Also, why are repaints suddenly lazy when someone doesn't like them? It's not like it took zero energy to design an appropriate color map for the figure.
I dont dislike this figure, I dislike Hasbro being lazy about it. Are you saying that color mapping is as energy consuming as making an new mold, or a retool, or just putting another head ? And I think the amount of digibashes found online is a testament to how little effort is needed. In comparison to every single other Combiner Wars release of G1 combiner figures, this is the one with the least added effort since it is the only one to be a straight up redeco. Feel free to argue that to your heart's content.
That Bot wrote:I don't claim that redecoes are as complicated to design as entirely new molds, but they're not lazy or thoughtless. They don't just dump paint buckets on the figures and say "this is good enough". I recognize that the incessant reuse of molds in Combiner Wars is taking its toll on everybody, but the mold reuses are not intrinsically lazy if they are operating on a reduced budget that doesn't allow for every character to be a new mold. Besides, Blast Off as a jet makes more sense. It's just a matter of time before we find out if they've changed his head or not, which I hope they do as much as anybody else. I won't say I wasn't disappointed when he was revealed to be a straight redeco of Quickslinger, but I will wait and see what happens. We have an entire year before the figure is due out, things can change.

Strictly speaking it isn't lazy as a whole. That they probably aren't changing the head kinda sucks, with at least 2 other heads that would have worked (vortex, first aid). It only feels lazy because this will be the fifth combiner chock full of repaints (2 straight-up repaints) plus two others many of us have kinda already experienced (hot spot, rook), so it's entirely understandable that mold fatigue has set in on fans at the very least; and remember that after this we have beta-thingy (retool - but essentially the same as silverbolt) and sky-lynx's limbs are all straight repaints, so mold fatigue is definitely here in full-force

There is a bit more to it. Having Rook as part of a limb for Defensor instead of Groove was odd but not lazy. Rook had his own head, he has his own tooling, his own gimick. And plus Groove is still around. With that I can tell that Hasbro was interested in giving us a new take. I don't like it, but I cant call it lazy. But with Blast Off, them wanting to "modernize" just happens to entail a redeco of an already existing toy (coincidences abound). That makes it a harder pill to swallow to say that hasbro is "caring about scale" or "making more sense" and not just being "lazy". This is lazier than all those other repaints and retools coming out with SkyReign (at least they look like themselves). And the worst part is that this is our Blast Off. If his name was something else, like an extra member, we would have still not been happy but at least we wouldnt be kidding ourselves. But now it's like "we know you guys wanted all original members, so here is Blast Off", get lost!

So where do those feet and hands come from? They look so much better. Are they the Perfect Effect add-ons?
That's good to know. I planned on doing the same. Except I'm getting 2 black sets, because I think the black looks better on Superion. Strangely, I like that all-white Op Max. We can expect Bruticus to get a gray/silver set, correct?Autobot032 wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:So where do those feet and hands come from? They look so much better. They are indeed and they're fantastic. Well worth the $33.00. (You can get them cheaper at Scramblecore, though.) Absolutely worth the purchase. So much so, I ended up buying a color set that matches all three combiners so far.
Black for Defensor, Purple for Menasor and white for Superion as it should be. Although my Superion set had a very strong odor when they came out of the box. It was from the paint and it's dissipated, but it was there at first.

What makes sense to me is Blast Off being an attack vehicle like his teammates, rather than a craft which primarily operates in orbit. If Takara makes a space shuttle Blast Off, I'll try to get it. If they don't, I won't shed any tears for what could have been. Ditto for Hasbro's offering getting a new head. I speculated on that because the only pictures of him we have are a computer render and a literal repainted Quickslinger. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm not ruling it out as a possibility either. I still think legends Groove makes sense, but deluxe Groove looks like a good toy as well.
Now yes, "sense" and "transformers" have historically not been synonymous, and they still aren't, but you seem to be painting me as someone who harbors false hopes, which I am not. I'm easy to please. Combiner Wars has pleased me, more or less. I don't claim complete immunity to mold reuse, because yes, even I'm annoyed at the extent of it, but I'm also satisfied by the combiners we've got. Maybe I don't feel it as much because my only combiner right now is a Superion with Dragstrip filling in for Fireflight. Point is, unlike Ultra Magnus, I can deal with it. Except for "Betatron". That can go burn.
RAR wrote:I have Optimus, I have Grand Scourge on order, and I anticipate I'll see a White Optimus on the shelf by October around here. Yet I still don't have any Combiner limbs - I really must do something about that.
Oh and considering that Groove is white I'd be interested to see if you can jam groove in to White Optimus' chest cavity or not as that might look better than Rodimus does perhaps.
