Tell that to Hasbro (again), since the current team doesn't seem to care about that anniversary (only TFTM's 30th anniversary is getting any attention from them, leaving it to only Takara and Fun Pub to care about Beast Wars this year).

To be fair though, their homage to the 30th anniversary of the film is not all that great.

I'd be fine with a Wrecker style Kup for my shelf as long as he's light on Kibble and has that color scheme.

My big fear is that they'll go with the 86 toy color scheme on the Hasbro release and I'll have to snag another Takara.

Ah, but you're forgetting about the best toy everybody super-duper loves.
Ah yes, a Beast Machines mold released in the RiD 2001 line painted up in G1 colors w/ a Peter Cullen impersonator sound gimmick. Totally counts as "caring about [the Beast Wars] anniversary". #-o

Though, that toy was Hasbro Asia's doing, no Hasbro proper.

Just curious, is there a precedent for making a toy of a comic only character that is no longer in the comics? Scrounge I guess, but he wasnt released on his own and was just a redeco with a new head and an enlarged hole.

Why does this even need a precedence? I think Hasbro (and therefore, we) gets too hooked up on who's around for cross promoting. What's wrong with just making awesome looking robot toys? Hasbro used to do this all the time ranging from the late stages of G1 all the way through AEC. Then somewhere around Animated they got fixated on only doing characters they could cram onto a cartoon or comic. Just think of all the great Beast Wars figures we would have missed out on if all they cared about were the ones they could fit on the show! They still do this for the movie lines with completely unknown characters as the recent top list pointed out, why should Generations be any different? And it makes more sense in this case since we're talking about characters IDW is already promoting. Who cares if a character is already dead, dead Marvel and DC superheroes and villains are made into figures all the time.

However, him being a pretender turned into a figure with a titan master means that the next phase wont be a redo of pretenders.

I don't think there was any chance of that happening anyway. More likely they'd do something they can incorporate into multiple size classes like Targetmasters or Powermasters.

Still, there's no reason why Sky Shadow/Thunderwing can't still be Pretenders. The shell can have a Titan Master head and a Legends figure can be stored inside the body that can become a vehicle for the TM. If I'm not mistaken the TM doesn't actually control the body, but rather grant additional powers so the robot inside the shell would still be controlling the shell the same way the other characters keep control of their bodies.

Incidentally, the biggest differences I see between Wreckers Kup and G1 toon are how round a few pieces are (legs and shoulders especially), a few proportions, and the shape of the plate his faction logo is on.

So I think a compromise between the two would be ridiculously easy and not unlike the sculpt on a lot of other toys.

That's pretty much what I'd expect. But a toon accurate deco is going to be an IDW accurate deco as well. It's really only the largely monochrome grey G1 toy deco that would be an alternative.

I guess Hasbro could skew green/grey and Takara could skew carnival taffy teal. Either could be toon and comic accurate since both IDW comics and cartoons have used both colorations based on lighting.

But if they go toy accurate, they'd be going a hint of teal, a smaller hint of sky blue, and a lot of dull grey that's closer to red/pink grey on the light spectrum than blue. Like, grey from the waist down, maybe all grey arms. In keeping with the solid Scourge and Blurr decos we've seen lately. He'd just be a big hunk of reddish grey with a dark blue chest and some sky blue kibble.

My one requirement for Kup (and its not much) is that his chest isnt fake (like the classics toy). Thus I forsee them reusing the template used in Blur, which is fine.

