Big powered arrived today, one of the things I'm really happy with is Dias slide out hands (if they could have rotated even better) which is something Siege figures and others could do with reverting back to so it leaves no hollow arm gaps. 80's features on a modern toy

Telescoping parts are actually one of my pet peeves, as the catches have worn out on my G1 toys.

nope, you can easily have flaps that open to flip the hand out and then cover any hole.

So now that the dust has settled what is the final verdict on Legends God Ginrai? While I try to stick to my one-figure-per-character rule ever since I ended up getting Siege Optimus and Megatron but kept the TR ones, the truth is I don't exactly count Ginrai as being Optimus Prime. There is also the fact I've got Overlord and he (he/she or them in Japanese lore, being a duo of Godmasters!) could use his rival. However I have no experience with the CW Magnus/TR Powermaster Prime mold and I keep hearing how Ginrai suffers from his stubby feet and poopy ankles.

So is he worth it or would he only be truly 'worth it' if I somehow managed to miraculously hunt down his Perfect Effect upgrade sets? He certainly appeal to me visually and I'd love to have him in the collection, displayed next to Optimus, Hot Rod/Rodimus, Dai Atlas and Optimal Optimus as the respective 'faction leader' of their era. But if he's waaaay too fragile and wonky it might not be worth it.

I do not know about the combined boxset, but the regular release (both hasbro and takara's) is too fragile and wonky. I absolutely hate that toy. Both the godbomber and ginrai elements are weak and together they are super weak.

I have to agree. Super Ginrai is a remold of a remold and it shows. God Bomber had one thing to do and it failed, there's a reason the original toy was a brick.

Yeeeah that seems to be a common problem people have with God Ginrai. I'd probably be better off with an Hasbro PMOP off ebay, huh? >:oP

Personally, I think he's much better built and looks really cool. Plus, the inner head is more original and unique. My only issue with him is the brownish grey plastic they use, it just doesn't look great (feels fine though).

I actually like God Ginrai quite a bit, but I'm a huge sucker for Optimus combiners so it isn't surprising and I'm probably not the best person to ask. I ended up with both of Takara Tomy's versions (plus the individual God Bomber) and Hasbro's box set version so I have all three uses of the Super Ginrai mold. Ironically I don't have either of Hasbro's PM Prime versions of the mold.

But without my personal bias, I agree with Ironhidensh. If you're looking for a toy to play with God Ginrai is very top heavy and not great for playing with since there's a bunch of parts that like to fall off or come loose when moving him around. As a figure to put on the shelf or photograph he's a great figure in that respect. The Legends box set version is the superior one thanks the clear windows, chrome, and improved heel spurs to make it harder for him to fall over backwards, plus bonus Headmaster Juniors.

Well I understand not every figure is something fun to fiddle with and I don't expect Ginrai to be that kind of figure.

Sure, but I personally think he is the opposite of fun when it comes to handling.

I got the Legends God Ginrai boxed set and while I don't hate the set, I don't love it either.

I also fully embraced the whole Triplemaster thing that Sakamoto wrote up for Ginrai by sticking a little translucent figurine of some dinosaur-man-thing (that I got with a KO of BW TM2 Megatron years ago, I have no idea what the little figure itself is really supposed to be) inside Super Ginrai's chest cavity to be his Getmaster while his head serves as his Headmaster and his molded-in Iacon Engine makes him also Godmaster.

And since I had two of these little dino figurines (I got a second one that came with a green-colored KO of BW TM2 Megatron), I decided to stick the other one inside of Primitive Skateboarding Optimus Prime to be his own Getmaster as well.

So now both of them have little glow-in-the-dark dinosaur people inside their chests.

I also do still have the Commemorative Series PMOP w/ Apex Armor reissue of the 1988 God Ginrai (elongated missiles and all), and while it is a big, towering brick, it sure is a pretty and more stable brick.

I prefer the G1 toy,but its a hard call on any of the Powermaster primes as they all have flaws and not a single one of them is or ever will be perfect no matter the add ons.

Hasbro TR PM Prime
negatives chest, hands, cant combine
positives feet?

Hasbro box set
negatives feet, arm flaps
positives other figures in box set, hands, combines,

Legends
negatives feet?, arm flaps.
positives cthru windows (that get covered up in combined mode, combines, god bombers own robot mode

Stability aside I think just tracking down some G1 power master prime shoulder guns improves the figures look, when on the hasbro one it looks good enough (they might be comically oversized to other peeps but hey). If you have multiples then switching legends cab can be done to give hasbro a better chest (or use god bomber on the hasbro box set combiner with out clear windows) then there is not much need for the Perfect effect add ons/ginrai tho hes my favorite convoy in that scale at the mo and he doesnt get used as a chest piece). the perfect effect chest piece doesnt quite work/sit flush with the hasbro torso but I prefer it looking a bit funny/bulky/paratrooperesque? to his orig chest piece.

I used *Magnus Prime* from the TR Siege set, and the individual release Legends God Bomber to create my God Ginrai. It actually works quite well. I haven't problems with extra loose bits or floppy parts. I'm really glad I have it. I don't know if I'm just fortunate or what. I got one of the last available LG42's from BBTS, so I don't know if its a matter of getting later run toys that have fixes, or truly a case of YMMV.

I'm pretty sure it YMMV. I also went the Magnus Prime and LG42 route, and I also got one of the later LG42's from BBTS. Most of it is pretty solid except the damn blue arm panels from Godbomber never want to stay attached to Godbomber himself. They are fine for combining with Ginrai, but the combined mode just doesn't like standing too much on mine.

I'm using Magnus Prime with Godbomber. They are a pretty nice set in alternate modes, but Godbomber is definitely a bit weak and weird in robot mode. Combined mode is a spectacle though, despite being a bit finnicky in posing. the only real issue I have with him is a slight backwards lean and the sword hilt is a bit too small for the hand to hold securely

I've been tempted a few times to grab Godbomber, but the regular negative reviews have turned me away, along with the premium Takara price. The God Ginrai set doesn't work either since I already have a Magnus Prime... ah well

Big Powered arrived the other day and I got around to opening it up today and having a bit of a squiz.

A part of me is disappointed because each one felt "cheap" to me.

Road Fire is easily the best of the three. Good solid figure.

Dai Atlas is a good figure, but I wasn't able to get the hips to lock in properly.

Sonic Bomber is a nice enough figure, but let down by the "feet". Ball joint that really does nothing?

I find I line the bar up then slam it down quickly it locks in well.

I feel I've failed you all as your hero and role model by not mentioning this, the Kabaya kits make for a great God Ginrai and if the price drops to $50 or below then Legends Godbomber is worth it.
