Thanks Emerje for posting the news about the pre-orders. I updated it to include the Amazon links that weren't available earlier today.
Love that Powerglide has the alien mask. It's always such an odd thing to include. Now he can join Masterpiece Sunstreaker for Halloween.

2. Mark confirms that he saw the Geoff Senior art of Liege Maximo from Alignment and misinterpreted the three ships flying around his hand as the Liegian Darts.
3. I've heard a lot of people mispronounce Jhiaxus's name before (it's a pun on "Gee, axe us"), but this is the first I've heard anyone (Mark, in this case) mispronounce it as "Unjaxus".
For me the biggest thing was them confirming they will be doing limbs for Nexus Prime, just not this year so they haven't been able to talk about them. I'm guessing the backlash and potential hit to sales got the higher ups to fast track that a bit.

No problem, but I will complain that we need to enable more picture formats on the site. I spent hours downloading and converting every single one of those pictures to .jpg one at a time. Only being able to upload 10 at a time didn't help either. Between that and the links it was probably the most time I've spent on an article.

February AotP Deep Dive Video Reveals New Details About Upcoming Figures Including Nexus Prime Limbs
- Motto: "Spellcheck's antithesis."
- Weapon: Saw-Edged Pincer
The Transformers brand team of Evan, Mark and Nate produced a deep dive video for the Age of the Primes figures that went up for pre-order on Tuesday as well as giving hints at some of the figures coming in the future.

- Mark says he's looking forward to making a zombie Cliffjumper.
- Prime Smokescreen was done because he was a Prime candidate in the show.
- Smokescreen has "suicide doors" that open in car mode.
- Powerglide's face spins around giving a place for the mask to attach to.
- Powerglide's thermal rubsign is non-fuctioning, but Mark wanted to add it as a nod to the original figure.
- Apparently Mark (who has bee on the Transformers team since 2010) named the red Hoist redeco Lift-Ticket, though none of them could remember his name.
- Mark wants to repaint Swerve and replace the silver plastic with more white.
- Tease doing Throttlebots in the future based on the Mini Bots
- Show that Nexus can connect with Silverbolt's thruster in alt mode (a picture of him in combiner mode from Mark's Instagram video can be found at the bottom of his article)

- Confirm that Nexus will get proper limbs in 2027!
- Once again tease that the Prime artifacts are able to do something when you have them all.
- Considered doing Nexus as a Duocon (Duobot?) at one point.
- Seem to imply that the Vector Prime coming in the final wave isn't a straight repackage of the one from Legacy. Nate seems very confused by this at first, thinking Liege Maximo is the final Prime of the line.
- Maximo's entire set of large horns comes off his back and can be used as a weapon.
- Maximo is also made to be compatible with Studio Series Coronation Starscream's throne and the back horns can attach to the back of the throne to keep the silhouette.
- Our own Sabrblade points out that Maximo's darts are a misinterpretation of ships in the Aligned art panel and not the actual darts.
- Maximo's left hand has a canon mode.

While I appreciate Nexus getting limbs next year, I do have thoughts on the whole thing:
For one, if Nexus himself is the core robot, does that mean the other bots will also be called Nexus, or have different names? If they have different names, shouldn't Nexus himself be Heatwave or something?
They say limbs, but will they include the skeleton somehow? Or are we stuck using a spare Silverbolt? Will it be a gift set with a new Nexus plus the skeleton and 4 limbs, and we end up with a standalone and combining Nexus, maybe with retooled heads?
If they were doing limbs, why not do the limbs this year and push Bruticus to next year? Seems odd to spread Nexus out over 2 years, especially since his limbs will come out in the next line, not "Age of the Primes".

Just guessing, I think Heatwave will be one of our Commanders next year, probably a heavy retool of Onslaught. It sort of makes sense to do Bruticus first since they need the Onslaught, Brawl and Vortex molds out less they make Bruticus feel like a halfhearted retool of Nexus. I'm sure they'll work a way in for AotP Nexus to take the center spot. Worst case scenario is having to do like Mark did and take frames from Superion and Bruticus and add the new limbs to them, that would be terrible.

Calling it right now:
- Nexus Prime will stay main retail
- The limbs will be exclusives (On Pulse or Amazon more than likely)
- The limbs will include their dedicated skeleton part (flexible exclusive pricing)
- The limbs will be called Nexus something, and the combined form... Actually, scratch that.

A quick note on Smokescreen and his doors. Those are not suicide doors, they are more like a combination of regular doors (hinged at the front) and scissor doors (ala Lamborghini) that pivot at the front to open vertically. Suicide doors have the hinge in the rear, not the front. The suicide nickname came from the inability to open and jump out of a moving car when the hinge is in the rear without the door itself making you eat pavement. An out of control car with true suicide doors was basically a deathtrap.
Semantics aside, I like what they did with the doors.

I'm in the minority but these accessories had a fleeting appearance in the cartoon. It's like Dr Bev Crusher in Star Trek TNG. She is prominent in the series yet the fans always bring up the ghost incident in the Sub Rosa(?) episode.

