I'm sure Kupp is Animated deluxe Prime.

Perhaps ThunderClash will be a repainted Voyager Animated Optimus Prime with a retooled head, or a new weapon?... man, I'm excited. I love Animated.

I was kind of thinking Universe Ultra Onslaught.

Bleah.

I like animated alot Don't get me wrong, but they are easily available now, and they are pretty much making all the guys who even think about being in the show.

I would much rather my high priced Botcon set to be classic characters we have not seen recently or in a new way like the shattered glass set or the games of deception set.

I was actually looking forward to a wreckers set.

Oh well it could be worse and I am sure once we see them I will be happier about it.

...............

on one hand, I like that they are doing an animated back story, as that could be cool.

on the the other, I'll need to see the images before throwing down cash for for the Iacon package. I do like the animated figures, but I can't get excited for these yet.

Now if Thunderclash is an Ultra Magnus repaint that would be pure win.

Animated (Wyatt & Co.) is doing it's best to cater to so so many TransFans from all over the fandom. I honestly do hope these are don in the Animated asthetic. It's logical it would happen considering we know that the story showcases the formation of the Elite Gaurd -- a force truly unique to Animated; this is verified by this years logo being the Elite Gaurd Symbol.

A bit off topic... I signed up for the customization class a day too late last year. I have repurposed my Armorhide into Huffer and have my music label Soundwave next to Shattered Glass Megatron... all I'm missing is Nightbeat! Is there anyone of us here that is willing to sell me thier customizing class Autobot Secret Police Nightbeat? I imagine the price will be steep considering it is indeed a custom figure. But I will do whatever I can to get him. Then my Shattered-verse set will be complete.

Awesome!!! An Animated set, exactly what I wanted...except for the fact that I can't make it to Botcon this year. Curses. Lot's of cool looking names, too...

If it's animated.... What a waste $300 for that crap.. Worst design yet maybe those guys in the office can makke some new line that is more appealing.. Even kids don't like the crap around here!!! They think it looks to childish and their 4-9 yrs old!! Glad it's on the opposite side of the country.. I'd be pissed if this set was designed for a Botcon that I could drive to like back in 2007 when I drove to Prov., R.I.

If the set is classics-style, then I'll get it. If it's Animated then I won't. It isn't said anywhere that this will be using Animated figures.

Looks like Hasbro learned from last year. The ROTF toys will be avaliable from the Hasbro booth, Not an early release in the area. And the first release stickers are a great idea!

Now the dealers won't be able to buy up all the product and sell them at inflated prices.

Too bad I can't go :-( Oh well. Kuribohfett, You up for next year!

I certainly am up for next year, Mr. Firebird. It is sad, though. I love the animated toys and I bet these are really awesome. Botcon always does a great job.

The first release sticker is a wonderful idea, but maybe it's a good thing I'm not going. Since that's when the toy line is released anyway, everything at every Target, Walmart, and wherever is going to be a mad house. Despite all the hatred for ROTF toys on this and other websites, they're gonna sell like crazy. Pasedena's gonna be all tore up!

If they used Animated molds for the set then I think we'll see something like:

Cybertronian Mode Prime= Kup
Voyager Prime, with maybe some added weapons = Thunderclash
???=Landshark don't know who he is and can't find anything about him, looks like a new character, is so, then perhaps Sentinel Prime can be used for him.
Flak = Blitzwing (its the only tank in the line)
Scourge = Voyager Megatron.

If they plan on using molds from other lines:

I'd Say:

Movie Dropkick= Kup
Cybertron Leader Class Prime = Thunderclash
Cybertron Downshift = Land Shark
Cybertron Defense Scattershot= Flak
Energon Sharkticon= Scourge

Now If I where doing this I'd want:

Energon Snowcat as Kup
Armada Prime as Thunderclash
Energon Dirtboss as Land Shark
Cybertron Scout Scattershot as Flak
Cybertron Thunderblast as Scourge

All it says is Elite Guard. That doesn't have to mean it is in the Animated continuity.

Funny you should choose Snowcat. I did a repaint of Snowcat with G1 Kup's head attached. I thought the body was a perfect choice for Kup as well. Check it out:

My Predictions for the set, assuming classics-style figures.

Thunderclash - Universe Onslaught
Kup - Energon Snowcat w/remolded head
Landshark - Energon Sharkticon, or Classics Prowl, depending how much emphasis they put on the "shark" part vs the "land" part
Flak - Cyb Scattorshot seems like a good one, but he's only scout sized. I'm hoping for something a little larger.
Scourge - I'm hoping for Titanium Scourge in plastic form, otherwise I'm guessing Cybertron Soundwave.

I know it doesn't have to be Animated, but its the current line, Botcon is known for using the newer line for the bulk of their sets.

But you are correct, they do use molds form other lines also.

Anyway, Nice custom.

I was trying to come up with a decent body for Kup, but there don't seem to be many pick up trucks around, which is why I used Movie Dropkick for the non Animated list. But I still think Snowcat looks better. I guess they could use him too. The large windshield is a good throwback to G1 Kup.

Well, whatever it is, I wish they'd just stick with one line to pull figures from, like with the 2007 set. Just something about seeing all those different continuities represented annoys me. Maybe because I'm anal retentive.

That said, Animated wouldn't be a bad choice--but for some of these figs it's going to come down to the quality of the retool/repaint to get my $$$.

On a side note, is the actual order form itself online somewhere yet, or just that brochure? I may have missed it...

Just the brochure.

From the description, this guy (me) might be saving some money this year. Not going to the con, and thus, no pressure to have to buy it = only if I really want it and like the look of the molds/repainted/retooled.

