I think Last Stand of the Wreckers is where this series changed for me. It stopped being a fun, childish comic and suddenly became a serious and dark world whith a smiley face painted over it.

I now have a new Holy Grail to get. G1 Overlord. I thought G1 Scorponok was expensive at 400$. A 100% complete overlord is 700$ at the base minimum!![]()
sigh...
I haven't priced Original Series Transformers in a long time, but alas I have Owned Overlord at two different times in the past. I had the European release first. I sold that and got the Japanese release and had it for a while before selling my entire collection back in 2007...
I was just curious if you were specifically looking at the Japanese D-307, or the European release? -The toy is the same for both, its just the Box and instructions/inserts that are different....For some reason the European one was always a bit less expensive, but that may not be the case now.

Sorry to brag, but I gotta' flaunt it a little. I have both versions of Overlord and the blues are slightly different, or the purples--can't remember--- I don't have them standing next to each other right now, but I know that they are different. Otherwise, no, no new paint apps., no different accessories...boxes are different though. Nothing else that I remember.
I don't think that the designated European version shows up as much as the Japanese version, but maybe it does because I'm not really looking anymore.

Without the boxes, who would know the difference on first glance? For that matter, who would actually care aside from the appraisers?

No problem happy to help![]()
I have a few more pics here. Its God Bomber attached to the Hasbro Magnus Prime. And a height comparison with Overlord.
That reverse ab crunch came real handy
Terrsolpix wrote:Damn you! I told myself i don't need it, but now it looks like I'll be ordering it soon..... Can you get a good shot of the shin panels and godbomber's feet next to eachother under some good lighting though? I'm curious a second to how different they are without shadows.
Let me share my G1 Overlord experience perhaps as a cautionary tale. Overlord was a figure I had wanted since I was a kid, until 2012 when I finally had a complete Overlord in my possession. I got him piece by piece over a 6 month period. I got everything separately. The jet, the tank, Mega, Giga, the weapons, everything. Every 2 weeks when I got paid I would buy a piece, regardless of the price. When he was completed, I was elated. For about 2 days. When the euphoria of finally having the Grail I have wanted for 20 years wore off, I realized what G1 Overlord really was: an inarticulate brick. Yes, that can be said about a lot of G1/G2 figures, but for some reason I expected Overlord to be more. But I was disappointed. I left him on the shelf for a while, after all, I got him to be displayed, but even there he felt like an eye sore. He didn't scale with Ginrai, or any other figure, except maybe G1 Scorponok or G2 Megatron. So I ended up selling him, and I haven't regretted it.-Kanrabat- wrote:I said that I will never have G1 Overlord due to his price.
Overlord towers over even God Ginrai in robot mode, despite Overlord being bigger in Masterforce. It's just not accurate and that always bothered me. The new TR figure looks like it will be better standing next to both the G1 and TR versions of Powermaster Prime. And the articulation is much better, along with little to no parts-forming.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Rodimus, I've seen them photographed together so I'm curious as to why you don't think G1 Overlord and Ginrai scale with each other. Admittedly by cartoon standards as well with God Ginrai (since the animators gave that combo the same sort of Super Mushroom Devastator et al usually got) admittedly, but otherwise he's reasonably in scale with the Masterforce toys. Among which, well... Funny you should bring up G1 Scorponok, considering.

If that's all they can think of to do with them, then maybe they should hold raffles. To say something that's on topic with this thread, I believe I saw the Deluxe class Transformer that turns into an alligator or something at Target.
No, they are re-creating a scene from a comic book where Overlord stomps Pipes.
And still that's the most brutal thing in the IDW series
Ummm... Didn't the DJD electrocute and melt a guy before forcing him to eat his own brain?
Let's not forget the Skids flashback where Tarn tricked him into slowly melting a bunch of Autobot prisoners; talking about how he doesn't believe in a Heaven but he does believe "Hell exists" while making Skids watch.
This franchise's tone has really gone far since the days of Optimus Prime playing basketball with Spike.

That's just it. Overlord wasn't fun to play with at all. Not for me anyway. His arms and legs don't bend, and IIRC his waist doesn't move. He can't be posed, his only play value is changing him from bot to base. And that gets boring after a few times. So the only other purpose he served was being displayed. But the problem with that was that he was out of scale with his contemporaries. I mean, this is just my opinion, you might find him enjoyable. I just wanted to bring up my experience to make sure you weren't looking at him with nostalgia glasses and then regretted the 100s of dollars you spent on a complete Overlord.-Kanrabat- wrote:I'm the guy who LOVE his vintage robots, especially if they are FUN to play with.
Kurona wrote:As long as we're talking about regrets and Titans Return, I guess I'll say my biggest Transformers regret is buying Legends Arcee on sale. She's a very good recreation of the original design... but it's a pretty terrible design, and that face just looks awful.

In fact, her design for me seems to shout permanently "80'S".
Technically, it's not a bad design, it's just so.. vintage. so eigthies, from the color, the take on "feminine looking" etc..
His head could rotate, at least, which not many G1 toys could do.Rodimus Prime wrote:That's just it. Overlord wasn't fun to play with at all. Not for me anyway.
