While the size is impressive, the pant apps are still a let down. Especially after seeing the SDCC version. I really don't understand why so much detail is put into deluxe class, but the larger figures all feel cheaper.

Not interested in the SDCC version, don't really think a few paint apps will be worth the increased price.

I was wondering though, Takara has done 2 repaints and 1 new mould for the other teams, so does anyone think there is a chance they'd do a proper Mixmaster? That might be worth the extra cost to me :-?

There's a difference between being slightly oversized and stupid big for nothing. This figure is stupid big for nothing. I dont need it in my collection, money saved.

Ha! The size is the one thing still keeping me interested.

I want this Devy, I just want him to look a little better. I guess it may be fair to say I've been spoiled by MPs and 3rd party.... :-?

No, my logic is just because somebody did something first, doesn't mean they did it best.

Its just funny how many people are sugarcoating the size and forcing themselves to like it just because Hasbro made it. Ive never seen so many fan made theories on why devastator is bigger than the other combiners. Theyre willing to erase the G1 cartoon from their minds just to accommodate a Hasbro business decision. This set of pictures made every penny I spent on Hercules and upgrades worth it. ($750-800) Hell, I would have dropped a grand before trying to sugarcoat this oversized mess and shoehorn him into my collection. Thats just my opinion. Feel free to disagree, I know many will.

A LOT of people really don't care for the G1 cartoon, you know. There are better media outlets out there than a 30-year-old show with inconsistent animation and pedestrian plots and characters.

Like you just said, just because somebody (this case being that old cartoon) did something first, doesn't mean they did it best.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that there is something faulty with their logic. Not everyone is "sugarcoating the size" or "forcing themselves to like it."

unfortunately that awesome size comparison finally turned me off on it. Space for me is limited and I simply have no room for something so awesomely big. So sad day for me.

And what makes "this particular toy" worthy of not caring about scale ? If someone likes the character enough to exempt scale from their requirements, they can just flat out say they are buying it because they are a super-duper devy fan. Theres no need to make up fan fiction to try to justify shoehorning it into your collection. Creating proposed cybertronian science theories on why devy is bigger than the other combiners just shows insecurity about the figures size. And that IS sugarcoating.

I don't care much for talks of scale. Because scale-wise a Primus toy would be impossible. And yet we have one and I am glad we do. And I am glad to eventually own an awesome Devastator toy for a fraction of the third party cost. I also think he has a better look than the third party toys, due to his G1 aesthetic. I don't min at all if he isn't in scale with the other combiners. To me, he actually works much better in scale with regular deluxe toys than the other combiners do, due to the mass shifting that occurs.

And honestly some of us do care about scale. As impressive as OG Devastator looked on the packaging of that gift set at your local Best store(back in the day), I admit I was a little underwhelmed to find him so puny in hand. Same with '86 Metroplex. Great toy, but noticeably out of scale that he just seemed like any other bot, nothing special. Couple years ago we finally got a proper Metroplex in all his gargantuan awesomeness. This is what I'm feelin with this set. Finally a Devastator that represents his presence from both the cartoon and comic. What can I say? I love Transformers and it's nice to have toys that convey the fiction. I don't care if its tied in with any marketing ploy or what. No sugarcoating required.

Looks like early Ebay presale listings are going for $300 - $600, all of which seem overpriced to me. Even SDCC Metroplex can be found on Ebay minty fresh for < $300. I want SDCC Devastator badly but last year I bought the SDCC Kreon set at the inflated Ebay prices, and then they were available at the Hasbro toy shop for much less and plenty of them to meet demand. Given that experience, I'm probably going to wait and get him from the Hasbro toy shop after SDCC. Worst case, I'll probably still be able to find him on Ebay for inflated Ebay prices if the Hasbro Toy Shop thing doesn't work out.

It just seems that the team behind this designed it in isolation from the combiner wars teams (possibly straight after Metroplex) and then, at the meeting, they came in just after the big combiner wars demo and were like "uh oh..."

I think Hasbro have really dropped the ball here. I don't think kids will buy (all) of the toys (as they all look "the same") individually, and the price of such a huge toy will put parents off. I also think most collectors are either on the fence, or will just get a third party for this combiner instead.

Hasbro showed that they couldn't even get Metroplex right (just look at the awful, stunted ramp, which the G1 team managed to get right), so I feel that after this, we won't be getting any more giant robots from Hasbro, which is a shame, but only Hasbro's fault if it is true.
