The Facebook page In Demand Toys has some new images of the upcoming Earthrise figures. These are rather important since they are the first images we have of the finished figures. The ones we saw before were sometimes painted samples and 3D renderings. These are for the smaller figures; the Micromaster packs and Soundbarrier the ramp. We see all the wave 1 deluxe toys in packaging and out of the packaging as well as the back of their boxes.

Fellow Seibertronian Jelzerabbit sent us word of these pics and gave their analysis of the molds (re)used too:

In Demand Toys has the same images, plus Soundbarrier, the Hot Rod Patrol Trip-Up and Daddy-O aka Big Daddy, and finally shots of the Military Patrol Bombshock and Growl. The latter Patrol is quite interesting as they show how far the part sharing has come, as they use Topshot and Flak parts:

- Growl uses Flak's chest and 5mm peg, and Topshot's upper legs
- Bombshock uses Flak's legs, and Topshot's cannon

In other words, most of their grey parts are recycled. The magic of gang-molding

Let us know what you think and if you preordered them yet, they are available for ordering at practically every collectible online store right now.

Because it’s a fake leak

I suppose I need to clarify what I'm saying here. I know the leak is probably fake/relying on obvious choices to attempt to have credibility, but I find it odd that the "leaker" didn't even think to include Snapdragon despite him actually being hinted at

That shouldn't mean Snapdragon isn't coming.

Anyone can guess what we will see next anyways. And since that's the case, here's what I think am sure we will see in earthrise (or the line after):

Inferno
Bumblebee
Trailbreaker
Thrust
Ramjet
Dirge
Thundercracker
Skywarp
Snapgradon
Sunstreaker
Scorponok
Quintesson
Allicon

From now on, you can all call me Nostradamos.

Soundbarrier is weird. Look at their box art, they have half the shield dragging behind them but show it fully folded up in all the stock images. I really hope there is a bit more to the transformation that simply tucking in the limbs and folding out the shield... but I doubt it. I mean, I'll still get them cause I'm a sucker for tiny Transformers but... eh.

Well there is folding in the 5mm peg, which has FINALLY been done on the stock photo. The initial renders all had the peg out for robot mode.

Prime Airachnid actually transformed somewhat, though, despite being a terrible figure. Soundbarrier, unfortunately, looks to be the worst "shellformer" we've ever had. He literally just stands at attention, legs together, arms to his sides, lays face down, and has a ramp on his back. His transformation is folding the ramp in half and standing up "at ease." He'll probably be a fun accessory, as good looking shields are much more rare accessories in Transformers, and he's got a unique blast effect part too, but the titular "transformation" in his play pattern is utterly bland and uninspired.

At least Airachnid had an actual Transformation into an admittedly cool helicopter mode.

Titanium series Megatron is probably still the worst.

Soundbarrier is a thing of dreams: modular base components for sale on their own. They just happened to make it also turn into a robot. Neat!

I hope Quintessa is the for-copyright-retention-purposes name that gets slapped on Wreck-Gar's girlfriend Nancy from "The Big Broadcast of 2006". Auntie would be fine too.

Yes to this please.

Soundbarrier really needed to integrate better with the shield mold, it is bad.

Also, brainstorm: what if the Quintessa listing isn't for a TLK homage, but rather someone who was on Quintessa who can't get a trademark (like Scotty mentioned earlier), like Detritus, an Alicon, Kranix, etc.

Heh, that was the surprise second option for the custom class figure back at this year's RoboCon. ;)

I don't think anyone posted this yet, I think it surfaced with/shortly after those Takara stock photos, but here's proof that the Micromasters still have weapon/"weapon" modes and what looks to be a callout of some kind on Hoist's battle damage. Perhaps indicating it as a unique feature, so that those who don't like it don't have to worry about it being line-wide again (I don't know what it actually says, just a guess).

You're missing the point of Soundbarrier. They're selling a ramp. Ironworks is a base and a robot, but is ultimately just modular base parts too. Enough of these in enough quantity and we'll be able to create our own planets. Of junk!

Or at least that's my working theory.

I had a decent sized Masterpiece collection of a half-dozen or so, but transformations weren't fun. I had statues that could transform, but didn't. I wanted toys I could play with, even if I would spend more time displaying or storing them than fiddling with them. I got a few Classics figures, but they always felt a little off. Combiner Wars and Titans Return started to get me to where I wanted to be.

I wasn't fully committed to the CHUG life until I got Sideswipe in my hands: this is what I always wanted in a Transformers figure. Some of the Siege line still wasn't as accurate as I wanted, like Magnus, or wasn't as fun to play with, like Springer. By and large, though, I think this is what I always wanted from a Transformers toyline.

With Earthrise Prime and Starscream in particular, plus standbys like Cliffjumper and Wheeljack, I think we're getting nearly perfect $20-$30 Transformers. Sure, I'm a little disappointed in how derivative the Seeker mold is, and I'm wary of Prime's deco, but overall I've been really impressed. I'm shooting for a complete lineup of '84-'86 bots, and they should all have good articulation, a mix of good cartoon and toy accuracy, all at a fraction of the cost per figure of Masterpiece.

I'm honestly trying, but I can't see car sex. All I see is just a really awkward pile-up.

Remember how the Skyboom Shield, Requiem Blaster, and Star Saber from Armada actually looked like actual weapons and not just a bunch of alt modes piled together with a 5mm post? Good times.

