Yeah, it's not connected to G1... for those of you who haven't seen the episode, I won't say why, but it's quite obvious to anyone with reason why it's not.

If this is part of some splintered jump through time via space bridge, alternate world, continuation of G1 then it's entireyl plausible that Megatron would not be called Galvatron.

Anyone with a true Megatron hard-on would know that, having heard of or at least read, Battlestars: Return of Convoy or Alignment.

If you want this to be connected to G1, then here's my theory:
(quite difficult indeed, and ignores quite a lot of the TF mythos)

You essentially ignore everything that happens just after prime dies in the 1986 Movie.

And Unicron never arrives, never changes Megs into Galvy Hot rod never gets the matrix, and no Rodimus.

War wages on. Ultra Magnus takes the Matrix of Leadership, from Prime and becomes leader of the Autobots.

Several Centuries later, a new Optimus Prime is built. goes to the academy. etc... Ratchet (which is of course one of the few surviving Autobots) Joins the new Prime since he feels he failed to protect his old friend and now needs to protect this one.

Megatron is still in the search for thew ultimate power a.k.a the All Spark.

Hows that? Yes it has a slew of Plot holes, and effectively ignores everything in the Marvel comics etc...

Not very good IMHO.

Which is why I agree, Animated is not connected to G1 in anyway shape or form.

No need to look for connections between Animated and G1....because there is none, and to "find" any is serious straw-reaching..no offence intended!

The only connections between Animated and G1 are the little nods-to-the-fans that pop up from time to time. Does it mean the series' plots are connected? NO. But it does mean that the writers/animators/etc are telling us "Hey, we haven't forgotten G1 either, and we want you to love this like you loved G1" And so far, it's working.

BTW, congrats on hitting 1000 posts, Pyro. Maybe one day I'll be cool like you! :P

I think animated is not connected to G1, but instead it is in universe where there is some War Within G1 pre-history-like history. Or maybe this universe started out like G1-verse, but in this one Orion Pax never became Optimus Prime. That kind of thing would create totally different reality, I think.

I like how Total Meltdown will be aired on the 5th. It was pretty good, considering it was just to introduce a human villian. I'm also glad Blast from the Past will reair after it. The Dinobots were suh-weet! Then finally we'll Blackarachnia after that, which will be pretty interesting.

So far, who are everyone's favorite villains? (based on what we've seen of them on the cartoon not what you read online)

These opinions may change as the series goes on but that's the point. I wanna see how the opinions will change later.

Anyway, so far my favs, in order, are...

Lockdown: Because useing the parts of your defeated enimies to upgrade yourself, what could be more evil than that?

Meltdown: Don't care that he's not a Transformer, he's just freaking cool.

Starscream: Ignoring the Jay Lenno chin, I think this has been the best Starscream to date.

Megatron: I think he got defeated too easily but he's allso been verry good at useing people to get what he wants rather than just tossing out treats or repogramming his minions like so many other Megatrons.

As for the rest of the characters we've seen so far, I either hate them (Angry Archer) or want to see more of them (Blitzwing, Blackarachnia, and Lugnuz) before making any finnal judgements.

And I vote Blitzwing best bad guy ever, in Transformers that is.

Can't decide yet. The others have to be shown more so I can tell. And you better add Nanosec to that list since he's debuting Saturday.

I already love Lockdown, although I'm inclined to say to keep him dead, or at least wait for about ten+ episodes to bring him back. Thrill of the Hunt just had too much of a deep meaning behind it to just bring him back right off the bat like the Decepticons of old.

I don't think it's possible to dislike this reincarnation of Starscream, to be honest, and the Dinobots were awfully cool. I'm counting them as villans until they switch sides.

As for everyone else, their not horrible villans by any means. But who else have we honestly seen aside from maybe ten minutes combined of the other Decepticons? Angry Archer, I have a feeling, will become the typical 'punching bag' villan, with Meltdown becoming a semi-recurring villan.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with what we've got so far, human and robot alike. I'm looking forward to more baddies showing up. =D

I have to say, I'm really liking the villians for this series so far. I'm not a big fan of the human villians, but I don't really dislike them either---my opinion of them varies from vaguely amused (Angry Archer) to indifferent (Meltdown). I think its just because the 'bot villians so far have just been so very good at being bad.

I mean, c'mon, with Starscream you had the dangerous-and-more-than-a-little-insane baddie, with Lockdown you get the cool, collected, morally indifferent creepy psycho who takes trophies off of the 'bots he hunts down*, and with Megs you get the scheming, manipulative mastermind, plus the Big Scary Ultimate Bad Guy thing thrown in as well.

After all that, Meltdown with his whole "mrr, I hate robots! and the guy who created them, grr!" schtick wasn't quite as cool. The "obsessed scientist who accidentally turns himself into a monster" is a perfectly valid antagonist, but I really think I enjoy the cooler, less-angsty types of bad guys.

(*reminding me just a bit of that big game hunter from "A Prime Target" in G1, but that might be 'cos I watched it just yesterday...)

