Part of me just hopes they chill with the 'gimmicks' while I still feel the combiner wars/titan returns were relatively un-obtrusive. It'd be nice to get back to interesting transformations/designs w/o constraints of "features".

Got the first wave deluxes today! They're lots of fun. The dinobots are awesome. Slug and Swoop are probably the only "must haves." DW is cool, but Jazz is a bit disappointing. The only saving grace is the interplay with CW figures (I think this is possible). Can't wait for the rest of the Dinobots!

I should take a picture of Jazz with the rest of the season 1 CW figures. I think he fits in well with them. Could he have been a "better" Jazz figure, sure, but considering the CW/trilogy aesthetic I feel he's fine. (Same goes with the Dinobots)

Man, Starscream is relly the only nice thing I'm seeing in this line. In terms of style and design, Jon Warden and his team have taken huge steps in the wrong direction. They're making Armada toys look real nice right now.

We have recently seen in-hand images of the latest figures from Hasbro's Transformers Power of the Primes line, as shown in Hong Kong and Shanghai events with fans of the toys and the franchise - but thanks once more to YouTuber Kevin Liu - who first brought us looks at the Dinobots, Volcanicus and Starscream - , we have a full review (in Mandarin) for the first of the two Leader class characters in the first wave: Optimus Prime, evolving from Orion Pax!

The full video can be seen embedded below, but we've also included a couple of screenshots for those unable to watch right away, showing the truck mode for both parts of the figure, the robot modes, the evolution gimmick, the Matrix feature, and the ion blaster, plus comparisons with other iterations of the same character, including MP10 and Age of Extinction Evasion Mode. Check it all out!

i really do like this optimus prime i get the evolution thing
but i wish they could have made that orion pax a separate figure and turn into a cybertronian vehicle of some sorts

Kind of dissapointed Orion Pax is so big. I had intentions to display him with TFCC Dion and Takara Energon Ariel. Still a cool figure in his own right, but wish the alt mode was cybertronian. And I hate the poor man's MP-10 mode. They should have done something more chuggish where the trailer turned into a base of some kind. I get the whole evolution thing but when you say screw scale the whole concept is already f**ked. On the flip side I will welcome the almost voyager sized Hot Rod who will make a good Rodimus scale wise without using the super duper trailer combo mode.

Anybody else have to keep reminding themselves that these toys are just that: toys? Primarily designed for little children, and any efforts to the collector are secondary. I've been way to spoiled by the high end market.


Anyway, my initial thoughts: I passed on Dreadwind, as it just did nothing for me.

Swoop is actually an amazing figure. I'm happily keeping him.

Jazz and Slag are both horrible figures. In thier case, the combiner gimmick has greatly limited them. That, and they just look bad. I gave both figures to my kids, (I was going to use them as christmas gifts, i gave in and opened them) and they have already broken them in small ways.

The durability quality of Hasbro toys continues to go down.

Sure, Orion Pax may be a bit too big for a standard Generations display. but he look pretty awesome and the whole package is MAGNIFICENT. Enough for me to forgive the iffy cab mode.

As soon that I see this Optimus in store, I'll buy it. Full price without hesitation.

Surprise good figure in combined mode ok truck mode but showing articulation wwaste of time all leader class deluxe class toys have same movements I skipped past those parts will not buy it

I do, but it doesn't bother me because I've never gotten to put any money into masterpiece or third party figures. So, all in all, there is a certain 'zen' mentality to it, at least for me: accepting these figures for what they are and even finding the fun in them. I've only started collecting as an adult (last time I got a figure as a kid was during Beast Machine) and very little bothers me about the toys I get because they are that, toys, and not a collector display piece like something from lines such as S.H. Figuarts or Revoltech.

They are not the same thing and all I need to remind myself is that its fine and look at the more positive aspects of toys: more affordable and, generally, much more fun to just handle and mess with when bored. I'd never, for example, try to 'transform' (or rather parts-form) my Gunbuster when bored because that thing is a fragile, old revoltech with removeable parts but I sure do love to fiddle with Triggerhappy and his two Targetmaster friends (and remold).

Now I'm sure third party transforming figures can accomplish both role as display piece and transforming action figure but these remain a mystery to me, despite coming very close to buying Perfect Effect Beast Gorira.

I prefer CHUGs simply for the playability factor.

I'm not crazy about the alt mode for Op, but at $110 less than the MP, I'll live.

Skritz -- I didn't go 3P for awhile either, but the ones I did get, the quality was fairly high. They are generally cheaper than MPs, but the quality will vary by company.

Beside Beast Gorira (who I'll forever regret not buying), 3P figures just haven't struck my fancy all that much. Most exist to fill a niche of a high-end version of G1 figures, either as a Masterpiece 'count as' or a high-end combiner team. While I missed on Combiner Wars, that itch just isn't big enough to spend a ton of cash on.

