Bob, Alex, why? Why did you lie to us? Maybe if you were truthful from the start maybe you wouldn't look so bad. I wouldn't have cared if you said the Decepticons wouldn't speak from the beginning. I wouldn't have cared if you said Starscream had one line in the film from the beginning. I wouldn't have cared if you said the leaked script was final from the beginning. But you lied to us.

You released that bloody press release telling us Devastator was called "Brawl." (strike one, "devastator is his confirmed name in the film) You told us you were constantly adding dialogue to the robots (Starscream has one line, the cons only speak once, and that's in subtitles).

We know, you were doing it to appease the fandom, and to secure the success of the film. But now, I feel two-timed. You told us you were making changes, but you didn't. You gave us false hope, and quite frankly I am pissed.

Come on guys, we were lied to. That doesn't mean the movie won't be good. But for the sake of bitching I'll say this. They **** up big time by not letting the Bots have more dialogue. It pains me to know that Starscream and Megatron don't bicker. I know they're saving that as a major plot point in the comming sequels.. But still! How can you not have that, Starscream's role is to kick ass on the battlefiled, and irratate Megatron to the point of insanity. I really thought we'd see more lines then this. Oh well.

Rich and soil in the same sentence. And it's not about plants. I commend you on that.

It makes sense, Megatron once said in the comics I believe, that he does not "...speak the language of the insects [humans]". So, that is logical.

But how the F*** is Hugo Weaving supposed to be a voice actor is their is no dialogue?!

I was starting to look forward to his version of Megatron.

Well, what is done, is done.

Can I ask a silly question? Where is all this information coming from? How do we know that the Decepticons don't say too many lines in the movie? How do we know that that the script did not change?

Honestly, of course the bad guys aren't going to talk that much.

The only time the bad-guys get lines, and this goes for the major villain usually,is when;

1. The villain is explaining his plan.
2. Making demands of someone.
3. Or doing the big final speech while he has the hero on the ropes during their fight.

Megatron should do all of those in the film.

The other cons are just lackies, expecting them to speak a whole bunch of lines, it just doesn't make any sense.

Okay, even if the information provided here is valid, and the 'Cons have no lines to speak of...it seems as though (and if Orci wants to confirm or deny this, that's fine, too :P ) it would be a decision on the studio's part more than the individual scriptwriters. Why?

Because why would you go and make the villains seem human?

The sad aspect to this "leaked story" is that, from a cultural standpoint, it is harder for (American) pop culture to embrace the idea of "villainy" as less an opposing philosophical viewpoint--shades of grey--and more a direct oppositional force in a binary system. Having our heroes fight foes with depth enough to explore their motivations, thoughts, and even emotions have a very real effect: the questioning of the heroes' own set of ideals as being right. Suddenly, the knight in shining armor isn't the courageous good to the dragon's vile evil...rather, the knight is a pompous, self-serving noble who needs to prove to the serfs that the intelligent, bashful dragon is a deadly threat, and must smite the creature at all costs.

(To its credit, Shrek did accomplish this sort of juxtaposition in the first movie...somewhat. If Farquad hadn't been so diminuitive, it'd be a stronger case.)

Now, throw in alien robot villains, and suddenly the argument against establishing the humanity of said characters explodes: why bother giving the ideological standpoint of the giant Killing-Thingies-o'-Death (TM) when they wish to destroy all humans, when you can have a cast of the most expendable villains possible without worrying about feeling guilty about their deaths? Sadly, this approach doesn't even originate with cinema, or with entertainment--one look at any war during the course of human civilization will vouch for that.

So I'd say cut the writers some slack. This is something of a greater cultural element here that no doubt would cause the people who make the most money off of the flick--the studio higher-ups--to step in and force such changes before the writers have even finished the first script.

You people are rediculous.

Do you know anything about how the movie process works?

I just got done putting together an independant film for a class. A lot of intended stuff had to be cut. A seven page script went through revisions and arguements. How about a 120 page script?

Nobody lied. Last time I checked Orci and Kurtzman weren't the directors or the studio execs. They're in no position to make promises, so if they do, you can't trust them.

If this movie is flawed, it was flawed from the start when the focus was put on humans instead of TF's.

But frankly I want a human centric movie because otherwise it would just turn into pseudo-fantasy bullshit AKA Lord of the Allsparks. In a human populated society, ignoring their reactions in favor of some crappy nerd robo fantasy plot is madness.

Damnit, Robinson, you beat me to it.

That aside, I do not want humans. We are "fleshlings" in the grand scheme of things to the TFs, well, the Decepticons, anyway.

I would love a TF film set on an alien world, i don't know, we might call it Cybertron, where the two factions duke it out in gurellia warfare.

I am not complaining about this film before it is even released.

But IMHO (My disclaimer), it is fantasy, and it is a TF-centric world.

There are wayyyyyy too many human-centric films, like, I dunno, almost every one made.

I want a different perspective.

Sure, I'll chime in for the fun.

I appreciate your coming to our defense because I can see it comes out of respect. It is, however, a backhanded compliment.

What you're talking about is creative decision, thank you very much. The studio doesn't have a magic eight ball of an equation of what this movie should be. That's why they hire screenwriters, so we can look into our magic eightball!

If you have complaints about the paradigm, you shouldn't blame the studio unfairly. It was our ball game.

You make good theoretical points, but it seems a bit early to be philosophizing. One can't quantify the emotional components until they are seen juxtaposed to the beat of the pace of the movie, in my late night opinion. :P
