Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

You'll have to let me know as I still have no plans to get the Laser Optimus...although, I really do like both versions. Black Convoy is the one, though. Always has been.
Scourge has the best color scheme yes. Better than Nucleon Quest Super Convoy which started the whole back Prime fad.
But Alas, it seems Scourge will forever be an exclusive of some kind. Though other Walmart exclusives have shown up here they are few and far between.
As to removing the paint of off Laser Prime, have no idea what to use that won't melt the plastic.
The only thing I wish this new scourge had is the chrome. Its missing all the nice chrome of the original.

Not quite. The first "black Optimus" redeco was Onyx Primal in 1996. Then Black Lio Convoy was the first to use the traditional black/gray/teal deco in 1998. There was also a Black Big Convoy in 1999, but his deco was black and gold instead. Car Robots Black Convoy would standardize the Black Lio Convoy deco in 2000, around the same time as the release of a black redeco of G1 Optimus as a Japanese convention exclusive also in 2000. Nucleon Quest Super Convoy didn't come about until 2001, after all of these other black Optimus/Convoy redecos.Overcracker wrote:Nucleon Quest Super Convoy which started the whole back Prime fad.

Wasn't there a TRU Japan exclusive G1 Prime back in the 80s?

It's subtle, but it's the ratio of grey vs. black that makes the difference: RiD Scourge is mostly grey with black accents, while Nemesis Prime is black almost all the way. Problem is, with some molds it's not possible to have a grey robot mode and a black vehicle mode thanks to parts appearing in both. The TR Voyager Prime mold did manage that:

... and I see no real reason for the Legacy mold to be unable to do the same other than mold layout problems.

I'm with you 100% I never pose my figures like this ever. It makes no sense. There's way better poses to show off a figures articulation. You notice the stock photos are never like this nonsense.

I'm betting it was some mandate by some executive who thinks they know better when they really don't. Something like, "All Nemesis Prime decos should look consistent! Nemesis Prime is BLACK, not GRAY!" or something, much like what was the case with Thrilling 30 Jhiaxus being orange instead of yellow, or the recent Studio Series 86 Hot Rod being red like his G1 toys instead of magenta like his cartoon model (as the designers originally made him cartoon-accurate magenta before an order from on high forced the magenta to be changed to red).Autobot N wrote:I was never in the market for Scourge but why does he look more like Nemesis Prime

Their colour schemes are entirely different.
Nemesis Prime is black with teal highlights and red chest since the chest is the alt mode windshield
Scourge is grey with teal highlights and the chest is not red since the chest is not the alt mode windshield.
So while people may still like it and not mind that it isn't the same deco as Scourge usually has, calling it a Scourge deco is just as wrong as saying it's a sleep mode convoy deco.

New Images of Upcoming Leader Class Black Convoy Reveal a Nemesis Prime Deco on a Scourge Body
Posted by william-james88 Fri May 20, 2022 11:17 pm
The toy does have the Scourge faction symbols, which are upside down G2 Autobot symbols, so that adds to the identity crisis a bit. You'll let us know what you think.

On the Left we have what the actual Scourge deco looks like applied to this toy while on the right you have the toy we are getting, which is in typical Nemesis Prime colours.

Does it suck? yeah, kinda, but at the end of the day they really were all just black and teal redeco's for the sake of sales. I think the only reason people are u[set is that one happened to get character development in a cartoon, I have no problem retconning rid scourge as nemesis prime they're basically the same thing

(To clarify, yes not doing the scourge deco is lame, but maybe they're holding him back for the selects line and we're all gonna end up double dipping on him)

Scourge > Clear Red windows, flat grey stickers, decepticon faction symbol.
Black Convoy > Clear Pink windows, metallic stickers, upside down G2 autobot faction symbol.
That's before we even get into sonokong black convoy...
Nemesis prime is pretty much a catch all term at this point, but those two have always been distinct characters and toys, at least in their original incarnation. Different shows, different characters, different decos.
