I'm gonna go with it being like D-Void where the middle dude combines with random generics to become the bigger dude. Kinda looks like D-Void anyway.

*GASP* My heart...
Universe 2003 was not a Generations-style line in the least. It was nothing more than a redeco line, made to meet demand after the success of Armada the year prior. It did have some G1 characters returning, but still as mere redecos. Grimlock and Swoop were to be the first original molds for the line (and were not designed by TakaraTomy, hence them looking a bit "off"), but they were moved to Energon to keep the combination gimmick in a single line.
So, how's the Rippersnapper mold holding out?

The designs are getting more and more human/G1 Crosshairs/Drift/Hound and Barricade would like to say hello.
Actually these designs do look a lot like movie designs probably helps that Prime's aesthetics were partially inspired by the movies.

They used that mold twice in AOE as well, both times as Grimlock. One was a Walmart exclusive and the other was sold at discount stores (Family Dollar, Big Lots, et al).

So at least this time they're two different characters.
I'm definitely going to buy the new set, though I'm not crazy about the new guy not having a proper alt mode. Does that make him a "Torso Master" or something?

Ever since the G1 Abominus I was kind of miffed that Rippersnapper never had an opening mouth. He was one of the coolest of the lot, and an articulated jaw would have made him even more awesome. The TF Prime remake was a bitter disappointment.
Here's hoping they get it together for the rumored Abominus combiners coming for War of the Primes....

That would be a nice mechanic for these movies. The background grunts aren't even sort of threatening, even in numbers, but if they can be a combiner piece out of nowhere that raises the stakes!

Also, the left arm guy's arm mode is just lazy, wish they would have improved that with the new line. All this aside, he looks pretty cool, just hope that the new mold actually has it's own individual alt-mode.

He could have one that's just simply not being shown on the package just like with Laser Prime and Quickswitch on the Titans return boxset not showing additional forms.

I wonder if it's Crossed Hasbro's mind that they already have 2 of these as Deluxes in existence ? - not that I want to be charged a premium for them - but they'd repaint OK as some sort of boxed set content perhaps even if they never made the rest of them officially - but the KO's are pretty decent and it as I've said previously be a fun little project to repaint the KO's to look like this.
I've always liked the Terrorcons - heck I have the DLX Overscale versions sitting with the TR beast-bots right now.
If they want to flesh out the line with some Dragons they could use the Japanese versions of the moulds as dinobot grey dragon like repaints to do too I guess. I not mind the Prime Predacons (dragons) decorated like the Movie Dinobots in the slightest especially with the newer heads.

Deluxe Wave 1:
Barricade
Bumblebee 1
Slash
Berserker
Deluxe Wave 2:
Drift
Sqweeks
Slug
Steelbane
Wave 3:
Bumblebee 2
Crosshairs
Strafe
Voyager Wave 1:
Optimus Prime
Grimlock
Voyager Wave 2:
Hound
Megatron
Wave 3:
Scorn
Bumblebee 3
Megatron is a Deluxe and Nitro could fit into either class; regardless, both of them can't fit into the leaked list at the same time, so I think it's safe to say at least 4 waves confirmed
