Man, you guys are ridiculous.
The MP line is the BEST thing to happen to Transformers, since they first debuted.
They are all the most-detailed, best-designed, and most-accurate TRANSFORMING versions of the G1 characters to ever hit mass market.
I think they're amazing. I can't wait for MP Grimlock, if it's true.
Each one has had it's own focus in its design, to make it the best overall version of itself to date.
Prime was focused on to make it the best animated form in robot mode, and while people bitched about the vehicle mode, I still swear up and down it's pretty damned good for a truck that turns into THAT awesome of a cartoon-accurate robot mode. Sure, it's not accurate to a Freightliner, but it's easily recognizable as a truck. Who leaves MP Prime in truck-mode long anyways? I sure as hell don't.
Starscream, while the first color choice WAS bad, was designed to be a more accurate jet, which I have no problem with. Other than his size (I wish he was bigger) and original color (The Hasbro cartoon-accurate color was much better, although I think the Takara version was painted with better detail), I think the mold is pretty good. I still prefer the original design without the hip "scabbards" hanging off, but it's still better than any Starscream/Seeker mold. EVER. It also makes sense, as they can squeeze at LEAST 2 repaints out of it, if not a retool as the Coneheads. And, if I'm not mistaken, I think the Starscream MP was supposed to originally be a jet version scaled to the Alternators, but got canned and tucked into the MP line instead? I could be wrong, so many goofy rumours on these boards.
Megatron is 100% pure awesome. I think they wanted to make the original 80's toy "right", but transform so that he looked a lot closer to his cartoon version. I love him, despite his shortcomings. Sure, his legs are fragile and a bit thin, and the cannon is gigantic, and his head may not be "ideal" to each and every fanboy's dream, and "OH NO", he's missing the stock (which JustiToys recreated and fixed the standing/leg weight issue too, and it works fine for me to buy that since Hasbro/Takara dropped the ball). So, not 100% cartoon accurate. Not 100% realistic — the gun's too big, so what... We would have heard more bitching if he didn't fit in scale with Prime, admit it.
I think they're still defining what this line is, and I have no problem with that. Each release seems to focus on a different goal, yet they all end up pretty freaking awesome. I don't think we can clarify a pattern yet, although...
I'm pretty sure Grimlock will fall closer to MP Megatron's/Prime's design direction than Starscream. Let's face it, the original T-Rex is NOT accurate to how a real T-Rex stands/is built/etc. I don't want a realistic T-Rex robot, like say from Jurassic Park. I want Grimlock, in all his 80s badass bulkiness, dragging tail and all. Take the original toy, and make it "better", is what I expect out of them. And make it cartoon-accurate as much as possible. Whether it's closer to the G1 toy or cartoon in it's focus, I expect to be amazed by whatever they throw at us.
