Ghosts of Yesterday is the prequel novel to the movie.

I don't know exactly how they refroze him after he escaped, but they got him in containment after heavy losses.

Okay, I own Ghost of Yesterday.

In this book, Megatron wasn't moved from the Artic Circle until 1969, at which point there would be liquid nitrogen guns and cable shooting helicopters. At the point when Megatron began to thaw out, it was because the Russians were attempting to take the 'Iceman' from Sector 7. The truck that was carting the equipment used to keep Megatron frozen was damaged and he began to thaw out in the middle of a battle between KGB operatives and the Sector 7 transport team. It took an entire tank of anhydrous ammonia and liquid nitrogen to refreeze him before he could do any damage. I think it probably also helped that they hadn't completely left the Artic Circle yet when these events occurred Most of the casualties the book refers to were in the shoot out, not when Megatron woke up. I think the only people that he managed to kill were the techs monitoring the freezer truck.

In the movie, when Megatron thawed out, it was because of Frenzy mucking with the computers and Starscream destroying the power supplies to the system that was keeping him in stasis that no one could re-freeze him.

As for the feasability of reverse engineering technology from a frozen robot. It really isn't the strangest thing that sci-fi has come up with, heck, it's downright normal compared to some of the other stuff people have come up with.

And just to make a point, Jules Verne was writing about Submarines and Space Travel back in the 19th Century, decades before the former was even invented, and a full century before the latter. Thus the argument that science fiction concepts had not been in play at the time of Megatron's discovery in the Artic Circle is invalid.

That's just my two cents, anyways.

well. he is a ginormious killing machine. I theorize that though witwiki discovered Megatron he was not dug up till much much later. The sailors onboard were probibly more concerned for his health and left for the nearest settlement. Though nothing can be really certain, this movie has a lot of little plot holes for imagination to fill in :P

I think it's the speed of the reactions involved that render Megatron helplessly locked in stasis?

Of course, there were science fictions long ago. I specifically pointed out that there were no SCI-FI SPACE INVADERS, as in ALIENS from outer space.

Submarines, Space travel, Airplanes, and other sci-fi fictions of the olden times did exist.

How do the movie explain that the S7 guys were not aware of any danger from NBE-1, until Sam tried with some effort to convince them?

I think part of the reason the arctic ice affected him when space didn't is as follows: It's not just the ice, it's the water pressure.

Major temperature reversals can cause metal to break, and they seriously mess up anything electronic. I don't know if it'd be sudden (like getting hit in the face with a brick), or if it would be slow (like some kind of sedative or getting hosed), but if your brain's a computer and that happens to you, prepare for weirdness.

Search doesn't seem to work properly, but this topic seems to fit somewhat.
Do they really say that they dropped the Decepticons into the ocean because of the high pressure and extremely low temperatures?

I wouldn't call around 0°C extremely low temperatures.

0 Kalvin, about the equivalent of -273°C, the impossibly cold point when the lack of all energy shuts down everything on a subatomic level.

As the other poster kindly point out, there are quite some degrees below 0°C.
Not everything freeze at the freezing point of water (salt water freezes about 2° below 0°C).

In the movie as soon as the ice started melting he regained "consciousness" which would imply that he was not in stasis lock because of the impact but rather he was unconscious because of whatever freezing method they used. The same thing happened with Bumblebee and S7, they sprayed him down and he was immobilized.

War of the Worlds was published in 1898 and wasn't even the earliest alien invasion story in popular literature. There were also sensationalized stories of alien flying machines printed in the papers from time to time throughout the 2nd half of the 1800's.

I wonder if the technology they said they got off of Megatron mostly refers to recent technology (cell phones, computers, whatever) and not the older technology.

Again, for what it's worth - The leaked script made mention of every modern technology (including cars!!!) being "Reverse-engineered" from him. I have no idea how you'd get the concept of a gasoline combustion engine from an alien robot, but it's in there.

It makes about as much sense as using carbon-14 dating to pinpoint when a being and cube composed of alien metals of unknown composition landed on Earth, Airforce-1's having access to secret military databases, or a high-profile engineering project with thousands of civilian employees building a top-secret facility around an alien artifact.

If you spend any time at all thinking about it, absolutely nothing about the film or novel's plot makes any plausible sense; even the stuff that easily should.

I read somewhere that War of the Worlds came out in the 50's. Maybe i got the wrong info.

But still, the ideas during those times can be of alien ships or aliens driving a robot.

But not that of an alien robot having a life of its own.

They could not have imagined NBE-1 was alive, until when he actually woke up.

That had me thinking, everything that the allspark brought to life turned evil and the official explanation was because they were reverse engineered from megatron. There is a problem with that, it would appear that it is the technology used to make megatron what makes him evil, if the same technology is used in other objects and they turn out evil as well. I was under the impression that the allspark created sentient beings capable of independent thought and free will, free to choose their own path ... like Optimus did, like Megatron did and like every other Transformer