I may be alone on this, but I think this is disappointing. I was really hoping to get to see the new movie early like at the '07 con. I don't really care for the Animated Elite Guard or picking up those crappy ROFT toys, no matter how many stickers they put on them. I was really hoping for Universe Wreckers.

You notice how it said party rather than dinner? Please tell me that Stan Bush is not going to play at the party! Please tell me that pizza is not on the menu except as a snack after the dinner.

Did you all notice that there is a definate lack of information in that brocure. Heck 90 percent of that could have been posted last year.

has it been mentioned that the botcon set can't use an existing hasbro running line?

or am i making things up in the hope, its not animated crap?

i feel reli disappointed that its not the wreckers set, and even more saddened to the fact that they didn't take the opportunity to do a diaclone themed set with it being the 25th anniversary

Given that unused sets from the 2006 and 2007 classes were available at the auction last year, I don't know for sure what the rules are anymore on the sale of these items. But it was (and likely still remains) that class tours cannot be formally sold. There are penalties.

My recommendation to you, PlasmaEnergyGod, is to buy a second club Nightbeat and do a repaint. It's not a terribly difficult alteration. (Or a cheaper approach is to use the Energon Hot Shot, which would require more paint apps and would have a variation of the head obviously). Or commission one from any number of people in the community. Good luck.

:???:

I think that a Diaclone set would be cool, but why if it's the 25th anniversary of the TF line, and not Diaclone which is a few years older? it would be interesting if they were to do that in a later year, maybe for the diaclone 30 or 35 year anniversary.

You know I was just thinking about how at the beginning of Animated they showed clips from G1 as "history files". If this set is going back that far, maybe they won't use Animated figues but older ones. One can hope.

Also I suspect they're doing a party instead of a dinner this cause they got alot of complaints about last years "dinner/casino night/auction". That was total bull crap. The food was terrible, the gambling was boring, and then top it off you get wait 3 hours for the last prize to come up. The one that everyone wanted, BotCon '06 BW Megatron, only to have some fuckin' scalper walk off with it. All 'cause he bought 100 sets and therefore got a 100X casino money vouchers. It still pisses me off. Can you tell?

I swore off going to another BotCon, but I somehow got hopes up that this one would be special like the '07 BotCon. Boy was I wrong. Unfortunately the money is already spent so looks like I'm going, like it or not.

Why doing they just put everything out at once? Figure previews, brochure, registration, hotel info. Instead of forcing to shell out on hotel and air and everything before you see what you're getting. It's like if you hired a prostitute and had to pay up front. Then she shows you the goods and she's got a dick. Lose your money or loose your dignity. Either way your getting fucked in the ass.

The logo for the elite guard was also used by the Cybertron Defense in the Transformers Cybertron series.

Incorrect. The Convention is using a slightly modified EG brand.
as shown here http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Badge

CDT: one chevron, point below autobrand.
EG: three chevrons, point hidden behind autobrand.

I did actually. Is this to be a permanent change? I think it could be kind of cool, if done right, but it certainly isn't a little expense for people.

I also noticed they claim to have 200+ tables for the dealer room, which is interesting given that none have been booked yet officially. Given the recession and the new legislation pertaining to toys, that's not a claim I'd have made right off the bat...

Are we sure it's Animated? No. But they are the series dealing with the Elite Guard. Also, it is possible for them to use the Ani figs, as the factories are probably tooling for the ROTF by now.

On Snowcat: I really think he'd make a better Thunderclash. His back section with the rockets closely matches Thunderclash's Trailer. That said, SnowKupp is really cool.

I suspect that I'll get the non-attending. Pasadena is just a tad far and on the last week of school.

I had the same feeling. Looking at the brochure automatically had me thinking of all the logistics I had to do in order to get me and my 2 friends there last year. Good times.

Hopefully Botcon '09 will be on the east side of the Rockies.

Is it a bad plan to register for the Iacon Package sight-unseen, then take the (previously $25) cancellation fee if pics come out and I don't like the set? I don't want to take the chance of missing out if I DO like the figures. I simultaneously DON'T want Animated to save money and DO want Animated to bulk up that shelf

This is why I like the fan run conventions, it is for the fans. This party should be for anyone, whether they purchase a package or not.

RANT: This convention is for Funpub to sell their toys and get you to join their club that is the bottom line. If you purchase their toys, you shall be rewarded, WTF, I am sorry to say but that is just really a huge turn off to this con. While it is nice to have an offer of being able to purchase a toy, it should not be a requirement. If Funpub was worried about selling enough toys than all they have to do is get out a pre-order a year in advance, there are plenty of people who buy sight unseen (I am not one of them).

There wasn't anything in the brocure that would make me want to go this year. For me it is the panels and guests to be able to talk to that I find interesting. And there was zero information on that. There was nothing that said what the 25th anniversary of Transformers has to do with the con either, I mean like "we have gotten a variety of speakers, artists, writers from all era's of the cartoons, comics and movies. Nothing at all.

Anything to do with Hollywood or movies is just underwhelming my interest.

I'm disappointed that it isn't Classic style Wreckers. I can see the set being something like

Cyb Prime for Kup
Voyager Prime (new head) for Thunderclash
Swindle for Landshark
Activator Magnus for Flakk
Voyager Megatron (new head) for Scourge

There aren't usually 2 toys in the set as big as a voyager so I think hoping for 2 voyagers and 3 deluxes is a little optimistic. The attendee figure should be the same mould as one of the deluxes from the main set, Cyb Prime or Swindle from my picks. If Megatron is used for Scourge then we'd almost have to see a 2 pack of Sweeps (hopefully with retooled heads) from the Cyb deluxe Megatron as one of the 'on the day' exclusives.
