We're a month away from the release of the Takara Tomy Mall exclusive Transformers Legends LG-EX Big Powered box set and it's making likely it's final live event appearance. Not only did the figures get a little display, but the real takeaway here is that we also got our very first look at the box art thanks to @brickonator on Twitter. Surprisingly they didn't seem to attempt to recreate the original box art or their positioning on the original box set. But the are is really nice as seen below.

The set, featuring a group of heavy Titans Return retools (more on that here), consists of Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, and Roadfire and will be released in March for 15,000 JPY. A photo of the display can be seen below from Twitter user @blackflameF50.

I'm loving this line of LG-EX releases and the ideas behind them, now with Amarda Optimus Prime joining the ranks, will they do an idea that's been tossed around since combiner wars and do an Energon Prime update with transforming drones?

All you did was confirm it's not, as they're not the same width. :P

Anywho, consider Star Convoy a maybe. This continues the retooling of molds to make the later G1 Leaders like Dai Atlas. I wonder who's next.

That was my intention ;)

Holding out to see starconvoys truck mode oterwise te encore release will do for me.

Big powered is going to be kind of dissapointing not having the three bots and the vehicle (6 figures) all in the box :P but looks nice and is definitely a buy.

Armada prime a deff, same with Blackarchnia but dreading the price and having to prioritise the possible Super7 Snake Mountain on top of all the rest of the beastwar MPS...Expensive year for sure.

You know, it just occurred to me that Armada Prime is probably a heavy retool of PotP Rodimus Prime, at least the trailer anyway, since both feature a smaller figure changing legs into arms.

It's possible they could share engineering, but I do not see any actual parts reused from Rodimus.

These "Big Power" figures look good for remolds but after just attempting to watch their show I couldn't get through half of it

The humans where are like little squealing rats.

Why the h3ll did they have to say "Transform" every 30 seconds?

Why are they able to slap around cape wearing Combiners and Citybots?

And why are Japan's versions all so goofy???!

......If I bought this set it would not regard this show in anyway. They'd be an Autobot faction similar to Wreckers and Dinobots and nowhere near as overpowered as they are in that show.

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant.

So it seems they are holding back the trailer and super mode for a future event or reveal.

In any case, think I can skip Star Convoy, and get an original or Encore release.

I'll wait for Armada though. He looks really nice.

It's strange the decided to go the route of separate figures, considering Armada Prime was a homage to Star Convoy. Long nose truck, treaded trailer, large robot that uses the trailer for legs...

Anyway, still love my Armada Prime to bits. Wish I had some space to display him.

I guess they are holding him back for when they can show him in color.

And what about Armada Prime? I mean the mold will appear in SIEGE or at least at some point in the WfC trilogy.

@Overcracker I hope you will have time to make some more reviews. I really like them ;)

Not sure Hasbro is bringing ay of these Legends figures over. But we'll have to wait and see. The 20 years of Armada is coming up.

As to the reviews, yeah, haven't had time to do any more. I'll try to get back into the swing of things soon.

Given this guys size, and about how big he would be in a (at this point hypothetical) super mode, it is entirely possible he could function as the Commander Class entry for next year. I certainly hope so.

For a trio I know nothing about, those dudes look fantastic. I canceled my Pre-Order only because of money concerns, but I sure hope they are still around when they release.

I was sold on these guys purely on looks alone, in spite of Zone being such a minor thing that even Japan mostly forgot about. Then again it help all three are retool of what I consider among the best molds Titan Return had to offer, so they're staying as pre-orders in spite of how much they cost.

Let's hold off until we see the actual trailer. I don't see any reused parts tho, tho I will agree that Hot Rod and Armada Prime have similar steps for their bigger modes.

It turns out the arms for the super mode are already part of the smaller robot and not in the trailer.

He was talking about the leg section alone, I dunno how they scale together, but I wouldn't be against it, anything is fine, so long as it's poseable

On a related note, is there any anniversary for armada or micron legend that hasbro would release this for? is 15th coming up soon? I feel like TT developing this from scratch just 'cuz seems a bit over the top, and I feel hasbro would be missing out on not using it :-?

15th was in 2017, 20th is coming up in 2022.

We did get CW Armada Megs and TR Tidalwave if you want to count that as Hasbro Celebrating Armada in some way.

I think Takara has better plans for this. We might yet see an Encore release of Super Convoy.

I don't see Hasbro bringing over Armada Prime outside of maybe in the SELECTS line if at all.

If anything, figures retooled from standard assortment figures like Big Powered and Star Convoy stand a better chance as they fit better in Hasbro's Size Classes ("Battlestar Optimus Prime" anyone?). TakaraTomy figures made from scratch tend to fall outside given limits, but one can hope the designers have some foresight when it comes to that.

Dunno how that's supposed to make sense business-wise, I mean the interest is there, if they're concerned about it not doing well at mass retail I get that, but they clearly aren't adverse to the ol' amazon exclusive and whatnot. It's also repaint-able too, I dunno, this just seems like a wasted opportunity to me, but maybe that's why I'm not running a company :???:

Comes down to whether Hasbro thinks they can make a profit out it. As Jelze points out, if it does not fit in their size classes its harder for Hasbro to sell it to regular retail.