The alien masks are from the episode "Hoist Goes Hollywood", in which the Autobots Hoist, Powerglide, Sunstreaker, Tracks, and Warpath all joined the cast of a science fiction B-movie in which they played the roles of evil alien robots and wore silly looking alien masks for their roles.megatran wrote:Seibertron wrote:Love that Powerglide has the alien mask. It was one of the second season's sillier episodes (which is saying a lot considering just how many silly episodes that season had).

And that just happened to be the second episode I ever saw at age 6, after Kremzeek. So yeah, I need all 5 Autobots in that mask. Has any 3P done one that fits any version of Warpath? He's the only Evil Alien Robot who still hasn't gotten an official one.Sabrblade wrote:The alien masks are from the episode "Hoist Goes Hollywood", in which the Autobots Hoist, Powerglide, Sunstreaker, Tracks, and Warpath all joined the cast of a science fiction B-movie in which they played the roles of evil alien robots and wore silly looking alien masks for their roles.megatran wrote:Seibertron wrote:Love that Powerglide has the alien mask. Yeah I think Jelze's probably nailed it on the release plan for the limbs (you can't sell an empty skeleton in a box by itself after all, it's gotta come with at least one functional figure) and Emerje's probably right on the Bruticus-release-first reasoning, not to mention I imagine filling the biggest price points of these 2 years with a giant Optimus and 2 G1 combiners is part of how they were allowed to even do the 13 at retail with almost entirely new molds in the first place.Jelze Bunnycat wrote:Calling it right now:

Chiming in to float the idea that this wil be Superion's skeleton retooled to mount the Requiem Blaster and other Prime accessories in its fortification mode.
Edit: Although, what would be really interesting is if they tweaked Motormaster and his trailer/skeleton to make IDW Sentinel Prime wearing the Apex Armor from Megatron: Origin.

AM I the only one who thinks that the Liege Maximo figure is going to be the Unicron Soldier? He bears a really strong resemblance to the Unicron from TF: Prime and I missed out on that figure.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Given that the Original 13's sculpts weren't supposed to be pretools, and the Liege Maximo arguably has the strangest aesthetics of the line, it's ironic that they nailed it AFAIC, yet he's also perfect for a Gaia Unicron retool, the original of which had supposed breakage issues that made me decide against the aftermarket import cost. The spaceship mode could even be remolded into a passable volcano.

So, what's the plan with Nexus Prime? Will all 4 libs be deluxes released as voyagers because they would come with a part of the combiner frame? Or should we expect a boxset of some kind ?

If it takes a whole voyager class figure to make a knee and below, the only way I see this being totally satisfying is if they create an additional bot (presumably "Heatwave" that can be the upper legs, pelvis, and back. Then they'd need to either make voyager class arms from scratch, or add arm frames to the already taxed design for "Heatwave".
A boxset with a retool of Silverbolt's frame seems the most practical, but that's a lot of $$$ for something that's incomplete, unless they include another release of Nexus, which would also be annoying in its own way.
I think my happy compromise is them selling a recolor of the Superion frame with a small, token bot, maybe even just a Micronus recolor, and a bunch of accessories. Maybe a selection of other 'artifacts' (e.g., Nexus Prime's sword) or recolors of the ones we've gotten,

The price probably wouldn't be that bad as a box set. Three Deluxes and a Voyager is the same as we get in Target exclusives, add in the frame parts and we're looking at around $120 or so for the set. For all we know they could be Target exclusives for next year, that would make the price more manageable.
I think the worst case would be if they sold the limbs as part of the regular line next year and you had to cannibalize the frame from other combiners.

Introducing Liege Maximo—the whisperer in the dark, the architect of doubt, the Prime who fell so far he became legend. This figure needs to step into your collection as Transformers first true decepticon, a prime that mastered the art of deception. His artifact ,the liegian darts possess great power, but Maximo’s words are his greatest weapon.
.
Worked on this glorious leader item with the master Yuki san at Takara Tomy. Lots of fun and love went into this and I think it shows. I hope to get to do more outlandish creative designs in TF because this guy was just so much fun to work on.
.
I felt the cables had to be contained but I imagine them being an extension of him, each individual cord is alive and transform in and out of his body as needed. They are shimmering with metallic blue paint and have such intense sculpt details on them its soooo cooool! The sculpt details all over are outrageous, spikes, veins, earthy hunka chunkahs, you name it, this guy has it! The weapon along with the darts can transform into the front of the alien warship alt mode. I imagine his darts have thier own individual abilities and personas, I was workshopping some lore with my man Monzo Matt but I don’t know where we settled on.
.
The thirteen primes are almost completed, what sort of event will happen, whats next, is this the end of all cybertronians or the beginning, stay tuned to find out!

I wonder if Maximo is a "leaderized" Jhiaxus, or just in the "same family" like for Megatronus and Siege Megatron?

Jhiaxus? Nah, he's clearly a retool of Arcee!-Kanrabat- wrote:I wonder if Maximo is a "leaderized" Jhiaxus, or just in the "same family" like for Megatronus and Siege Megatron?
