Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread

That's the problem though we don't know what constraints they were under to design this figure(s). Unless someone knows someone who works as a designer then we can only speculate. I really doubt it was their intention to screw over the articulation of the individual figs. Sacrifices would have to be made

I know, but it just does not make sense that Hasbro, who has been on a goldmine lately with toy design, would make such a huge sacrifice for a figure.

right because you never intend to combine them if you do own them and because kibble has been total taboo from Transformers for 30 years. what are you even expecting?
While a little harshly worded, I totally agree.
*Sigh* I think the individual figures look, honestly, really crappy. The Combined form is great, no arguing that, but honestly, I don't get a sense of awe when looking at it, the arms look a bit to small and the head is, while perfectly G1, very simple. I'm not trying to aggravate the Devastator fanboys out here, but I'd take any of the 3'd Party figures over this guy. At least they all have elbows, even the legends scale one.
and i plan on continuing to support Hasbro/Takara to show my gratitude that after 30 years, we still get G1 characters modernized. spend your $600 on $120 worth of plastic. ill continue to support the people that made my childhood great while you spit in their face saying you'd rather buy 3rd party figures.
Half of the Hasbro people that made your childhood great are either retired or 6 feet underground. I doubt the original artist who drew Devastator 30 years ago is getting a penny for this new figure. And if I win the Powerball tomorrow and buy Devy-sized stock in the Transformers brand, you’ll be supporting me, lol. So please stop patronizing us about how buying "official" is supporting the creators of G1 because it's not. It's supporting the people who inherited G1 from its creators. The Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians of the Hasbro empire. Don’t get me wrong, when Hasbro makes cool figures, I buy them. And I buy a lot. But CW Devastator just isn’t cool to me. It's out of scale, overly simplified, and Mixmaster flat out sucks with his toilet truck mode and Waspinator bug butt. I own both Hercules and Giant which are by far better figures and I don’t need this thing.

He's got a fair point of the individual figures being somewhat lacking. I'm sure lots of collectors display combiners individually; I do, Sometimes I just dismember a combiner and pose my fleet of figures.
So wanting a nice set of individual figures is equally important to some, as a cohesive combined mode is to others. I will not buy this set so long as it is tremendously underpainted, and/or lacks individual elbows. I won't go 3P, I'll just miss out; but I have my rules and Devestator breaks them.
I'm one of those that displays their combiner bots in the individual bot modes (*gasp* the horror!), and agree with you. Devy has a lot of issues for my tastes, but I'm still holding out hope that TakTom's version will sway me because I WANT to love this.

I know but only thing I could add is that maybe they give it a budget to stick to based around the size class and how many sales they could predict for it. They would want to leave themselves a nice profit margin still.

This is just a difference in expectations I suppose. To me THIS....
is NOT a brick. I see good shoulder articulation, I see hips, I see separate legs, maybe even ankle rockers. He can crouch, aim, shoot, He can do a lot with the one exception of bending at the elbow...

My only real complaint is the dull green paint job in vehicle mode. It IS a little boring. It's fairly ACCURATE and I can understand why they did it. But when you look at the rest of the CW figures you see stripes... You see decals... you see varying paint schemes that make the figures a bit more vibrant. I really am hoping for either TT to do something interesting (which I personally doubt as that would back away from G1 and Cartoon appearances) or some reprolables to add little warning signs or construction stickers or SOMETHING that adds a little detail to the vehicles.
But it's a minor complaint

Admittedly, it was a bit of exaggeration, but as arms tend to lend the most expression and character to a pose, no elbows kills a lot of potential poses. by brick poses, I meant that that was a halmark of G1 poseability, the straight arm thing, so adding thigh and knee articulation, doesn't really fix anything for those of us that want or team to strike a cool pose

I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

It has the wonderful effect of making people seem ridiculous or unreasonable for not simply and totally loving something that Hasbro releases, or that does not fit their personal interests. You don't like this product for something that really is a legitimate reason? Let me make these kinds of comments and posts against you, to make it seem like you're unreasonable and entitled because you dared to have a contrary opinion.
I like to call it "Independent Thought Shaming."

So independent thoughts are the ones from the hive mind that is transformers fandom other thoughts are somehow not independent because you Dagon declare them to be immoral. Glad you are taking notes from the Church of Scientology.

lol what? I don't declare anyone's opinion on something as trivial in the grand scheme of things as wrong; I won't call them 'immoral' because that's pretty overly dramatic and dumb. And people who make comments like the one you initially quoted do so in response to someone not fawning over some official figure, with little to no regard for how childish it makes them appear. I'm not entirely sure that my thinking that is a stupid response is Scientology-related, while making inane comments about how not liking a toy equals demanding special attention or entitlement is somehow acceptable.
But, those people who make such comments at people for not liking an official product are doing the same thing you're lamely accusing me of doing here, so go and flood them with your tears as well. Fair is fair, after all, and you yourself wouldn't want to be accused of some Scientologist-style reaction, now would you?

Holy ****, people are still bitching about Scrappers elbows? Please, those that are, do NOT become civil engineers. If you do, please tell us which buildings you design so we can avoid them.

I don't think they would get that far if they didn't care about structural integrity but you never know. It's a scary world we live in.

Because I'm somehow pushing unofficial products, or making some kind of derogatory comments about you for preferring the Hasbro ones, or saying that the unofficial ones are superior or something, right?

Agreed.
Here's something that I don't remember being mentioned anywhere... Would anyone have been upset if they had NOT designed him to being doing that handstand thing? I know it's G1 accurate, and I'm generally in the G1 boat.... but I always thought that was a weird look back in the day. Gave him some kind of a high heels looking foot.
If they had found a way to drop his head down and flush his shoulders... then raise the plow up a little he could have stood on Scrapper's shoulders instead of using his arms like that. And still look the same from the front.
Sounds more stable too... They updated Mixmaster a bit, I'm kind of surprised they didn't find something better then 'handstand mode' for Scrapper...

I got some transformers fan really upset and he decided to purposely misinterpret what I was saying to fit his agenda which is expected from emotionally charged people on the internet. Yep. Trolls.
I don't know why, but when I measure out 18 inches in height, it looks smaller than in the pictures. I guess it's a known fact that transformers look bigger in the pictures than in real life.
