I don't give a slag about IDW (too much sad gay robots for me, also I'm so far behind that I have no chance of catching up unless I absolutely splurge out on Comixology and buy the entire backlog) but that picture is absolutely adorable. Scale be damned.

I like how Windblade could pilot/drive any of the alt modes if they didn't "shrink" when uncombined. Now that's some G1 mass shifting madness scale be damned fun right there.

Delta, I have a funny answer to your funny question: I do not care for "extra" Constructicons. To me, they will always be a 6 man band. If one of them gets replaced (ie Scrapper being replaced by Prowl and then Scoop), that's different - because they could be modified to combine with the rest of them. But extra Constructicons has always bothered me.

On the flip side, if all of the Constructicons had been released as individual figures done super well, but DIDN'T combine, I'd be all over that. It's weird I know, but it's never been about "Devastator" so much as "The Constructicons" for me. Does that make sense?

You know what? I can get behind that. Especially after the pure unbridled awesomeness that was Ultra class Onslaught.

That makes perfect sense to me! I see it that way with the combaticons. They made Onslought in the Universe line and he didnt combine but that was perfectly fine by me. I would have loved for them to do the rest of the combaticons in that to go with that Onslought.

A bit of bad news for those who own the Hasbro version. Now that the takara release is out, it seems that the Hasbro version has a transformation error in its design.
I just noticed this, look at scraper's roof/cab when he forms a leg on takara compared to Hasbro's

Image

Image

The leg mode for Takara's Scrapper has a different transfomration sugestion than Hasbro's, aside from the added heel. With Hasbro, because the decepticon symbol is on scrapper's roof, they dont rotate that roof piece when forming the leg so that the symbol doesnt look upside down. However, what Takara shows us is that the proper transformation of the mold has that roof/cab piece rotated to prevent scrapper's leg panels from coming apart when posing devastator.

This means that the hasbro version is perpetually mistransformed and someone messed up with the decal placement.

Hmmm but official pictures, and if I remember following instructions on my Combiner Wars Devastator, has the roof rotated so the symbol is upside down.

Panel #1 of Scrapper's transformation to leg shows to rotate the roof:

I don't know why its ordering of panels is reversed though.

Yup, your right, my bad. I just keep seeing a bunch of in hand images of Hasbro Devy with that symbol upright. Even hasbro at toyfair:

But yeah, all the official photography has it upside down.

On my Hasbro one, the :CON: is upside-down because if I put it the right way, the square bit go too far down the ankle. Despite that, my Devy pose like a ballet dancer and I can do whatever I want. So, I don't see any problems... unless I decide to split hair and nitpick problems where there is not.

All the cool 'Cons rock their badges upside down these days. Haven't you heard?

I thought was silly to rotate the cab and make the insignia upside down, but it locks the leg in place. I don't look at instructions until I get finished to see if I missed something or if I just get stuck and I need a nudge.

Yeah, I think the badges can go either way, but at least upsidedown badges are in! :BOT:

I'm the exact opposite. I still remember the 1st time I read Marvel comics issue #10 over 25 years ago, and when Shockwave created then released the Constructicons under Soundwave's authority, I thought "whatever, just 6 more 'cons." But when they combined, I was like "Holy crap...!" even if their mission wasn't a big success. Combiners have always been special to me, more so than any other gimmick that followed. To me, gestalt teams are special and they should be displayed as such. No matter how simple or underwhelming they turned out to be, I have always been fascinated with combiner engineering, and I like to show off the ability of the figures to combine. So for me, it has always been about the sum, not the parts. Though I do enjoy a team that can kick ass as individuals in a fiction.

As for this Titan Devy, his size never impressed me much, but I did like the detail and the combination process. However, I think he's too big for the other gestalts, so he is with the Masterpieces, he scales with them much better. I wish Hasbro and/or Takara would release a version with 6 deluxes. They wouldn't have to change anything, just shrink the figures a bit. It might even make transformation simpler. But I wouldn't care, Devastator would still look great.

I need it to be great both ways. Devastator and the individual 'bots both have to be great. Titan Devy is okay as a gestault, but the idividual robots are mostly fails for me. If I ever manage to set this group for under a $100 on eBay, I'll buy 'em. Till then I'm sticking with my 3rd party set.

I agree hence why I went the takara route. They even improved on the alt modes which hasbro really couldnt care less about.

I was okay with the individual guys, with the exception of Long Haul and Mixmaster. I understand why they changed them, but I still thought it a small eyesore that the mixer drum is backwards and Long Haul is short and stubby compared to what I see on the pages of my G1 comics. In combined mode, these aren't very prominent faults, so I can deal with it. Plus, as I said before, I prefer the combiners in gestalt mode. To me, it's what they're made for.

Well, here are my thoughts:

Scavenger is the best by far!! I love the guy!! He is beautiful and perfect in regards to so much. Bonecrusher would be high up there too if his crotch stayed together. Long Haul: love him, most adorable. BEEFCAKE!!! Mixmaster is fun and plunky, Scrapper is beautiful, and Hook is alright, maybe my least favorite, but mainly because he has to be designed to split in half. And Devy himself oh my goodness. He is amazing. I love him and he was well worth the wait! :BOT:

Unite Warriors Devastator

Postby Spanbauer » Tue Dec 29, 2015 1:07 pm

Opened this guy up on the 20th but didn't have a chance to photograph him until yesterday. I tried to capture the colors of the Takara Tomy edition as accurately as possible, as so frequently the colors look completely different in photos. I love the shade of purple used, but I definitely could have stood to have a slightly more pale green that was closer to the originals than what Takara Tomy used.

Absolutely love this set. It's a dream come true. I don't mind the simplicity of the figures because in reality, it still took me 45 minutes to combine them all the first time and 30 minutes the second time I did it. However, I do wish the vehicles had a little more play value than they do; even the original figures from the 80's outshine this set in that regard. Things such as a spinning cement mixer on Mixmaster, a working crane (both telescoping and rotational) on Hook, a functional box on Long Haul - those would have all been welcomed additions.

If you love these characters and haven't already picked up the Hasbro version, do not hesitate to pick up the Takara Tomy set. It looks great alongside Masterpiece figures, and puts all of the 3rd party attempts to shame in my opinion.

People will think I'm nuts, but I would be so much happier, and so much more willing to pay for this guy, if the constructions had been deluxe sized. As is, they feel like deluxe, just over sized and over priced. If they had been smaller, they would feel perfect. Size isn't a big thing for me, and I find Devy to large for display.
