The Bumblebee movie train has left the station, and we're going to start getting more and more media coverage in the coming months from now on - starting with this Entertainment Tonight short clip behind the scenes, with cast members Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendenborg Jr and John Cena sharing some of their thoughts on the Transformers spin-off movie.

One tidbit we get in particular is the creation of eight versions of the 1967 VW Bug that Bumblebee turns into in the movie, and not really much else in terms of movie trivia or information. Still, take a look below, and share your thoughts in the Energon Pub!

I have nothing but loathing hatred for the Bayverse movies, toys, etc.. But this, I will take my boys to, as this is an actual transforming robot that makes sense and looks like a robot (and one made from a car). Plus it's kids friendly.

Well I finally saw the trailer to Bumblebee and all I can say is too little too late. I don't care or like this TF Universe and frankly I wish Hasbro would have blown this one up and kept the superior IDW comics universe, but the morons who hate smart and intelligent stories that challenge them instead want a bunch of stupid fights that have no meaning got their backwards and fanservice way and I hope they choke on it.

Yes, because what everyone wants on the big screen is Mpreg Scorponok, annoying transsexual gay robots and Bruticus' torso being in love with his right hand. >:oP

Besides, this isn't going to be part of the "Bayverse" technically anyway- unless I'm mistaken this is a reboot of the series. Different story, different cast, different director, different everything. And unless the trailer is incredibly misleading (which I doubt given the very different approach compared to, say, The Last Knight) it should be a really, really good movie.

Actually it's supposed to still be a prequel to the bay movies but I can see hasbro being very clever with it, if it does well of course, and use it to reboot the film franchise.

Also the idw verse ending and this have absolutely nothing to do with each other so saying that this one should have ended while the other lived is pretty pointless and an empty gesture of frustration. I am sad as well that the very very good idw verse is ending but I'm also more than willing to give this a chance.

Repeat after me: I DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS MOVIE! This movie has a lot of things that like but after 5 films I am sick and tied of live action Transformers movies. PERIOD.
They could make a live action film with G1 character designs and any or all the still living voice actors from the cartoon show and I still wouldn't care, because I'm sick of the whole f***ing live action movies and everything that is a part of it.

Also Bumblebee looks and sounds like an awful lot of fanservice and I don't want the Transformers version of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

If Hasbro and Paramount want make me happy then give this version of the Transformers a break for about 5 years. I can't miss it if never goes away and this version of The Transformers needs to go away.

So there are rumoured to be just the four robots in this movie: Bee, Starscream, Barricade, and....? Any suggestions? Prime?

There are now two new rumors regarding the identities of the red car and the jet that looks a lot like a Movie-ized G1 Starscream:

https://www.allspark.com/forums/topic/142801-bumblebee-movie-discussion-in-theaters-21-december-2018/page-25#entry3743218
A fellow that saw a test screening of the film had a couple of things to say about the Decepticon cast- take a grain of salt since nobody knows if it's true, but he does seem legit and isn't a random member from the other board or has a history of bullshitting.

The jet is not Starscream, he doesn't know what the name is as the cut had temp tracks and no names for all of the Decepticons, but the guy is more
of a thug with a deep voice than a classic Starscream personality.

The red car is female and she's the leader figure of the cons, the one that leads the mission and wants to get it actualy done.

Blue car (he thinks its MIGHT be Barricade. some details line up, but again, no names in that cut, sometimes their voices would change too so it's clear even the voice tracks are temporary) is bored of Earth and just wants to kill everything so they can leave.
By "other board", he means TFW2005.

https://www.allspark.com/forums/topic/142801-bumblebee-movie-discussion-in-theaters-21-december-2018/page-25#entry3743234
Like the guy said, no final names or voice tracks in the film, but just the way the jet-guy acted didn't strike him as Starscreamy. Pretty much all dialogue is thug-like trash-talking and overall brutish demeanor. There was no traditional Starscream qualities, and he was clearly fine with following orders from the red car boss.

https://www.allspark.com/forums/topic/142801-bumblebee-movie-discussion-in-theaters-21-december-2018/page-27#entry3743399
Guy has been around since 2006 and has no previous attempts at bullshitting for attention, but yeah, a random claim is a random claim, gotta take it with salt.

He was pretty detailed on his description of the villains, so we'll find out if he was lying as soon as the toys start popping up anyway.

And, something may or may not support one of these rumors, Charlie Adler (who voiced Starscream in the first three films) has Tweeted that he will not be voicing Starscream in this movie:
@charlie_adler are you doing starscream in the new @bumblebeemovie
Sadly no . But I’m sure whoever is doing it is wonderful ! It’s been a wonderful franchise for me for a long time and now some else’s turn !! Break a leg !

