You have seriously got to watch that. Takes a while to get going but it ends up being a damn good series.

I'll have to find the time to look into it. Wonder if it's on Netflix? It used to be rerun on cartoon network all the time but it's not there now.

And we're hugging stu now? Things have progressed fast

Yep, it's on Netflix. I'm watching it with my sons. The other day we watched a super awesome episode where Anikan sees his future and doesn't like it.

The "Mortis trilogy" was definitely some of the best episodes. Sam Witwer was amazing throughout as the Son, and they later bring him back to voice Darth Maul.

Ewoks eat people.

------

Oh and no Rogue One teaser yet... Perhaps they are going to wait until after Force Awakens is out on Home formats or perhaps they want to place the teaser/preview on Civil War when that comes out. Heck maybe they might not even release one for months yet.

Putting the existing show event teaser on the Force Awakens home format release would be a good idea though as a little extra something though I'd say.

I hope they shoot the X-Wings in a way that is easier to follow though as I didn't have one clue which one was which in Force Awakens due to the way it's shot. Even Poe's ship being black didn't really help a whole lot either.

What with the T-65 all being mostly the same colour they need to be super careful how they edit the Movie so you can actually tell who is who and what is what I'd say though.

Well let's look at this way, there's just over ten months till rogue one comes out (which I bet will have a teaser for ep VIII). So a teaser will be hitting soon, so given that civil war is a few months out still, it does seem likely though I want a look at Dr strange there as well.

@clone wars, so it's on Netflix? Awesome, I'll try to catch it then.

EDIT: so putting a bracket after the numerous 8 creates a smiley? Things you learn by accident

i don't think Pratt's name has been attached to that role!

they do have a line up of people of whom they've gotta pick, but i can't remember what their names are?(unless i'm thinking of the Anthology film :-? )

They should get that guy who played young Harrison in Age of Adaline. Looks and delivers lines like him.

The Han solo movie is an anthology movie :-P I've heard rumours about pratt but this was the same time there was rumours about him being the new indy. Cause you know, despite how much Ford wants to do indy 5, unless it's a last crusade deal where the focus shifts on to his son who is played by someone other than Shia la bouf, he's getting on a bit.

That would be a harder one since it literally happens before a new hope, so there's not a lot of options for them to get Han solo in there.

It seems pretty obvious to give the guy a role in a TV show to get the practice and confidence down so he can be useful later on. Oddly It's his Connery impression that impressed me the most - I liked the idea of Young Indy impersonating his dad in a movie.

--------

I wonder if anyone here has given any thought to "Young Anakin" as character - he speak to people about "Coming back to free the slave" and to free his mother - yet he never does this - why ?

Is Obi Wan so hard to get around that he's unable to ever visit her - I would argue he is a special circumstance - and perhaps if he is the chosen one making sure he's not worried sick about his Mom might not be a bad thing for his training.

I can't see how Shmi can be seen as a bad influence on him - heck she literally could have saved his soul if she'd bee given a Galactic Com link to talk to her son now and again.

He didn't even know that his mother had been bought from Watto and sold on.

We also see the Jedi Council refuse to train him not just because of his age and his attachment to him mother - but also due to his fear and anger.

Yet what do we see in his life that should make him angry - not a lot he has nothing to be upset about he has clean clothes, is well fed - even has his own room and plenty to occupy a young boys minds - lots of friends and free time too.

So it looks like he's simply a messed up little boy for his own reasons. Now if Palpatine and Plagius had made him then that would be understandable as then he'd have been essentially conjured up from the dark side.

Yet now more recently we are told he is a natural spontaneous pregnancy caused by he midiclorans & the Force in response to the force being assaulted by Plegius & Palpatine.

I think there seems to be some things to stroke the ol' chin over with regard to this point of the story for sure - and it makes me wonder what the future take on it will be if an Anakin clone shows up again in the future in another movie. ?

Part of becoming a Jedi means cutting ties with your past life. Jedi aren't supposed to have any real attachments, after all.

I think you're looking into things a bit too much especially since a lot of it is bad writing on lucas part like anakin and his mum in attack of the clones. I don't know why lucas had to bring all that about a chosen one in, what obi wan said in the original trilogy was already a good starting point. I don't know if I would miss too much if the prequels were suddenly made Uncanon (doubtful as that is to happen)

I guess the reason I bring it up is that if you look on his mother as an example of "attachment" then you could say that Padme is his well "Sugar Momma" then.

I was just curious - nay interested that it seems as if Lucas was setting up the idea of Fear and attachment being a factor in his fall (which they are) but the reason they give for fear is simply not there.

