I still think Primal might be my favorite.... but Megs is damned close. I do find it interesting that for the most part the old ultra toys are nearly the same figures. Wish I had an original Megatron. Something about it bugged me back in the day.... maybe it was the gimmicks?

I could go with them removing electronics all together. MP Wheeljack is a perfect figure to me, he didnt cost that much. he was double the price of a voyager toy and you got at least double the toy you'd get at that size in terms of complexity, parts, paint, everything.

And yes, they are similar to their ultra toys (megs moreso than optimus of course) and I think its because in both cases, they have 2 limbs that are the same from one mode to the next. So if you start with that and work backwards for a transformation, they cant be entirely different. I did find Optimus Primal had a lot of new tricks up his sleeve though (the back of the thighs becoming shins, the back rotating 180, the robot chest coming from the beast belly)

I think I preffer Megs simply because he is more imposing.

I like the light up eyes, but I’m not too excited about the Japanese voice clips. Of course, if the voice clips were in English, I’d be all over it.

Primal has some fun mass shifting. Megs just feels like his skin folds up behind him and he straightens out. Which is by no means a knock against him. Refreshing after Cheetor and Dinobot. Would love to see them take a crack Lio Convoy or Big Convoy tbh

We might need to revise our policy to post news about breakage issues until more information is available in the future, or at least when English speaking fans get a figure in-hand so we can get a better understanding of what's happening. No offense to the news staff, our all-volunteer team from around the world does an absolutely stellar job. Just think we might have jumped the gun on this one with limited information. It's sometimes challenging to know when we should do a "buyers beware" news story initially or if we need to have patience until more information comes forth.

The stress marks are a common issue near the pins. My copy had them and they are in the same spot as we see in the initial article we posted and I mention them in the site's review of the figure:

I did see stress marks around the pins though, but I do not think they will get worse if I pay attention.

Here is another pic of those stress marks:

Image

As for the broken crotch, there has been another report since then but the piece was found like that even before the customer transformed the figure. So it was broken (at the exact same spot) right out of the package:

Image

And here is another broken crotch:

Image

So both areas mentioned in the initial article proved to not be isolated cases and gave us an indication of areas that may be more fragile. The fact that everyone knew of these and transformed this toy so delicately that some don't want to transform it back may be why we haven't seen more breakage reported.

And here's yet another breakage report:
Image

So I can regrettably confirm the breakage issue on his crotch. I noticed this morning that a crack has formed.

Due to the reports of breakage I was even holding my thumb against the crotch anytime I moved the legs to provide counter pressure when I was messing with him. And given that I didn't notice this last night despite watching for it, I'm honestly wondering if the crack didn't form just standing on my table in robot mode overnight.

I think the combination of the metallic swirl in the plastic and its relative thinness just makes it too fragile. And I say this as somebody who's exceedingly careful with his toys; I mean, cripes, I've had a G2 Electro that's survived for over 20 years.

Luck of the draw, I'd say. The crotch piece looks sturdy and no cheaper plastic than the rest of the legs or Bot torso.

Good lord he is big! Yeah, I've seen everybody's in hand pics, but damn, you really don't get the size of him till you hold him in hand!

My crotch looks good (calm down Burn, I'm talking about Megatron), but I have literally only taken him out of the box, I haven't attempted transformation yet, and probably wont until tomorrow.

Wonder what colors the “toy” version will come in to work in the “alien mask” (though for the life of me I can’t remember what it looked like). Always liked toy dinobot’s head. Seemed more faceplate-y to me

I'd love to see a Masterpiece G2 "GREEN" Tank Megatron ... or a Walmart exclusive G2 "GREEN" Tank Megatron mold done in G1 colors with a G1 box. That would be really awesome.

I would love both of those, but for the Walmart reissue I'd go with "Hero" tank Megatron in silver to be a little closer to the G1 Op reissue.

Anyway, nice surprise, I passed the DHL truck on my way home around 6pm and my MP Beast Megatron arrived three days early! He's pretty phenomenal and super easy to transform. The back panels are intimidating, but I think they're the type of part that will move easier after a few transformations without breaking, just need to loosen up those pins. Had the same stress marks everyone else has but no real fears of breakage. The one part that gave my issue is the part of the torso that slides out and back in, it was completely locked up which apparently is a common issue. After a frightening amount of force I was able to unlock the slide and it works fine now. I really enjoy how much of the figure actually transforms like the original figure, it was a little comforting. Just a great figure all around.

I do question the use of swirly plastic only in the crotch and thighs where the rest of the figure is solid colored plastic. It's unpredictable over time and could be the reason for all the crotch breaks. I realize it's mostly gold plastic that is the issue, but I do fear what this figure will be like in 20 years.

I notice everyone has had the same issue I did with the torso slide. To be honest that was a far greater concern than stress marks. Far too much force is needed to open the thing...

I don't think there will be a Toy Megatron redeco. Primal's Toy Version had precedent, as it existed with the Beast Wars 2 special: "Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!". Megatron only existed as he stands with MP-43. Unless they de-make his right arm and give the head some new clips for the Mutant Mask, I'd say he stands as definitive as Cheetor or Dinobot.

As for the Mutant Mask...

My bw megs only had one half of the mutant mask, so instead of removing it (like I probably should of) I head cannoned it as a mask to hide damage that he received in a fight.

He was the only BW Megatron figure I didn't own. I had Gator Megatron, TM Megatron and even TM 2 (the one I really didn't like). Never had Barney though. I don't remember him being particularly available at the time, and in hindsight, the tail arm is a mess thanks to the gimmick.

Nice ;)^

I had just the one, for many years. Then one day his leg fell off the pin at the waist and the pin was bald :???: . No idea how it had stayed in place for as long as it did.

I successfully transformed MP-43 Beast Megatron this morning. I really only had one panel on his arm/tail that absolutely would not budge. I finally just forced the panel to snap into the "flayed" out position so that I could move his left arm out of the tail. I totally thought it broke when I heard it snap finally, but fortunately it didn't!

Only thing I don't like about the figure is that the waist just freely spins. Now I understand why the guy made a helicopter video out of Beast Megatron.

I noticed a couple stress marks in some of the tabs. If there are any and I'm concerned about them, I'll just boil some water and fix the stress marks. I'm not concerned about little stress marks near the pins or tabs. Easy to fix.