The rest seem to be mostly IDW comic designs and I'm just not enough of a fan of these comics to bother. The only IDW character I'd really want a figure of is a proper Nova Prime but all those I like are quite costly. Steel Lucifer looks great but is just too small for my tastes, from the looks of it. I'm aware for many people, IDW has become the be-all-end-all of the Transformers brand but I'm just not really into it all that much.

We have Optimal to look forward to with PotP; but you could probably find the G1 incarnation loose & cheap. I got mine for just under $20 (missing arm shields, gun).

My favorite 3P is definitely from the IDW comics, but I dug Tarn's design before even knowing who he was....but he fit in nicely with our official figures.I'm eager to see Leader Primal on his hoverboard in-color soon....

Why do mp-10's arms look so dumb lol.

I still got my old Optimal Optimus, its just it annoy me I didn't have the guts to commit to a Masterpiece-level figure and ending up with the PotP version which I know will in many aspect end up as a downgrade. Or it could surprise me, who knows? Sure its a fact he'll be smaller and far less bulky or heavy.

Also dude, you're going to offend people by calling a Beast Wars toy a 'G1' figure. You'll get burned at the stake by purist who are still screaming 'trukk not munkkie'.

Anyways, I would love to have a Megatron to go with Optimal Optimus if we get more Beasties later on. All I can think of is how Hasbro could mix the designs he has (S1, Transmetal, and TM2).

Hah! That's true.

G1 to me ended in 1989, or 1990 if I'm feeling generous -- but I've acknowledged that "G1" has broadened its scope a bit, so I've adjust my head-canon as well....but I'm admittedly new to all the monkey business involving Beast Wars and beyond.

If I'm being even more strict as a purist, I'd say "G1" died with Optimus Prime in The Movie, making Rodimus, Unicron, etc. my "G2"....

You're just pushing your bias of disliking season 3 as some excuse to say 'its not the same show' as G1. That movie and the third season are very much part the same toyline, same show and were made by the same people. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not part of the G1 lineup. That is about as valid as me saying, for example, that Beast Hunters is not 'really' part of Transformers Prime or that anything from Age of Extinction is not 'really' part of the Bayverse. This is not the same as Beast Machine, for example, which had a different staff and was a soft reboot on the story and basically had little understanding of what came before.

Generation 1 functionally ended, brand-wise, when Generation 2 was a term coined for their first attempt a reboot which is where we got the term G1 to begin with. Now I'm sure we could argue that the japanese line and post cartoon and 'euro G1' may very well constitute a G1.5 so to speak which I'd very much agree.

Unless your excuse for saying season 3 isn't G1 is that its when they started making their own toy designs rather than just importing Diaclone. That would certainly be a more valid statement than simply saying 'G1 ended because I didn't like that part of it'.

Edit: I should point out that, as angry as this make you, I do consider Beast Wars to be part of G1. But not being G1. There is a difference. They are very much set within the same universe and continuity but these series and toylines are separated by a time gap but in universe and out universe.

You know, I still prefer MP-10 for almost everything, but I kinda like the stockier proportions on PoP Prime. Plus the grey bit fill out his color scheme a bit more. I'm not saying it's perfect, but if I were to fan-canon this figure, I'd use it as a clone of Optimus à la A Prime Problem or an alternate universe version of Prime. Still not gonna buy it when it hits shelves, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying him on clearance.

BTW we need a Dion with Ultra Magnus armor repaint please.

Well, one thing is certain: that Optimus is going in my collection as my G1 Optimus Prime (and Orion Pax, as a bonus!). I mean, the only Optimus I got beside that who aren't Optimus Primal is the War for Cybetron Optimus who is:
1) Too small.
2) Not an earth-mode Optimus.
Don't get me wrong, I dig that figure but it just doesn't fill that niche of a boxy semi-truck Optimus Prime.

Hi. This is the first time responding on this board, been lurking for years.
Now, I don't know if this has ever come up and I still need to figure out the forums and such, but I was wondering what is going on with potp prime's feet. Mp10 has normal ones, his look like they're floating. Is that a result of the amalgamation of Pax and trailer?
Also just want to say that I'm glad I finally took the plunge and joined

I don't like the red on top of the trailer. Sadly, I get less interested in everything above legends scale the more I see of it. I think the only one that will I will buy for myself is RU. He looks like a pimp. Then I'll get the rest of the stuff from the Takara legends/UW line. There are too many disappointments with Hasbro, no weapons for voyagers, odd paint choices, and difficulty with availability.

Starscream has weapons, and besides, these are wave 1 for next year, they shouldn't really even be available for another month or so, so this is just a happy coincidence. Besides, the pre-orders are up on every site, and they seem to indicate that the voyagers have some sort of soft street date or delayed shipment for December, ergo, they can't be 'difficult' to obtain, if they aren't even out yet
