You should look up Alicia Alonso before you critic female dancers dancing at old age. She was a prima ballerina at the age of 70, while legally blind.

There's also a difference between someone dancing and playing a guitar.

You also missed a bunch of genres. But if you really don't like popular music, try listening to your local underground scene, or just the underground scene in general. Or, if you're really bored, try J-Pop.

You know, I see a lot of people bagging Lady Gaga, and i'm not ashamed to admit that i'm a fan of hers.

And in her defense, she writes her stuff. Most of what the "pop" stars sing these days are written by others. Weird fashion sense aside, the girl definitely has talent.

There's still some good rock stuff out there, yeah it's changed over the last two decades (and is NOTHING like "rock n roll") but thanks to http://www.newrock933.com/ i've discovered stuff like Mudvayne, Distrubed, Drowning Pool and Skillet but i'm also into Godsmack, Daughtry, Theory of a Deadman, Switchfoot, Staind, Saliva, and tragically, Nickelback.

One thing i've noticed though, the older you get, the harder it is to like modern music.

P.S. Orianthi (was to play guitar for Michael Jackson) is pure **** Australian-bred awesome. 8)

Ah Nickelback. The band locals love to hate and hate to love.

12 years back I was running a mailroom in downtown Vancouver, and one of the girls working there would go to the Roxy (local bar) because she loved the houseband, and kept saying they would be big.

She was right and was one of Nickelback's original groupies.

Was her name Kim and the first girl that Chad Kroeger kissed when he was so nervous that he nearly missed? She's had a couple of kids since then but he hasn't seen her since god knows when.

Or maybe she had her eyes on the prize as the girl next door who rocks it like the naughty wicked witch of the west?

Perhaps the hottie with the million dollar body that's over budget but you'd pay her just to touch it?

Would her mother be pissed if she could see the parts that Chad Kroeger had kissed?

Or is she the sort of girl Chad likes with her pants around her feet, the dirt upon her knees, and likes the way she says please while she's looking up at him?

Say what you want about Nickelback, they sure have some lyrics that could almost rile up women's rights groups.

Luckily I am pretty sure she didn't get close enough to be the inspiration for any songs. While she was big on them, she wasn't the best option they would have had available.......

I once went to Nickelback gig at LOWLANDS in the Netherlands.

Chad start over singing their song "This is the way how you remind" 4 times over. After the fourth time he replied "I'm so wasted from the weed i don't remember the lyrics anymore... Holland rulles!!

nickel-back.... haha.

Tennis is fun. Nadal beat Federer again I know very cool. I like the way Nadal plays, but I wonder how he would fair if he used an 18x20 racket and not his 16x20. I enjoy the control over the spin. Besides I bring my own power. I think Federer is saving up his energy for the grand slams and not the little tournaments, well little for them anyways. Thank you sir.

I used to be a fan of most of the alternative scene, but as I've gotten older, I've replaced listening to a lot of different bands with relatively small back catalogues with listening to a few bands with huge back catalogues. Most of these bands are from 90s to current day Prog Rock (Opeth, Tool, Ayreon, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre (to a lesser extent), and of course I listen to the ultimate Prog band, Pink Floyd (I have every single studio album, every single (official) compilation album and all but one of the (official) live albums (the one I'm missing I have a copy of though). That's nearly 24 hours of music on it's own. (With all the bonus disks and live albums and EPs Porcupine Tree have done, they aren't far behind the 24 hour mark too.)

It seems anyone can become rich and famous haha. look at lady gaga, beyonce, britney spears, lets see them dancing at 80, as opposed to Les Paul who was still making music and playing live shows before he passed.
hip-hop=club music and people who want to place overly exaggerated speakers in their car because they think its cool to lose their hearing at a young age, and cause children to wear ridiculously large clothes that make them look like giant billboards advertising their brand names hahaha.

RAP=Retarded Attempt at Poetry. Originally it was an underground movement sticking it to the man. Nowadays its about people wanting to say "hey I have money, drugs, and I have been in the slammer give me more money"

Rock=has become...I can't think of anything anymore. The talent has just drifted with ups and its downs and its' constant down at the moment. What passes for radio play nowadays is a little saddening for those stations that promote "pop-rock" the bands do not even aim to make a statement for the better or say things that make people think anymore. Its more or less "what catchy rhythm can they produce to make as much money as possible."

LOL what happened to the good ol' days. Gone.

Personally I am a musician, and we are working very hard to bring the music back into "music". Well be making a statement soon enough and as soon as everything is up and running ill post the site for you guys and you can be the judge of it and tell us whether we suck or if were doing ok.
Who and you, and what have you done with the {n00b} bot?

From an Australian perspective they tend to get mentioned every day. Mostly it's "BP still hasn't fully capped the leak".