Well, it is tough to tell, since they are sorely lacking in villians thus far (Squishies NEVER count in TF series, IMHO).....

I've watched the 70 minute debut and the following episode featuring the Autobot sleepover and so far I'm enjoying the Animated series. I still need to watch the newer episodes, but at least I feel motivated to do so since I see a lot of promise.

The distinct characterization has really worked in the series' favor instead of just having a bunch of characters with several becoming too homogenous to really distinguih any real personality, which is what occurred in G1. I like seeing an Optimus Prime that is young and inexperienced, who doesn't have all the answers, but whose abundant wisdom and strength belies what kind of leader he is destined to be. I would say this Optimus has more in common with a Rodimus Prime than classic Optimus, but Optimus has the advantage of seeming to grow as a leader with each episode.

Starscream is as sneaky and devious as ever, but seems to be a truly formidable foe, somebody who can actually give Megatron a run for his money. And Megatron is as menacing as ever and I think the voice acting is spot on for Megs: cool and calm, yet with an unmistakeable hint of evil and deceit.

I have really liked Prowl's "philosopher/loner" incarnation and wsa glad to see him engaging in a bit of fun by playing Twister at the end of episode 4; yeah, it was "cutesy" and corny, but it put a smile on my face. I'm glad to see a bit of levity from one of the more mature characters on the show so far.

Not sold on Bumblebee's narcicistic misfit characterization so far and Bulkhead is a bit too much of a lumbering oaf at this point, but overall, I think it's been real solid.

From what they showed of Bulkhead and Prowl in "Blast From the Past" I don't think Bulkhead will ever be any more than a lumbering oaf.

Going off the whole Beast Wars thing because the way this series is set up it does remind me of Beast Wars...

Optimus Prime obviously is more like Optimus Primal than any exsisting "Prime" in that he wasn't the Matrix barring Supreme Commander.

Bumblebee reminds me of a cross between Rattrap, Cheetor, and Hot Shot I guess. I only mention Hot Shot because Cheetor, Hot Shot, and Bumblebee all have one thing in common... they all call Optimus "Big Bot". Other than that Bumblebee's personality is a litte closer to Rattrap's than Cheetor's.

Prowl has some definate characteristics of Tigatron, BM Silverbolt, and just a hint of Dinobot.

Ratchet... an older and crankier version of Rhinox?

Bulkhead... Um yeah... I can't think of anyone...

Now that you mentioned it, I thought Starscream was the one with a SpongeBob actor. (The guy who voiced Starscream is actully Patchy the Pirate who is a non-animated character that hosts the SpongeBob TV specials.)

Bulkhead actully does sound ALOT like Patrick Star but I think they have different voice actors. I'm going to go look that up while I'm thinking about it. (Allthough I'm sure someone else will allready have it posted before I can find it.)

-=edit=-

Found it. According to this, Bulkhead really is Patrick Star.

http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Bill_Fagerbakke

The guy who does Starscream is a much better actor. Patchy the Pirate and Starscream sound nothing alike where as Bulkhead and Patrick are the same freaking voice.

http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Tom_Kenny

Bill "Bulkhead" Fagerbakke only has that one voice apperently.

Tom "Starscream" Kenny allso has the Tutor Bot and the guy who I really don't like.

I did some more digging and discovered Tom actully does multiple voices for Sponge Bob as well. Including the title character, Garry the Snail, and serval others that were appereantly too many to actully list. I never realized all these characters were the same guy till I actully looked it up.

Bill, on both shows, only does a single character. Don't get me wrong I think he's a funny guy in both shows but it's kinda sad he only seems to be able to do that one voice.

Ya said Tom Kenny was Patchy. He was also Spongebob himself.

So I guess this means that this series has the Spongebob and Patrick actors playing mortal enemies instead of best friends. Oh, that would be scary if starscream and Bulkhead decided to become best buddies and acted like their Spongebob Squarepants characters Can you imagime Bulkhead and Starscream jellyfishing together? Ugh, creepy.

While I'm talking about voice actors...

I heard the guy from the Simpsons who does the voices for both Smithers and Mr. Burns records both voices at the same time so if you watched him in the recording studio you'd actully see him haveing conversations with himself.

I'd really like that guy to do a couple voices like that for Transformers just because I think it'd be fun to watch him fight himself if one of his character's was an Autobot and the other a Decepticon.

Great now I wanna look up, maybe he's allready been in Transformers and I just didn't know it.

-=edit=-

The guy's name is Harry Shearer. I really want them to hire him for Transformers and put a bonus feature in the DVD so I can watch him talk to himself.

Something like that has already been done in Beast Wars. Remember how Scott McNeil was Rattrap and Dinobot and Waspinator and Silverbolt. A lot of times he would be talking to/arguing with himself when doing the voices of those guys. Especially the episode when Rattrap and Dinobot have to team up to get something from Tarantuals to cure Rhinox's virus. Half of that episode was McNeil yelling at himself. :P
