All of those reviewers are comparing him to a 3rd party Devy and that is honestly unfair. He is no 3rd party masterpiece, but he is a quarter of the price and designed for people with smaller budgets and with kids. Give this guy his dues: He is pretty well engineered in combined mode and for the individuals too
I think it is fair to point out flaws, the quality of the plastic is important for such a huge figure, as baltmatrix found out - to his dismay. If it is brittle or possibly going to break it's their job to warn us of these things. Visually, he is devestator, there is no 3p that beats it at that. I personally haven't seen any reviewers compare him to a 3p product, they just talk about how g1 he is, and how he has no articulation.
At the same time, the big reason I am bugged is because they are not giving enough credit to engineering on an affordable scale. 3rd party companies spoil those who make reviews cause they can afford it, and because they have all these guys they really look down on a hastak product as inferior, which as it may be true, it is shooting for something and people very different in audience. every reviewer i have watched has also reviewed a 3rd party version and grades hastak stuff as such against it
While that is true, I think the plastic/engineering quality is something to be concerned about/interested in. Balts' scrappers' bucket arm snapped, and from what I've seen of everyone else, the plastic does seem super thin and brittle; now I realize that this yields a figure that is cheaper, and abnormally light and can thus hold many poses quite well, but what happens when it starts cracking from stress, or tight hinges? I've already seen that the ankle pivots are prone to breaking, scrappers bucket arm can break easily, and the shoulder joints seem to be prone to suffering from high amounts of stress.
I would take Baltmatrix reviews with a grain of salt. He's the only reviewer I've seen who consistently breaks his figures. The guy is seriously ham-fisted.
Not to say it's not something to look out for; just that I would watch other reviewers too to get a wider sense of peoples' experiences with the set.

Sure, the individual bots are brickish and cheapo, but they are also perfect G1 accurate too. And big. And fun. And finally, I'm not afraid to pose the Big Guy. He will not fall appart on my for any reasons.

It's ok, I agree with you. this guy is official and still well designed. yeah he is a bit cheap-looking, but he pulls off what is desired: playability. He's not super complex and accurate; just accurate enough and good looking enough to do what he needs to, which is transform convincingly. And he is very G1 accurate paint and transformation and looks wise, which is also really cool

At least the Transformations vary. The other combiner wars parts all use similar engineering and design

Why not go for both? I personally think that either Devastator will be a worthy investment for the future. If you plan to have Devy often in their individual bot modes, order the Takara version and keep the Hasbro one MISB. If you plan to mostly display Devy in combined mode, open Hasbro and keep Takara MISB.
Having the money, I wouldnt be able to wait and go for the second option.
Also, don't forget that the Takara one will cost at least 100$ more than the Hasbro version, if you consider the basic price difference, shipping, and possibly custom fees.

How does Anime Export compare to HLJ? Do you have to pay upfront when you preorder or do they wait and charge you after it comes in stock? And do they ship it out immediately and charge shipping with the purchase payment or do you get to wait and ship it later as a second shipping payment?megatronus wrote:I plan on getting both. I already ordered the Takara version from Anime Export for the exceedingly reasonable $145, and plan to pick up the Hasbro version when (if) it goes on sale.

-Kanrabat- wrote:I recently got the G1 version of Devastator. It make me appreciate the CW version even more because of how very, very close it is to the original G1 toy. Both in transformations, concepts, and looks.
That make Hasbro's CW Titant Devastator a TRUE MP figure in my mind. For a very, very reasonable price all things considered! However, I do wonder how a proper MP Devastator would look like and mostly, how HUUUUUUGE the thing would be at MP-10 scale.
D-Maximus_Prime wrote:I'm glad you like him. they do look very similar no?
-Kanrabat- wrote:D-Maximus_Prime wrote:I'm glad you like him. they do look very similar no?
Devastator is almost a 1:1 upscale! The only major differences are Mixmaster's vehicle mode and Longhaul's robot mode. Everything else is almost exactly like the original G1 toy, but way bigger! And waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy strudier.
Seriously, G1 Devastator is nice, but extremely fragile. With CW Devastator, I can go "PEW PEW PEW" with it without worry.

I guess it depends on what size MP Constructions would be? I find that the current ones scale very well with the MP car bots.
But I kinda agree. Devastator seems kinda MPish, where the individual bots definitely do not.

The individual bots were clearly an after thought. The primary goal was definitely Devastator himself.

Aside from Devastator himself, where are the individual Constructicons on that chart? All I can see are season 3 and Headmasters cartoon characters.