Much as I want representations of my favourite characters first (WHERE IS THE NAUTICA), I gotta agree with you here, yeah. I love it when they do new characters just for the sake of having a cool toy. We still got that in TFP with the likes of Rumble and Hot Shot; and most recently we got Offroad, Rook and Alpha Bravo in CW. The latter two of which I have and adore. Now obviously those three examples happened basically so Hasbro could do mold re-uses instead of making a completely new Motorcycle mode and risk making their waves boring to kids by having too many planes or cars, but the end result is still that we got new characters out of them and they're fun toys - especially in Rook's case where outside of Timelines/Takara exclusive stuff, he can do a lot of things due to his unique molding from Swindle/Hound.

tl;dr - bring on new characters and toys

Real reason is probably because 1. They have 2 currents lines at the moment RID and Titans Return. these two have been in the planning for about a year and half before release. And 2. We just got over the past years a new rhinox, Rattrap, and Waspinator and and pretty rad retool of black arachnia before that a couple others. Beast wars toys don't really need redone. They still hold up. I just got Transmetal Tarantulaus a few months ago due to sins of the wreckers and he's with my misc CHUG shelf. Anything transmetal and after still holds up and they've remade the characters that had kinda cruddy looking figures.

I dunno... there's still a good few characters who'd like new toys.

A heavy Hot Rod retool could also work. And before anyone dismisses the idea, I'll highlight an awesome custom Kup made from Classics Rodimus, oh so many years ago.

I think all four of those still represent the characters just fine. Especially tigatron he still represents the character decently.

Maybe it's just me but I don't just start demanding the next thing. I'm fine with what we get. Overlord and Black Shadow are "revealed" and people are already saying "I want star saber" I don't mean to sound mean and insensitive but it just reminds me of little kids "I want this I want that!" And a parent finally snaps and says "you're not getting anything now" like what would that be like if Hasbro just said "look if you're not happy with what you're getting than were just not going to make this stuff. You get movie toys and RID and that's it" lol I think all the transformer sites would break that day due to the rage.

Oh no, I'm not saying that we need them right now or anything. I'm extremely happy with what we're getting right now; a lot of it is blowing me away and I appreciate it a ton. I'm just saying that eventually I'd like them to re-do the Beast Wars characters, and it's a shame it couldn't be on their 20th anniversary.
Then again... 25th Anniversary would be a little more special and would be all the sweeter to get them then, right? :x

Because Hasbro is a cruel mistress.
I am anxious too. I hope he isn't leaked before he's officially revealed though. It would be cool to see Overlord for the first time in an official display.

I think it would be neat if we got both of his Powermaster dudes as Titanmasters and one could be a stern, neutral classic headsculpt and the other could be deliciously MTMTE.

Actually, many times images are either leaked on purpose, or are leaked by anonymous staff of Hasbro. Not all of them are leaked by hackers or just accidentally ahead of schedule. The ToysRUs Doublecross image on their front page though was most certainly an ahead-of-schedule thing.

I have a very scary though that hopefully won't come true, but in this rather G1 centered line and the lack of anything Beast Wars related coming from Hasbro, who from what I've been hearing is currently being run by G1 enthusiasts (they've given us a few non G1 so they're not completely Geewunners) then I fear that instead we'll get something on the anniversary of Kiss Players. Speaking of, I would like to see a new Autotrooper, and I mean a retail version, not a Botcon exclusive. Imo he and that Kremzeek figure were the only two good things to come out of the Kiss Players line.

What non-G1 stuff has the current brand team given us in Generations? Armada Megatron and...?

The Thrilling 30 stuff like Waspinator, Rhinox, Rattrap, Sky-Byte, and Armada Starscream were from the previous brand team.

What non-G1 stuff has the current brand team given us in Generations? Armada Megatron and...?

The Thrilling 30 stuff like Waspinator, Rhinox, Rattrap, Sky-Byte, and Armada Starscream were from the previous brand team.

G2 is in a weird situation where it both is and isn't G1. G2 redecoes of G1 characters are not terribly inspiring as a non-G1 offering.
Liokaiser is a G1 character. Japanese G1 is still G1.
Tidal Wave is still just a rumor, but if he happens that will make a whole..... *pulls out calculator* two non-G1 figures produced by the current brand team.

In some fairness, the model they're in now where Generations has to have an overlying theme is certainly not helping this. During Gen 1.0 and Thrilling 30, where it was more of a catch-all line, there was more room for toys representing other eras.