So I wouldn't say they get raked over the coals, but they're certaintly not spoken highly of.

Every time the oil leak is mentioned, they are too. They are one and the same thing as far as the news is concerned (as broadcast by the BBC or printed by The Times, for that is what I watch/listen to/read). I wouldn't say it's being given more importance than any other news items though.

Frankly, the election is *still* the biggest news in town. Now don't get me wrong, I have found this election very interesting, even when everybody was staring at a door waiting for news to happen, but since the coalition officlally formed, every paper and news broadcast has either led with "We have a coalition, but nothing interesting is happening." or "Wouldn't it be interesting if the two parties started bickering (even though they're not), here's what they might bicker about (even though they're not)."...

And this 'news' is deemed pressing enough to be of more interest than the whole oil leakage thing (well I suppose it *is* happening to the Americans, who cares about them, they'd only bomb someone if they weren't kept busy by this stuff! :P).

and for no bloody reason at all are my thoughts on both the spill and the turnover of 10 Downing Street

BLACK OIL GULF 2010

Anyone surprised when Haliburton's name was connected to this disaster? anyone... anyone...

Nobody should be shocked that this has happened, and honestly as sad as it is, all you half to do is look at how many Republican cronies whose war chests are helped stocked by Big Oil, defending this practice of drilling. They care about the long term environmental impact by what they've done as much as Tobacco companies due about the health of people who buy their products. In which to say if they honestly were more concerned in doing what they discuss in developing "green" technology rather than putting their profit margin as their bottom line years ago, we would be in a much better position to not have to worry about events like this because the catalyst would not be off shore drilling direct tunnels for oil to spill into the oceans.

I'm not trying to sound like a hippie or doomsday predictor, I'm just a regular guy who has heard all the crap and not seen enough done to change things because to many people in the seats of power who can make the changes that are needed are more concerned with maintaining their power, income, or both.

It's a horrible situation, but it won't change until the people truly stand against it, and we all know the current status quo of the first word countries isn't about to change anytime soon.

PLEASE MUM, CAN I BE PRIME MINISTER?

I had zero stake in the election seeing while I retain British citizenship, I'm not on any voting lists beyond Canada or leadership of local Anime Conventions. But due to how close it could be, I had a window to the BBC election results page going while the results were coming in. And as they did I despaired.

Not for a Tory or coalition win, but because I hope the country of my birth doesn't follow the same situation the country I live in has lived with the past decade or so.

Canada has lived with a Minority Conservative government thru 3 elections now, and almost more if it had not been for the New Democrats or the Bloc Quebecois voting with them on a few critical times. If Americans think it's bad when you only have two parties and people fall into the "well, I didn't vote for him" you don't know the half of it.

The British Parliament is now only as strong as the Liberal Democrats are prepared to make it. and if there is any chance another election could be called where the LD's feel they would make out winning more seats.... well we will see how strong this coalition truly is.

To put it simple, some people are here to make money, some are here to make a difference, and some people fall in between the cracks and just follows the crowd. Which one are you? Hell, I know what I am trying to do.

As for the oil spill, pretty soon the currents are going to take it to the Florida coast and so on and so forth. All the hair donated trying to absorb it, was not enough hair. Last thursday the amount of oil that has popped out is at 2.2 million gallons. There is oil on the surface, there are clouds of oil between the surface and the ocean floor that is miles wide and hundreds of feet thick. They can't fish, they can't go out on boat, blobs of tar are starting to show up on the shores, and its starting to cake on the surface too. What else would you like to know?

BP KNEW that the rig's piping system was at fault and the people on the rig knew this and advised to fix it. I guess BP wishes they would have gotten to it sooner NOW HUH? sheesh way to put things off!!!

All too true, brother... This whole oil spill business is making me sick. Not only the enormous damage that it's doing, but also the knowledge that there are executives who are responsible that are laying the blame elsewhere, executives who have delayed enforcing safety regulations, executives who are still saying "the effects of the spill will be minor", executives who are still 'earning' (and I use the word very loosely) millions of dollars even though they are totally culpable for this disaster and executives who will still not take necessary measures to stop something like this from ever happening again.

Anyway, back on topic: Faith No More: one of the coolest bands ever. I've seen them live five times: first time supporting Guns 'n' Roses and four more of their own shows.
Actually, I've seen Coldplay three times live as well, all three times when they were still great unknowns and the stage they were playing on was still only 2 feet high. They were nice guys, back then, and you could have a banter with them on stage.
Man, when I was at college, I used to visit live shows about twice a week: big bands in small venues... Nowadays, every shmuck with a guitar and half a tune thinks he should be playing in stadiums and selling $100 + tickets... The Ticketmaster empire hasn't made it any easier to see bands.
I'm so meta, even this acronym...