Amazon so far has been a good outlet for exclusives, so maybe they can carry this, if Hasbro believes there's enough interest and profit.

As to Star Convoy, it would not surprise me if Hasbro brings it over as Jelze points out. A completely new figure out of any regular scale and price bracket does not bode well however.

We have yet to see Hasbro bring over Takara's Bumblebee Movie Legendary Optimus Prime, and that one should fit nicely into a Leader class price point.

This Armada redux seems unlikely to fit in any of Hasbro's current offerings. But I hope I'm wrong.

And I think it's yet another experiment to gauge if the fans actually like having obscure characters despite them being heavily retooled from older figures. If really successful, we may see the likes of Road Caesar and Dinoking yet.

Big Powered is looking great! It's gonna be a fun April whenever he arrives at my place!

Star Convoy is an awesome reveal. Wish his chest windows were retooled, but I love that head. Here's hoping for colored pictures soon!

I just got the OG Armada Prime that can combine, so it only makes sense that we would get a new one. And he looks really good and bulky! Beautiful heads on both Primes too

Speculation is that the inner "Orion Pax" figure was remolded into a standard G1 Optimus Prime, which would explain why the chest windows remain rectangular and not stylized like on the original Star Convoy.

So..the Legends line isn't ending after all, that is good news. Star Convoy looks great, but one would think they would have used the TR Prime as a starting point, even though it's been heavily reused already. With PotP Leader Prime as the starting point, how are they going to do Star Convoy's Base mode?

As windows, yes, but the backside of those panels also forms the bottom edge of the cab behind the front wheels, and I'm guessing that is why they had to stay rectangular. Probably a case of leaving them alone and adding the angled portion to the trailer was the easiest/cheapest way to get the chest for the evolved form "right enough".

I had forgotten about the windows on top of windows thing that the mold does. #-o

Yeah, in that case, I don't know what the excuse is for not remolding those parts.

Take the Legends designation with a grain of salt: their lines have not been confirmed, and their cards are pretty generic with just the "Transformers 35th Anniversary". Legends is a safe educated guess, but they could be standalone releases like the Golden Lagoon sets. Meanwhile, the two have their own dedicated thread.

They made base modes out of the TR Jumpstarter molds, TakaraTomy finds a way. They always do.

I hope they somehow manage to make it a long-nose cab like the original, although with a G1 Convoy Toy-based robot mode, I don't know if they'd go that route.

I'm more interested to see how a "base mode" will work, since seemingly the PotP Leaders really cant make one that I am aware of. I know the toys are not the same, but anyone out there who has PotP Leader Prime, want to try making a mock up of a *base mode* ;) . If Star Convoy had been made from TR Leader Prime I'd have been more prone to purchase it , since it would no doubt have compatibility/connectivity with the other TR Leaders.

This is Takara... They made base modes from the deluxe Top Spin and Twin Twist modes....i trust them to finangle something from it.

LG-EX Blue Big Convoy, piggybacking on the recent release of Encore Big Convoy, is based on an exceedingly rare Beast Wars Neo lucky draw figure and later repurposed for an e-Hobby story line involving their own Magna Convoy and Convobat. Several photos posted to the Hobbymizer Hong Kong Facebook discussion page (and a single photo from PC Kok) are showing off everything from unopened cases to the figure pared with Magna Convoy and even a preview of the pack-in comic!

Enjoy the photos and let us know what you think of the opportunity to get mass produced versions of Lucky Draw figures in the Energon Pub forums below.

Re: Legends Big Powered previewed ahead of release at Wonder Festival 2019 Winter (2012229)

I think that Hasbro will release Armada Prime here as Armada was a major part of the franchise in America at the time and the nostalgia is there. He probably will be released in Hasbro Pulse as a 35th anniversary thing. If he has a trailer I think it will be retooled from Power of the Primes Rodimus since he combines in a similar way to Armada Prime. as for a size class if it includes a trailer then it could be what ever class Siege JetFire is as the super mode of the original is of a similar height.

He is not part of 35th line, nor would he be, its not related to G1.

Been thinking recently, if Takara wants to expand the Armada updates to more characters than just Optimus and maybe Jetfire/Overload, they could pretty easily make a Wheeljack from Siege Sideswipe.

That appears to be the big difference between Hasbro and Takara Tomy's plans for the 35th anniversary. What Hasbro displayed was entirely G1, but what Takara Tomy displayed with Star Convoy and especially Armada Prime seems to be celebrating the life of the franchise as a whole rather than it's origin. But really lack enough information to say anything is for certain from either side just yet.

For now tho, it's a pretty safe bet whatever new tooling TakaraTomy makes for its lines will remain in Japan for a good while, brand new molds more so. We did get Super Ginrai, but not Godbomber.

yes, but wasn't that godbomber happened before the brand unification thing become official? and since they said that brand unification means takara and hasbro gets the exact same thing, it is safe to assume that armada prime will be brought by hasbro as well, unless it is an LG-EX thing.
