Compared wo this, my bootleg looks more "modified". This should keep customs happy regarding the law, as I don't see much people foolinga round with it on the streets, since only older (richer) collectors would buy it and I think of them as mature and responsible enough to be pulling that sort of stunt.

I was 99.9% positive that was the case but good to see for sure. Mine will be here next week.

OK, so you were right, hurrah for you, move your meter to 60.

This "cap" isn't the same type of orange cap we're used to seeing on regular toy guns. The standard type is affixed permanently and wraps around the outside of the barrel. Such a cap would be impossible to remove without damaging the figure. This yellow plug is something entirely different. Still, each of these Megatron figures was opened, handled and altered before ever reaching its owner. There's still something foul about that.

Did you even look at the pictures? The 'cap' is a removeable yellow plug. Just pull it out and you're set.
And painting over the bright orange tip, if there was one, isn't always a walk in the park for some of us, especially if we don't want it to be noticeable.

BBTS may do something entirely different, which I pray to Primus they're not. I would love to be able to simply yank it off & call Megatron perfect. I'll just wait to see BBTS's MP Megs..............
I was under the impression takara was doing something to sell to folk who had american buyers.

and i feel that this is not gonna be the universal plug for all stores.
however, bbts just sent me an email saying its already shipping over, and will be here next week
that doesnt seem like a very ling time for paint or glue to dry, so maybe they got the same rubber plug.

BBTS: WROTE
Hi Dan,
We hope to receive our shipment in the next week. The plug will be similar
except I'm not exactly sure how it will be applied. We hope to receive a photo
after the modification has been done and we will post it on our site.
Thanks!

I'm suprised it got past customs because technically it still does not conform to US standards for an approved marking to identify a toy gun. I don't think everyone should breathe a collective sigh of relief just yet. This appears to only be an HLJ cap until orders start to arrive from places like BBTS that are standing by the sale of modified versions. BBTS website does state that it is, in fact, an orange cap.

No, it's not...
I am very torn on this.
I would like to order the figure, in the easiest was possible (usually BBTS), but I am concerned about how easily I will be able to get that orange plug out.

If you could, can you make a post with how BBTS is attaching their plug? Hopefully it's similar to HLJ's.

tentagil wrote:It looks like it would jsut slip in, hopefully no glue is involved.
BBTS says that an adheasive will be applied .5 inches into the depth of the barrel and then the cap will slip in.
See, adheasive could be super glue, could be bond-o, or it could be sticky tack.
I'm sick of not getting a straight deal on this issue.
I have money to spend, as soon as I get the truth about this cap crap.

Unfortunately its plastic barrel which means some of the more aggressive tricks I know to remove those kinds of adhesives would probably damage the figure. Oh well, I'll figure it out, that cap won't be staying in for long.

tentagil wrote:Well that means attempt one at removal will involve a hair dryer and pliers then. Unless its an epoxy or superglue most adhesives loosen up with heat so it might work. If they used an epoxy however then removing it with out heavy modification could be an issue.

Actually, I found out while repairing my G1 Megatron that epoxy does not hold onto plastic very well. It peeled off, kind of like rubber cement. I don't know if that's true on all plastics, but that was my experience.

I actually use two part epoxys when I'm customizing at times for a really strong bond. Though some how I doubt they used one of the really strong ones, so it should be possible with effort to remove this. Won't know for a few weeks though when I get mine.