Just watching that Seeker transform again, and it struck me (like it did when I first saw the trailer).....I just instinctually think he's Ramjet, not Starscream. *shrug*

Either way, I'm really looking forward to this movie.

Who else is getting a kind and warm vibe from this Bumblebee movie and setting?

I'm so ready for that.

I actually get the feeling this should've been Transformers 1 that kicks off the live action movies.

Anyway, I'm positive and hopefull. Give me a decent movie with my favorite universe characters in it and I'll be super happy.

Don't get me wrong the previous had some great and intense scenes, but it was thin spread and inconsistent. It even shot it's good parts in the foot most of the time with other scenes.

Also from the Paramount Transformers Bumblebee Movie universe, we now move to Barcelona, Spain, and the Centre de Convencions Internacional where CineEurope 2018 is taking place - and thanks to a number of Instagram users attending the event, we get a look at the promotional banner and the cardboard Bumblebee photo op character used to promote the movie at the centre!

You can check them out below, and then head to the Energon Pub discussion thread, where fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade has rounded up some current speculation about the movie, including rumours about Starscream, and the possible Decepticon appearances in the story.

Regarding the rumours for the movie cons, until a name is announced, it can be anything. I dont think personality has anything to do with it.

So... Isn't this still a Bay-Verse movie then? Hmmmm. :GHOST:

Depends how you define a bay verse movie. If it stands on its own, independent of the rest, with characters looking almost nothing like they appear in other films, and with limited explosions (as it seems to be the case), is it still a Bay-Verse movie?

At this point its baiscally the same as saying that the FOC/WFC games takes place in the same universe as the recent RID TV show.

I totally understand what you mean here. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks, man.

Media and entertainment online publication Entertainment Weekly has posted a fairly sizeable piece on the upcoming Bumblebee movie from the Paramount live action Transformers universe, featuring some information we were already aware of, plus some new details via an interview with producer Lorenzo diBonaventura.

In the piece, which you can read in full here, they touch on the idea of moving back on the Bumblebee story, shifting gears into a more 'vulnerable' role and look with the Volswagen beetle car mode, the choice of script and human lead Charlie / Hailee Steinfeld, what it might mean for the future of the movie franchise, and what other characters we're to expect in the movie itself - three Decepticons in total, including the jet who may or may not be Starscream after all. Partnering with our own speculations about the possible success of this new venture, why not join the discussion too, and let us know what you make of this direction for the movies?

“That was probably the most hotly contested thing, simply because: ‘Wow …. um, and the Beetle can go fast? Ooookay,’” di Bonaventura says. “But I’ve screened [a rough cut] three times, and there has not been a single comment from the audience that they didn’t like the fact that we made it the Beetle. The warmth of it certainly helps us, but also, the sheer freshness of it is really fun.”

That shape creates the sense of an under dog, which is a good thing for a hero who is in a strange world, all by himself, trying to find a way home.

“Psychologically, you’re absolutely right,” di Bonaventura says. “It’s kind of funny. A metal guy made out of a Camaro, or Bumblebee … is one is weaker than the other? I don’t know, but it is how you feel. It is what your experience is of it, in a way.”

[...]

“It’s nice it’s changing,” di Bonaventura says, acknowledging that the Transformers films haven’t exactly delivered strong roles for women. “When we were debating it, the idea of a young girl seemed to us to be a real change in our direction.”

And Steinfeld proved to be the fearsome flesh-and-blood lead they needed. “I’m just amazed at how talented she is,” di Bonaventura says. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen an actor never miss a beat for the entire shoot. It was crazy. We ended up ahead of schedule because she was just so on it all the time. We could move quicker.”

[...]

Another change was reducing the sheer number of robots-in-disguise featured in this movie. That allowed screenwriter Christina Hodson to focus on the bond between Charlie and Bumblebee and tell a coming-of-age story at the heart of this epic action adventure.

“She wrote a really beautiful script that really played into the emotion of the relationship of the two,” di Bonaventura says. “So looking at the movie from that perspective, we thought, we don’t want to overwhelm one Autobot with too many Decepticons. So he has three primary antagonists.”

Two others, who take the form of automobiles, are also being kept secret for now.

[...]

Right now, Bumblebee has to pull off his own film, though.

“If Bee’s successful, we can have a Bee 2, no doubt,” di Bonaventura. “We have a good sense of where a second movie would go. For me, the greatest thing that came out of the writer’s room was the sense that we could go in any number of directions. It opened up our minds to choices.”