Or to put it in another way - they couldn't show Young Anakin as having a horrible childhood as then it would't have fitted in with the marketing campaign so well.
A scruffy urchin would sit so well on the Burger King cups as a bowl cut kid in a flight helmet does.

But that is why people object to the casting of Jake Lloyd as they say they saw a darkness in one of the kids not chosen that would have ideally suited the idea of a dark destiny.

Besides if you start the kid of as a heroic kid who wants to free slaves and then in the next Movie turn him into what they turned him into some eyebrows are sure to be raised I guess.

Um...what? He had a premonition of his wife dying. His fear was that vision coming to pass, which, given that the same kind of vision had some to pass with his mother, is 100% reasonable. Did you even watch Revenge of the Sith? Because they explain this one pretty well.

Re: The Star Wars Thread

Postby RAR » Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:58 am

I was specifically talking about the Phantom Menace version of Anakin.

I am saying that the Motivations given for Anakin's fall and the Motivations for the council being so hesitant around Anakin as a child and and adult are ones that seem more in keeping to Padme than Young Anakin.

The refusal to train Young Anakin is give for reasons of attachment to his mother - and yet - he didn't pay any notice of her for a decade and the reason for the fall is more connected to his fears over Padme than his Mother.

I'm not saying there is change in the reason he falls on his face it's still fear and attachment - i'm just saying that Young Anakin's attachment wasn't an unhealthy one (unlike creepy stalker Attack of the Clones Anakin) that the Jedi council saw it as unhealthy says more about the disfunction of the Jedi than it does Anakin's character.

Little Anakin has very little wrong with his character, it's the older version that is a complete Cluster***k.

As such I am saying the council's reasons for not training him seem like one of ideology and not a negative judgement of his youthful character.

In retrospect it seems a little unlikely that they'd simply turn away any force sensitive children they find from training simply as they are 9 years old.

But as some have pointed out (including FNA Nostalgia Chick) there is something a bit weird about the Jedi - but then I always thought that was on purpose - so when I see revisionism that paints the Jedi as some sort of saints I personally see that at odds with what is actually on the screen in the Prequels - if anything what is on the screen shows Obi Wan as a the hero for not being as passionate as Anakin and more passionate than say Mace Windu or Yoda - and that is why he's a good match to Luke.

Some have even pointed out that Anakin likely wouldn't have been as likely to turn if either Obia Wan had either been wilfully blind or had been covering for him so much - or if Mace Windu had trained him.

They certainly SHOULD NEVER have discussed the prophecy of the chosen one with him in his presence EVER as it only feed his ego.

They should never had that silly prophecy in the first place, or shown him as a child.

In a way the phantom menace feels like the odd one out of the prequels, not fitting in with its brethren.

Re: The Star Wars Thread

A common concern oft expressed - as is why have Count Dooku.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Next Generation in 20 years time or so will say things when watching these Movies as a group of 9 will likely have a bunch of long term points they will be scratching their heads over.

Like why get rid of your villains in the prequels and yet they keep them in the sequels & OT

Why so many Death Star like super weapons.

If Episode 8 & 9 fail to address it people will also wonder why Rey's "Journey" in the use of the force is so out of whack with the one of Younger Anakin, Ezra or Luke.

Personally though I do wonder if long term people will have the opinion about Force Awakens that is the Opinion people have about the Beast Wars Season 3 opener. which is that wasn't really the follow up they wanted from the previous setup.

But then you always have the problem that Return of the Jedi is pretty opaque to a lot of people in terms of the meaning of the resolution of Luke's arc - that people are still arguing about it 30+ years later shows that quite well.

The issue also is that what a lot of people have seemingly not yet realised except on a surface level is that Luke's "achievement" has been fundamentally altered over time. Even in the EU's (current) conclusion this is the case - but it's also case with Luke doing a runner - I really do wonder - will people look at Return of the Jedi and if they understand the overall arc (by watching it in 'machete order' especially) then they will be really scratching their heads over The Force Awakens when they come to the franchise as a 9 parter growing up in the next couple or three decades.

So I think Disney really has to think very seriously how these Movies will hand together as a triple-trilogy - instead of just being passive aggressive about the Prequels - because that is what they think people want to hear.

It's going to be a 9 parter spread over 42 years (wonder if Douglas Adams would of liked that) inconsistencies are a given. We're going to have filmmakers wanting to leave their mark on this franchise because it was what inspired them.

I Wish People would stop writing Disney off though for movies that haven't happened yet, we've had one film which was just to show that these films arent going to be like the prequels, we all know what We wanted A sequel to look like but you cant please everyone.
