You may want to ask one of the thousands who lost their shirts when they were taxed as much as 60% on their business.

EDIT: Just saw the last post, and agreed.

You could also consider WHY those taxes needed to be raised in the first place. :P And the answer is... ;)

I agree with Ironhidensh about the rephrasing of the question.

I think, that a lot of Americans aren't ready for it, true.

I do however, think that the majority of the Americans would be okay with it, but would be surprised if it happened. I also think there's a good chance that because of that last thing (surprise if it happened), they would not as easily spend their vote on someone they would like in office, but think he wouldn't make it to due to the racism of others, then if both candidates were white. :/

That said, I honestly don't care if it's Obama or Hillary Clinton in the white house. Thing is, with Hillary comes Bill and Bill has a LOT of connections with great political influence and there's a lot of goodwill towards him. Obama can't use that influence, Hillary would be able to use it.

Do you think it would hurt or help If say she was his running mate. or do you think there are too many people who blame Bill Clinton for Unemployement and would transfer those feelings to Hillary.

I don't believe ol' slick would even be able to run as a VP. I'll have to research it a bit more, but I believe that because if anything were to happen to Hillary, Bill woulddn't be able to take over as President. There may even be a couple of other factors as well.

BTW: I wouldn't judge Hillary for Bill, but she has her own reason for why I wouldn't vote for her.

Phategod, are you speaking of Bill or Obama?

If it's about Bill, I'm not sure if Bill and Hillary Clinton would have similar approaches to all subjects, though I'm sure either party would influence eachother.

Btw, they can't be vice president and president, seeing as those aren't usually allowed to be near eachother, due to the take over thing in case of catastrophe, right? Would be rather weird for a couple and I don't think either would want that - regardless if she still likes him for cheating on her.

If it's about Obama, I don't know either well enough. Hence why I don't care at this point.

PS: You newer bees to this forumsection realise I'm not American right? :)

I think it should be noted that Obama is half white.

I would like to see him run in 2012 he needs more experince and make his name more known. Hilary would be weird because
of her being a former First Lady and if she were to become President what would that make Bill the First Husband?

Honestly, I'd expect the biggest hurdle for a black presidential candidate would be the voter backlash from the unavoidable "OMG TEH BALCK MANZ IN VOETING TEIM, PORGESS AMAZONG!!1" reaction many people would have to it. People just don't like having that kind of thing rubbed in their faces.

Considering it's the 21st century, it's about time America has at least some sort of progression in the acceptance of it's leadership; either in the form of a woman or black president with a different set of views from the traditional bi-partisan christian view point (although I realize the latter is but a mere pipe dream, a third party presidential candidate at this point seems nigh impossible.)

Either way, a sad turn of events is that other countries are currently setting a better example for the world than us. Chile, a democratic republic's current president is a woman and a socialist!

If he does manage to be the primary candidate for presidency of the Democratic party, I will definitely vote for Obama.

No, I don't think we are.

But I can see him getting elected because of it just as easily as not getting elected because of it.

And honestly, I think that would be a good thing if he got elected on the basis of skin color, because it would stir up the mix a bit. It would be a landmark moment of history. Thurgood Marshall, Barak Obama. It would turn the tide for the future of a little more equality.

The same can be said about Hilary, but I'm not as familiar with her. I just think that the democrats don't stand a chance if she gets the ballot, since so many people hate her guts.

And yes, I know I'm perpetuating racial and sexist ideas by saying it would be good for them to be elected for that reason. But I truly believe a lot of people can't look past those things in issues like this. Hell, I'll admit it: I don't think I can either. I know logically it shouldn't make a difference, but I keep thinking, "damn a black or female president sure would stir things up". At least let some sort of progress come from it.

Of course, all that's moot if they're crappy presidents. But I like Barak's stances so far, meaning I haven't read anything about him yet that I don't like. Now if it was Condoleeza Rice running, I would still say "a black woman in the white house would REALLY stir things up," but I would not vote for her.

I intend to vote for Obama, but I might be registering as a Republican and voting for Hagel for the primary. You wanna talk about problem presidents, let's start with Brownback. :-x

Actually, let's not get started about him.

I don't know if America is ready for a black president or even a woman president, honestly skin color isn't an issue to me. The women on this site won't like me but females were not designed to handle such high powered positions based on their emotional natures. I would sooner vote for a black president than a woman president just for that reason- regardless of political party. Now it may turn out Hilary Clinton becomes a great president- who knows. I just wouldn't vote for her.

One could argue that men are not very well suited for positions of great responsibility (like that of national leader) due to their inability to care for others. It would also not be entirely correct.

Not voting for someone based entirely on their sex is, well, sexist. And anyway, the women who want to achieve positions of power tend to be more classically masculine than women who don't care for such things at all. Generally, individuals who aspire to power tend to have higher levels of testosterone than comparable individuals who don't aspire to power.

Actually, I seek power for the ends which it can attain, so I guess I'm clean there. :)

Just noting the distinction, since many a time people overlook that. It's the same with money-- only like what it can do, not as a substance in itself.

It didn't really. Nearly all people in the U.S. who are decended from slaves from Africa have some amount of European ancestry, even if it was from 250 years ago. Many, not most just many, Americans ,for reasons tied to slavery, think of being black has having any amount of African ancestry ,so the fact his mother is white wouldn't really matter to racists.

Though the fact that Obama is the son of a immigrant from Africa and a white American woman and therefore is not decended from slaves in the American South has been brought up several times. I have even seen a Black (decended from American slaves) woman on T.V. who insisted that Obama wasn't Black becuase he wasn't decended from American slaves. She did go on to say that she and her organization (I missed who she represented, though the show was the Cobert Report) supported him and that he had adopted the Black Culture ect for his own. Why she had to keep bringing up his backgroud I'm not sure.

Also I agree with Tammuz about people and power. Anyone who wants to be a career politition shouldn't be elected IMHO. You should run because there are things ,issues, areas ect that you care about and want to make a difference in.

Yeah, that woman on the Colbert Report, imo, is a racist. She sat there and tried to say that Obama is a good guy and stuff, but then she was all about how if he is elected President he isn't the first black President since his mother is white and that it doesn't count or something. It was like she was trying to make rules for it as though it is a game or something.

Even with the way Colbert is sarcastically conservative, with his satiristic ramblings, he seemed a lot saner than she is.

I will be voting for Obama, but not because of race or PC bull, but because of who he is, what he has done so far, and what his merits will accomplish as President.

I would like to know who you think he is, what you feel he has accomplished and what you think he will accomplish as President. I always hear people making claims as such but I never understand why. He may be likable, but is he the right guy for the job? I am not opposed to a candidate based on race, religion or creed, my only prerequisites are the qualifications. Which I'm not sure he has them, and Hillary is a natural born liar. I'd rather see Oprah run for President, at least I feel she is trustworthy and liked the worldwide.
