Not ashamed, or embarrassed. Not one bit.

The people who pick, criticize, etc etc...are the ones who have the problems.

If they can take time out of their piddling little lives long enough to critique your life over something as harmless as TransFormers or collecting...well then, they might want to rethink their priorities.

I miss those days...days of overprices Yamato Valks that break when you look at them, TF Takara re-issues at reasonable prices...but, seriously...where the heck do you put them?

As you know, space is at a premium there in lovely Japan...

Kampai! You just need to get away from Tokyo and Osaka and the space problem becomes much less. You get a decent sized apartment in Fukuoka or Kitakyshu for well under go mon or roku mon per month.

Fukuoka, btw, is about as close to paradise as I can imagine.

That is sweet. I will try to remember that the next time I am there...hopefully before I reach retirement age.

I've never been embarrassed about anything I buy. I've been on both sides of retail and I think it's completely ridiculous when people are embarrassed about their purchases.

Really...how old are you?

I'm 32. I have a career. I have a wife and two daughters. I own a house and have two dogs. I've lived enough and paid enough dues that getting embarrassed about buying toys isn't high up on my worry list anymore.

Money. Now THAT'S up on my worry list.

The last time I bought a Transformer was back in, oh, 1987/88. I didn't start again until I discovered the Classics line, and the Movie was in the works. I naturally figured that Hasbro will DEFENITELY make toys, and began looking for movie toys too. The Classics toys I bought on ebay, so it was no big. However, when I picked up Robovision and Leader Prime, it was rather embarassing. A 32 (I'm an old fart) year old in the toy aisle in Target, with 2 big Transformers in my hands. When I wanted Ratchet and Blackout, I said to myself "Screw it. I want these. I don't care what people think. I like 'em." Let those who mock me look at themselves in the mirror after they waited 18hours to 3 days in line to get their $600 iPhone.

Coming from Hong Kong, it seems that some places in Asia are far more accepting of people who buy toys for a hobby. I am also talking of Japan.

Ever since coming to the West to study people's interests here are either more restricted, or those who do have quirky or interesting hobbies don't share them unless asked.

You should still be playing with toys. You gotta watch how you post too. I didn't stop playing with toys till I was 14.

They all fall short in comparison. When people try to bust on me for having such a kiddie hobby, I just point out how much they spend on cigerettes or stereo equipment. In all honestly, I tell them I'd rather have an innocent hobby than something more adult like alcoholism or a drug addiction. Screw them.

I can say that I suffer from depression, and me being in this hobby makes me happy and keeps my mind off of things. I have no clue where I would be if I never had anything to keep my mind occupy (sp?).

Do they make them for a queen sized matress? No.
More importantly would my girlfriend sleep on them...?

She said no. :(

I have no shame.

I don't care what people think when I'm shopping in the toy aisle, and I sure as hell don't care if they know I'm buying for me and not some small child.

SHH! Don't say things like that. Then you get idiots trying to tear down what you said because they don't agree with your opinion.

I said the same thing in another thread (Alcoholism, drugs...) and they tried (keyword: tried) to tear me and my post apart about it. Of course I didn't listen much because all I heard was "blah blah, I'm right, you're wrong because I said so, blah blah, you're an insensitive asshole because you haven't lived with Alcoholic, blah blah" which was a bit of a piss off, but not worthy of getting a warning or a banning.

Sometimes, people just won't allow you to have your say, and to those who wish that, I say f*ck you.

And you're right, this "addiction" of collecting is far safer , hardly what I'd call "destructive" and it's lucrative in the long run.

Oh yes, collecting...it's "The Great Satan". 8-|

My girlfriend thinks it's cool. No one will call you geeky for having Slumblebee when your hot girlfriend is buying it for you.

My girlfriend's grandma heard how I was actually making money off my hobby by repairing or customizing toys and reselling them. She encouraged dropping this whole grad school thing and making a business of it. Also, she knows Michael Bay's family.

People I like find it cool.

Who cares what other people think?

i'm 26, and i felt a little bit of embarrassment when i got back into toy collecting, but the shame has quickly been over-ridden by the fun times with the hobby, and the comradery i've developed with other fans.

Actually, I have lived with alcoholics. I have a family history of it and my generation of relatives has its share of them and drug users. When I was sixteen, my cousin asked me why I still wasted time and money on comic books. I responded with at least I get to reread an issue later while he just rents the beer for the same price  My family just got used to it. My friends don't collect Transformers but don't judge me for it. My friend Justin only collects Street Fighter and McFar's NHL figures and John plays VS cards. I don't get either of them but we still hang. I just naturally avoid people who put me in harmful situations. Then there's Froy, he collects everything and because of it we realized one day we will fight to the death ;)
