The Coming Storm. A Philosophical Question
The Coming Storm. A Philosophical Question
Posted by Senor Hugo Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:00 pm
I'd like to remain hopeful that it'll be alright, that I'm just paranoid, but this time, I think something huge is coming.
So, we know it's leading up to something big, it always does. We can see the storm looming on the horizon, we can feel it. So what do we do? What will the storm bring? The people who put stock into 2012 have a few theories, that a change is coming, that the world as we know it will be changed.
In the last few days I've personally experienced and seen crap that puts no doubt in my head that there is something above, below, and a whole lot of nasty little bastards in between.
So what can we do? Do we buckle-down and hope to ride out the storm? Do we try to inform those who are in their own little happy world? Do we do nothing? Or do we wait till the **** hits the fan and deal with the aftermath?

So I say, do what you do, respect your neighbor, and enjoy it while you can.
Just keep in mind the profits always claim doom is upon us, but your probably still gonna have to go to work tomorrow!

And don't forget to pay your taxes or doom will come!
So yes, I agree with Liege, they have been saying doom for thousands of years in one form or another and if it comes from a hydrogen bomb or an asteroid from outer space or a plague that wipes out most of humanity or an alien invasion honestly what can you do but try and survive it ? you can't really prepare for most of those scenarios or at least a plan for the long run as you can only buy and keep so much food on hand and if you had a cavern big enough to fit all that food and water in it will go bad in the meantime before the impending doom so you keep replacing that food and water...I hope you see my point...this is exactly the type of fear and paranoia they want a lot of us to live in so live life one day at a time, go to work,go to school, have some fun from time to time, always be aware of your surroundings yes by all means for personal safety but this global doom philosophy will only further your own "paranoia" as you describe it.

But that's nothing.
People seem to think that the sun will go into some crazy magnetic shift right on, get ready for this one, it really is a logic stretch of amazing proportions:
The solstice on Earth which is nothing more than a calendar date we invented, and a planetary tilt that can't possibly have any effect on the f'ing sun significant enough to change its magnetism, especially since the planet has been tilting that way for billions of years already.
In other words, it is completely stupid to say the sun will do some magnetic shift that will throw off life on Earth, right on the Earth's solstice. It's more ludicrous than the whole Y2K crap (which I didn't believe in long before it happened, I assure you, I am not speaking from hindsight).
Now that doesn't mean that, coincidentally, we don't destroy each other in 2012. It's a reasonable time frame, the way things are going.
Hugo, I agree with you. Something bad is going to happen. I think I might just high-tail it to New Zealand in a few years. Either that, or I'll go right into the heart of a metropolitan area and just sit right at ground zero for the bomb.

Life is too short to worry about 2012 or some future junk. You gotta live like there's no tomorrow, get as many speeding tickets as you can, and pray to whichever god you choose life will go all right.

So when I say the end of the world as we know it, I don't mean fire and brimstone.
Our world changed dramatically after Sept 11th, and in the grand scheme of things, that was a small event. So what are we going to get next? The fall of America, world war 3, a one world government?

Almost went awol when you said "small", but you put that in.
Anyhoo, the closest thing I see coming is WWIII.
But I doubt that bombs will end it. I don't think it'll be war (if it happens) in the traditional sense.
And if anything does go wrong, all I need is my car and money.

Im a Marine. In the Marines they teach you to look past the norm. To see everything, the small details, that that normally gets ignored. He was in a work van, He hit a column that supported the bridge he was under. A large column as wide as the van. There was melting snow in the mud that lead up to that column. Normally, when someone slams their brakes it causes a ditch like track mark, dug deep since the mud was so soft. There was no such mark. Just tire tracks barely noticeable. That means he hit the column at full speed. The airbag had deployed but it didnt matter, it looks as though the engine of the van was in the rear of it now. The front looked like crumpled tin foil. The windshield must have imploded on him cause there was no broken glass anywhere. Some people ran to help him as I drove slowly by, but I knew he was dead.
Tuesday, March 25th was the end of the world for this man. I don't know his name, dont know if he had a family or whatever, all I know is he lost his life today.
We are in the midst of great times Hugo. Greater than most people care to imagine. It is now when you must look past what you see, and really see what you need to.
No man knows the hour.

I was hoping no one would catch either of those...
Fine.
All I need is my car.
I don't care if it doesn't move.
Cars don't yell, talk back (although it seems that way sometimes), listen to me, do what I want (if you know how to get it).
I'd honestly just keep my car over another person if I had the choice.
Not to sound antisocial, but it's true.

As far as the whole 2012 theory, I won't buy it til it happens....yet another date pulled from thin air and man's weak science. I have never been one to buy into such far-out theories...was never my gig.
And, best thing to remember...those that can roll with the changes, especially the catastrophic kind, are the ones that will survive.

Willing to bet tomorrow is gonna be the same!
Still, every generation with all it's problems believed it lived in the end of days. If you look at the past 150 years or even more, things have been alot worse than they are now. Not to say we don't have our issues...
So I in general defer to my initial post. Do right by you, do right by the one next to you, and you'll be alright when these mortal coils unbind.

Doesn't matter.
Do you honestly believe that the sun will go into a magnetic pole shift and f up life on Earth right on the solstice? The solstice on Earth has nothing to do with what the sun is doing. Also, the sun shifts it's poles all the time I think.
The theory is wrong and stupid.
Now that doesn't mean that 2012 can't be a year of huge change for humanity, but if it is, it will be from our actions, not from anything the sun does.
I want to see scientific data suggesting a magnetic upset in the sun, from people who are actually studying the sun. Not a bunch of hippies and long dead Mayans.

Like I said before "The Mayan's werent the only ones to predict that something big is going to happen in 2012" I never said that the other that predicted a world changing event would be the same world changing event that the Mayan's predicted.
Also the Mayan prediction was much more about a cosmic event then it was about a magnetic upset.
December 21st 2012's December Solstices is also the day that the sun itself will be lineing up with the center of our Milky way galaxy....this event only happens once every 26 thousand years.
Heres a vid on it from the history channel.
http://www.livevideo.com/video/Paranorm ... -deco.aspx
Now I'm not saying that this proves anything but the prediction was much more then something about a "magnetic pole shift" that happens all the time.

Urm, I think I read somewhere the Mayan's said the world would end with huge earthquakes, and jaguars falling from the sky? So yeah, heads up in 2012
The Earth's magentic poles flip every so often anyway, what's the deal with the Sun's magnetic thing, if it happens every 26 thousand years it's hardly going to end the world this time round is it? Might screw up some technology if the poles change, but the Mayans did not know that did they?
They noticed that something was happening on that date, and decided the world would end on it. What's the big deal? I dont go around expecting Armagedon or Ragnarok to happen next week because there is no set date for them.

Anyhoo, back on topic. I don't care who says what about 2012 or 3012. Right now we have issues much more important than some predictions which have been proven wrong time and time again.
