How awesome is it when The Rock goes Buck wild swinging around a tree inside a casino? It's great! Not Bubba-Ho-Tep great but still great. It's hard to beat out Elvis and a Black JFK fighting a mummy though, so thats not really a fair comparison. That Bruce Cambell, heh.

I think you've pretty much decided what I'll be watching tonight.

Transformers was my first real childhood thing, one that I chose and accepted gladly rather than it being given to me because I'm of that age and a boy. I used to get up at 6am for TVAM just to watch Transformers, staying in and reading the wet break box of comics because it had Transformers, designing an Optimus Prime bin, and so on. My family were not rich so I only had a few Transformers over the years, until Micromasters and my earning of pocket money, so each toy symbolised a significant event in my life, birth, Christmas, etc.

So in a way I've always taken Transformers in about 75% seriously and 25% camp measures, probably based on the fact it was my almost religion and dream as a child. Heck even rediscovering the animated movie 11 years ago and beginning to collect again was a lovely point in my life as well. That is why I will always love R.I.D. and Armada.

I even lay experimented with A.I. trying to mimic G1 personalities.

So when the first film came out, and I got to watch it I almost did a sex wee, because that film seemed to epitomise the 75% Serious 25% Camp I had always viewed it in and when I watched the second film I felt like awful things had been wedged into that ratio or even inverting it. When I gave RotF it's second and third chances I'll admit it got the ratio better each time, but I still found it lacking.

Joe I've always viewed as 75% camp and 25% serious, apart from Resolute, which successfully inverted that ratio, so for me the film is a success, as it were, because it wonderfully hits the golden ratio of 75% camp to 25% serious.

While i can appreciate your feeling for TF and how you saw them when you were younger, the fact still remains that TF is just as much Camp as GI JOE or any other 80's cartoon. The fact that you connected with it more than the average person means nothing in the sense of how serious you felt it was/wasn't.
As a kid, I liked both TF and GI JOE. Though i have to say i probably liked GIJOE more. I, like you, used to get up at the crack of dawn to watch the cartoon. You'd have to literally drag me out of bed at 7:00am for school, but Saturday mornings i had no problems getting up at 6:00am to watch the Joe's. I collected Joe's up until probably the early/mid 90's when it was no longer cool to play/collect big plastic trucks and figures. After that never got back into Joes. Mainly cause the figures/toy designs didn't grab me the way they did when i was a kid. For me, TF has. The movie got me back into the hobby and is responsible for me typing this right now. IN all, i recognise both as being camp, because, well..They were. Both had cheesy dialogue, stories, and no one died no matter how many lasers were fired.
So while i understand where your coming from, its not really fair to praise one for being cheese, and criticize the other for being the same. Especially after admitting it was a fun movie.

What about six ways Tranformers could beat G.I, or could be just as bad as G.I Joe.


I saw G.I Joe and it was sh...yeah.

It had a crapper story then TF2, Graphics weren't up to scratch, the scripts were clearly rushed, epic fail.

But then, I still haven't worked out TF2's story yet, and the jokes weren't as funny as G.I Joe, so I say they both failed in different areas.

My Rant was even harder to understand than TF2's plot anyway!:lol:
