I hear you, but we also thought that there were always way too many Autobots available per Decepticon (both Bumblebee and Optimus being autobots helps that) and yet every fan poll thus far has resulted in the masses asking for more autobots. I think in your case, the collectors got the silverbolts but the masses will eventually buy those optimuses. I still remember the week before Christmas when I went to toysrus and saw all the parents stripping the shelves of the smash and change optimus which until that point had been shelfwarming. I really think what you mentioned is more a case of two portions of the market and their buying tendencies rather than Optimus being less of a selling point than he used to be.
There's a reason he can't stay dead.

I don't believe in "character over saturation" if anything hasbro should watch out for transformers over saturation with multiple toylines clamouring for attention.

I barely had any Mini-Cons but I happen to have Nightcruz and Nightscream from Rapid Run (Energon) out on the table, and I can confirm that it does work! The male pegs on Megatron all have hollow centers to allow the pins inside the Mini-Con female port to enter. The female ports on Megatron don't have any pins so it accepts anything 5mm.

Are these the widely accepted terms for pegs?

Yeah male/female are widely used. In electrical and mechanical trades and manufacturing, each half of a pair of mating connectors or fasteners is conventionally assigned the designation male or female. The "female" connector is generally a receptacle that receives and holds the "male" connector.

Yeah, it is a little less...awkward...to call them pegs and ports. Yet, as said before, and I'll add the IT industry, they are frequently referred to as male and female connections. It gets really confusing when talking about VGA and Serial connections as when saying male, does it mean the posts in the VGA connector or the overall connector. [Edit] In essence, is the one on the left or right in the pic below the male end? The posts are on the left, but the outside grounding shield accepts the entirety of the connector on the right. I believe the one on the left is actually considered female and the one on the right is male. Confusing, I know.[/edit]albnok wrote:william-james88 wrote:albnok wrote:Metro Prime wrote:Aren't they Mini-Con compatible? I remember seeing some stock photos to that effect.

I have no idea! In fact I didn't realize that Mini-Cons were meant to do that to Armada Megatron, since I only started collecting seriously from Energon onwards, and very few Mini-Cons. TFWiki is inconsistent where they call it port/peg hole/hole for what I call 'female port' and post/peg for what I call 'male peg'.

Apparently, he's carrying Superion's head in his robowomb.

This is a similar aspect of the old minicon connectors from Armada. Are they male or female...or both...

Very rudimentary edit from the earlier photoshoot:
Sure he's just a bit shorter than MP-10 but he still feels right with these tall guys. My only real problem with him is that he feels like Leader class Jetfire - Masterpiece-sized, but not as solid and weighty. At least they covered up most hollow parts, unlike Jetfire!
