...and I had to promise myself "If they make a version without THAT grey plastic, I'll get it", didn't I?

Oh well, I've still never owned the G1 Megs mould, which makes it slightly more justified...

That and the box IS awesome!

I never really will understand the logic behind why they can't release this kind of stuff here in the states. i mean, why not? Better paint apps kill kids now? I really want to look inside these guy's heads, just to see the reason why, wether it's law or the toy makers, or otherwise. Is it just cost? I mean, if they can do it, why not us? All these bumblebee re-paints prove wev'e got the material...
OK HASBRO
No more Re-paints! Just paint what weve got!
I wish that was the case...

Japan and the US have very different Action Figure markets. Where Japan's market is nearly completely made-up of collectors willing to spend more to get nicer looking toys. The US market is made of children and parents who don't care about the minor details, they only care that the price is low. Paint, if you can believe it, is very expensive. Especially when you're talking about the hundreds of thousands of units hasbro is producing. Adding a few small paint apps means adding quite a bit of cost to the entire run. Hasbro could either do two things there. They can either raise the price, which they will not do as it is established the main market for TFs in the US is price sensitive children and parents, or take what might be a fairly significant profit hit. It's likely the paint they give us now is in the sweet spot of enough to make the toys look alright, but still give them a nice profit. As for why they can't do small run collator oriented repaint lines, it's likely the market for that is too small to justify a new production run.

No worries on that, it's mainly the lighter golds that are affected.

Premium Series Megatron anyone? ;;) I wanna see the Supreme Commander Set now with both Optimus Primes and trailer!

Very, very cool. But, and it may be the lighting, why aren't the smokestacks painted?

Other than that, man that looks cool. I knew there would be a version of Voyager megs i'd want to get. And I'm glad I have the set pre-ordered. Makes me want to order the Prime Chronicles. Though I really don't need another G1 Prime.

I think they're a darker gray than the original, if so then at least they aren't that "Games Workshop gray" that HasTak likes using. ;)

Yeah, they look slightly darer than Hasbro's, but still a little silver pint come on. I guess I can always use the Sharpie technique on them.

They made it even more brown... I guess it's more screen accurate, but I'm not a fan. I wish they'd made it a more classic Megatron color scheme. But I'm not getting it anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Looks pretty sweet! Those colours really come alive in truck mode if ya ask me. The combo of silver, gold and bronze work well together.

Oh how i hate grey plastic syndrome that plagues TF's these days. That's really what GPS should stand for.

MAN! That DOTM Megatron looks sexy! I want it really bad, like you've got no clue!
I want that DOTM megs, but not that G1 megs. Anyone wanna split, PM me with a reasonable price. I may have to wait a bit to pay though......ahh...hectic life....

Damn, that's a greatly painted Movie Megs. Makes me (almost) wish I'd have waited. Luckily, as beautiful as the Japanese version is done up (NO SURPRISE there...sadly), the duller colors of the retail US version I have almost play into the final shit taken on the character in the films. No, not in aesthetic (but yes, that too), but in character. Megs was treated like a secondary shit in the first flick, killed off, brought back with the power of the AllSpark Shard (something that should have activated an AllSpark - first film - overdosed, overpowered Megatron/Galvatron in the THIRD film - to allow for the Fallen in the second) into a subordinate secondary shit in the second film, then a beat-down bitch of shit in the third film. Yeah, the dull plastic colors of the one I have fit perfectly. Still, that Takara version is well done.

The Transformers Galaxy - Hong Kong Fans Group has uploaded a gallery of the Transformers DOTM Voyager Megatron premium repaint that will be featured in Takara's Chronicle two-pack due out later this month. As you can see in the images mirrored below this version features a much more elaborate paint scheme compared to it's Hasbro counterpart, which only had minimal paint applications.

After seeing the pics, I just couldn't resist. I don't own a DOTM Megs yet (in fact, I only own 3 or for DOTM figs total) but seeing the way this version looks plus the fact that I have never owned a G1 Megs, I just had to get it.

I'll just have to work out how to remove the silly orange plug from G1 Megs' barrel, but that shouldn't be too tough.

Thanks, that really helped. For ourselves in Singapore, we're so pampered with such a huge influx of Takara stuff, and have so many toy collectors to sustain the market, that I hardly remember sometimes that these toys were meant for KIDS. It's also a surprise sometimes when I see toys which are Lawson's exclusives, Target's exclusives etc, and how people can't find this or that toy, because almost ALL of it gets here and it's not a big deal.

On the other hand, maybe some consolation may be found in the fact that the Hasbro toys are up to half as cheap where you are. By the time they get to us, it's ridiculous. A deluxe costs USD$23, a Voyager USD$44, and Leader USD$88.

i dont think you have to worry about that

cause leader class starscream has the same brownish color and he hast had GPS

and why are people complaining about paint apps?

i wonder if they know that a tube of really good paint is like 30$ dollars for one color

and the tube is small

im not sure what paint hasbro and takara use but im pretty sure its expensive

Gold Plastic Syndrome. It's a rather nasty affliction contracted by toys using metallic plastics, especially light gold or bronze colors. Basically it makes the toy crumble when you even breathe on it. It's especially prevalent in later G1 into G2 toys, but cases have been found well into RiD.

I wouldn't worry about that with current toys however, as Hasbro has tweaked the plastic formula ever since the problem became known, and there haven't been cases since Armada (Super Base Optimus Prime suffers from a design flaw, not GPS).

That's chrome flaking, another unrelated problem. Transmetals and some Beast Machines toys have been given chromed parts, but the paint on it doesn't stick without the proper primer.
With GPS it's the plastic itself that's the problem, to be exact the metallic flakes that prevent it from properly bonding. Because of that, it breaks like a warm piece of chocolate, instead of snapping like regular plastics do.
