Yes, the manga wasn't too kind to most of the villains. I think what Naoko was going for was a preferred development of the protagonists over the antagonists.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:I've read the manga, yes. I... like the anime better. The villains in the manga are blink and you'll miss it! No way Nephrite gets his arc there. I also liked the monsters of the day-go figure.
Glad to here that you're okay with him. Lately, I've been coming across others who claim just the opposite. I've even encountered those who seriously hate him with a passion. And they also highly prefer Seiya or Prince Demand, or anyone, just as long as Mamoru is not with Usagi.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Mamoru? I liked him. Kinda take or leave, but he's a good guy. Got the almost obligatory tragic past going.

Most of these people either find him "dreamy" or refer to how he was protrayed in the anime after he finally believed Sailor Moon when she convinced him that Wiseman was using and deceiving him, and how he tried to protect her from Wiseman during that moment. But for me, I don't care for him much. The only time I really liked the guy was when Saphir was accused of treachery he tried to here Saphir's side of the story... only for Wiseman to instantly kill Saphir and then Demand then cried out his brother's name and then carried away his body in his arms. But other than that, Prince Demand was just... decent.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Demand... the guy who tries to rape/kill/mind**** her...

1. Who here has read the manga? What is your opinion of it? How would you compare it to the anime, or even PGSM? If you haven't read it, would you like to?
2. What is your opinion on the character of Mamoru Chiba? Do you like him? Dislike him? Think he's okay? What do you think of him?

And this one just one of the many reasons why I prefer the Yume arc of the manga over the SuperS anime. While SuperS put most oft he spotlight on Chibiusa, the Yume arc centered around her, Usagi, and Mamoru. The Dead Moon Circus was treated as though they were his enemies of the past, threatening his former kingdom, as well as focusing more on his illness that wasseemingly glossed over in the anime, not appearing to happen until the end of the series. Not to mention the fact that the Golden Crystal, which became his crystalin the manga, did not follow the same suit in the anime and had Chibiusa be the one to use it.Editor wrote:2) Tuxedo Kamen Sama. I liked Mamo-chan, I just feel that by Supers, he was just treated like an extra, and I was really disappointed by his treatment in Stars.

I couldn't read the Mixx/Tokyopop manga because I couldn't bear reading the dub names or the countless mistakes they made with it.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:I feel sorry for you having to read the Mixx version.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:All of it, but it has been a while since I've done a complete readthrough. ha, ha.I didn't mind it. I believe so, yes. I read... some of them, at least.

The ten sidestories are
- 4 of Chibiusa's Picture Diary
- 3 Exam Battle Chapters
- Lover of Princess Kaguya
- Casablance Memory
- Parallel Sailor Moon

Kodansha USA has announced their release of the 2003 reprint editions of the Sailor Moon manga! In addtion to this is the first-ever American release of the Codename: Sailor V manga! That's right! Sailor Moon is BACK in the U.S. (no word on the anime yet, though)!
That is exactly what I'm hoping for.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon returns to America!!!!

Any chance of it staying in the original Japanese format (no flipping!) and using the original Japanese names instead of like "Serena", "Rini" or even "Bunny"?

Thinking about it more, since this is the first time Sailor V is being officially released in English and never had any dub counterpart, chances are that it's translation will be a faithful one and the same could be said for this new rerelease of the Sailor Moon manga.
And if the manga gets a faithful retranslation, then I'd say there's nothing to stop them from giving the anime the same treatment should it return here as well.
I'm just hoping for as few changes as possible. The old dubs by DiC and Cloverway were terrible.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:I'll be tickled pink if they kept these:
- The original Japanese names
- Their original genders. Zoisite and Fish Eye were both actually effeminate males
- Transliterations that can result in puns. The Amazoness Quartet for instance: CereCere (Ceres), PallaPalla (Pallas), JunJun (Juno) and VesVes (Vesta)
- And for the anime: the original kind of relationships! Haruka and Michiru come to mind.

30 pages in and it's only now weird?JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:I just realised I'm discussing Sailor Moon, on a Transformers forum with a fellow fan. How weird is that?![]()
I think the one dub that was actually worse than the English dub was the Korean dub.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:What I think is the most faithful of dubs is the German one: only name changes (Usagi to "Bunny" and the atrocious Quartet names SeleSele, ParaPara, and BesuBesu) and attack names were called out by a generic word and "Flieg" (Fly) or "Flieg und Sieg" (Fly and Conquer) for finishers most of the time. The laziest has to be Dutch one, as it's based on the German one, down to the German original opening!
