The serious problems I find when comics write redemption arcs is the general lack of real examination of the perspective of the former villain and the inevitable return to badness they will undergo, usually within a year or two. Magneto, often trotted out as the greatest supervillain/anti-hero of all time, backpedals so much I’ve simply grown to ignore any attempt at seriousness on the part of the most recent writer to re-invent him. Megatron on the other hand absolutely absorbed me.
I don't think it'll happen but I'd be okay if Megatron and Terminus didn't come back from the Functionist Universe.
Not "didn't come back" in the sense that they died, but in the sense that him staying behind to fight the war "the right way," with the one guy at his side whose voice might've made a difference the first time, seems like a very logical jumping off point for the character after his arc came to a conclusion at the end of season 2. Further, it liberates the book - basically everything (except Cyclonus and Tailgate) operated in his orbit in s2, and with his arc at an end that really can't keep happening, but it's hard to imagine him in the series in a reduced capacity because he's frigging Megatron. And I mean, obviously, the pair of 'em would come back for the season finale.
