He could even have been retooled as Afterburner for Computron or Somethin.

So you're simply mad that Rook isn't Groove then is what I gather? The point I'm driving at is that it's perfectly fine be upset that he's not G1 enough for you, but you can't possibly know whether or not it's "a good figure" as you've not handled it.MGrotusque wrote:It's not that I don't like him it's just that if you went that far with making a bike for the team than why not go all the way and make it a limb bot and and keep an original team member? You just need to scale him up and do some retooling. Then now you got the whole gang back together. Make the new guy the chest shield canon fodder mini bot.shajaki wrote:But... how do you know? Or do you mean you just don't like him?MGrotusque wrote:....because honestly Rook is not a good figure..
While it is nothing more than a pile of speculation, if you follow the current CW business model TakaraTomy will likely release a more G1 looking Defensor with (you already guessed it) the also likely Technobot Afterburner retooled. Which you never know, Hasbro could release on it's own down the line as well.MGrotusque wrote:He could even have been retooled as Afterburner for Computron or Somethin.

Secret Auxiliary Reserve, story behind it is after becoming so badass, you retire, but still have the ability to become part of the Gestalt team.

I think people are forgetting that this isn't G1. There's a lot of "this isnt right" or "it doesnt make sense" when a new charcter is introduced. But this is the generations line, and its only inspired by previous generations, not an exact copy like Masterpiece. And we are actually super lucky this time because Takara (and Hasbro, so far) are actually helping us get that extra G1 feel by giving us the older members if we so desire. I get that some configurations may irk some people, since I too found a helicopter among a bunch of jets to not be my thing. But that's just because of the theme and the look, not because it HAD to be G1. Lets not kid ourselves, this isnt G1, it's Combiner Wars.
If people are upset that there is a new character on the team, why arent they as upset that Motormaster doesnt have a trailer. He should, it's how his G1 toy works, and its the reason he has that signature box around his head. Him not having a trailer makes the combiner wars Menasor not G1 at all (and also renders his box head totally unnecessary and dumb). So even if Hasbro and takara give us a wild-rider (called Brake-neck, another obstacle to things being perfectly G1), Motormaster isn't G1.
Quick question: which is more G1, Takara or Hasbro's Menasor? NONE! Neither are their G1 incarnations. Motormaster doesnt have a trailer in either and both require a perfectionist to buy a third party head for Menasor to look like he did on the show.
This doesnt sound like a perfect G1 toy to me and thus while these combiners are made anew for this new generation of toys and fans, I do not see why changing one of 5 characters is any different to significantly changing deco, style and alt modes. I have G1 Defensor and will always have him, owning this new interpretation will be awesome and doesnt take away anything from the G1 toy or character. Instead it shows the evolution of the Defensor character as a toy throughout the ages, changing in look, style, engineering, transformation and components. And if I really want a perfect G1 redo of the original toy, I will just wait for the masterpiece.
Generations isn't the line to replicate the G1 toys or cartoon models perfectly and I have made peace with that from day one. And for all those who havent made peace with that, why arent you clamoring for Hasbro to release the properly named Target Master to go with Gen Scoop? Is no one out there angry at the fact that they gave him Slugslinger's targetmaster instead? No? So why is this different all of a sudden?!

Well, to be fair, that's part of why I'm sticking with these guys:

I don't like Hasbro's Motormaster, in part because of the lack of trailer, and I also don't like how the gestalt looks.
(I'm normally all about Hasbro over third parties if Hasbro came first, but if the third party came first and Hasbro's doesn't seem an improvement over it to me, I am content to stick with what I've got.)
That being said, I do like Combiner Wars overall, and don't hate the existence of the new guys. Especially if the old guys are still an option... thanks, Takara! But, as much as I'd rather not have Alpha Bravo, if Slingshot had never been an option, I suppose I'd have gotten used to him.
So, no Combiner Wars Menasor for me. Or Devastator for that matter. And I suspect I shall also remain content with the Bruticus I have. But I so look forward to any others! Can't wait until June, when I shall likely be starting to get them, judging by the dates on my pre-orders.
(I do have a few of the Legends, though. Bombshell and Powerglide are awesome! And while I may not be interested in any of the other Stunticons, Blackjack is cool as a stand alone figure!)
So yeah, it may not always have as much fidelity to G1 as I may like for my "Classics" style collection, but overall Combiner Wars is a kick-arse toy line with awesome toys, and I don't get the hate that some seem to have for it just because it isn't exactly 100% what they would have done. Hey, we're getting official Scramble City style combiners again! Who'd have thought we'd ever see the day? Revel in it, my friends!