That's being way too generous to the Skyboom Shield's bottom piece which is quite literally just a car latched on to the otherwise good work that Dirt Boss and Downshift are doing.

But in principle I completely agree here. The Micromasters have been far from what they could have been. They're more articulated than some Armada Mini-Cons and use some nice modern sculpting but outclassed in almost every way in the cleverness of engineering and fun-factor.

When a Cybertronian chooses an alt form, usually it's from scanning some animal, object, or vehicle. So now I really want to know what was in Soundbarrier's processor the day he decided to scan a piece of road...

Cheetor: I transform into a Cheetah!

Tracer: I transform into a gun!

Windblade: I transform into a jet!

Soundbarrier: ummm... yo... 'sup?

I guess he can always hang out with the Rock Lords...

Or, it's something that's built into their bodies upon their initial construction, like what was the case for the Dinobots, Stunticons, Aerialbots, and Technobots in the G1 cartoon. Meaning Soundbarrier could have had his ramp mode built into his body upon his initial construction, as though he was built to be a practical services bot.

Does anyone know why the Targetmasters with the Takara Legends versions of the Titan Masters had knee articulation but the Hasbro Siege Battle Masters do not? Feels like a step back in both articulation and transformation.

Maybe the quintessons thought that a ramp could never rebel against them, only to find when their elderley needed access to a building he was no where to be seen.

That, and another factor that ties into it is the ease of retooling. TakaraTomy has no problems making standalone figures, but Hasbro almost always designs them to be able to have molds switched out.

To top it off, it's also likely a matter of the Hasbro and Takara ones each simply adhering to the differing needs of different target audiences. Takara's Targetmasters were being geared towards collectors who'd be more likely the pose and display their figures, while Hasbro's Battle Masters are geared towards both kids and collectors, factoring in the need for the Battle Masters to be durable enough to withstand any roughness from children's playtime.

Having examined a few of both Takara's Targetmasters and Hasbro's Battle Masters, myself, the Takara ones have a bit more articulation but are also a bit on the delicate side, while the Hasbro ones are lacking in some articulation but are also sturdier and more durable than Takara's.

Hasbro does have to cater to all ages and their Battle Masters are waaaaaaaay more durable than the couple of Takara ones I have.

Can someone with more knowledge please tell me how likely a truly good combiner is in this line?

I think people would go crazy for the individual bots alone in some cases (hello, Bruticus), but obviously Hasbro's model is re-use of moulds, so... What could be made to work in theory?

And I don't want to be collecting across multiple lines just to build something wildly off-colour or whatever!

There's been nothing hinted at in this particular line (Selects is a different matter entirely and they are giving us access to the Takara King Posideon) I'd say not likely for Earthrise. The next part is an unknown though.

Yeah, that's what I figure. I really want something that, to me, looks great individually AND together. What we're seeing so far is niche compared to Devastator or Bruticus.

It does feel like we'd have to wait for a whole new line and not just part 3 of the trilogy, with the continual re-use of moulds and parts. Hell we haven't even seen the show yet and we're already well into part 2 in toy terms.

Equally it'd be crazy for the show to be a hit and not be producing the appropriate toys alongside it. You have to wonder what impact there'll be on release schedules (like Marvel Legends waves and re-releases being affected by movies).

What gives me any any sort of hope is that we've gotten/are getting the likes of Omega Supreme and Scorponok, and that the IDW comics seem to have been quite an influence.

They seem to have fast tracked every viable Gestalt for Earthrise in recent years. Other than Raiden, at a stretch. For example, Monstructor wouldn't exactly fit the brief.

Besides, nearly all of the major G1 Combiners have been done and accounted for by Combiner Wars, Unite Warriors, and Power of the Primes. None of the combiners covered by those lines really need any redoing, and it's still pretty early to even be thinking of such.

I know, but for an upcoming show with Netflix exposure that already has a strong IDW influence, I've been starting to wonder. Plus the current toys are WAY ahead of whatever lore we eventually get. You're seeing relatively deep cuts character-wise in a line that has a lot of exposure in stores and is backed up by Generations Select.

Basically, I'm thinking more for the mainstream than those of us who know about past releases. And this is only a half-baked idea at best ;) , but if Grapple becomes Hotspot, Ironhide/Ratchet becomes First Aid, slightly modernise Groove so that he could be used again elsewhere etc... way down the line could you see Defensor, for instance?

The old-fashioned Earthrise reveals just have me hopeful for more Earth alt modes that could lead to a combiner I guess

Yeah we just got good figures of nearly every combiner in the last few years. Does anyone else think that Soundbarrier looks like a tiny Straxus? Or is he just the Ramp of Darkmount?

Looks more like an accessory to me >:oP

Now if that were Furman's IDW influence on a show, that would be something really interesting to watch. If we're talking RiD/OP/TAAO/MTMTE/LL as an influence. That sounds potentially worse than Unicron Trilogy or Beast Machines.

Actually I think they mean the new IDW continuity, which as we know is heavily modeled on the siege detailing. Also the Unicron Trilogy was fun and a great era for fans with some great toylines, they served the target market well. Plus we all know that MTMTE cartoons in the same vein as DCs animated fare would be awesome as that series would lend itself well to motion. Like an animated red Dwarf.

Though Siege fan I can say with 100% percent certainty that there will be no combining hot-spot from the Earthrise grapple mold. A lot more work has to go into designing a combiner torso, while grapple is clearly grapple (with in built inferno retool)
