Fellow member, JTKranix noted that BigBadToyStore.com is reporting that Takara will be updating the paint applications for the Classics series.
BBTS.com had this to say:
TRANSFORMERS JAPANESE CLASSICS: Takara will be releasing the Classics line domestically in Japan, if you've missed out on any of them this is a great chance to fill in your collection. We've also just learned that they plan to update the paint versions of the figures to better reflect how they looked in G1 animations. We are digging for details (especially on Megatron - who would look awesome in gray & black), but there is not anything concrete available yet. We'll update the site as we learn more.

I wonder if there's any chance, too, that Takara might release repaints that Hasbro aren't (full Seeker set, any body?) - they didn't get the Botcon exclusives, so maybe Takara will fill the gaps...
Bit of a pipe dream, maybe, but something to consider...

Megatron is a no-brainer. ANYTHING would be better than the purple/green/orange NERF mess that Hasbro released, and it'll be nice to finally have a version that doesn't look so out of place with the other Classics.
I'm pretty happy with how Starscream currently looks, but won't say no to a version with a better face and maybe some deeper shades of red as opposed to the current burnt orange.
The current versions of Prime & Bumblebee are already perfect imo, so I'm not gonna pick up the Japanese versions. Not unless they do something drastic like give Prime chrome paint.
If they ever release Cliffjumper, I'll pay attention. I could see them losing the blue headlights in place of clear or black ones instead. Might be cool if they gave him a gun as well.

Dude, that's not an unreasonable thing to think, most people here seem to be very cynical when it comes o possibilities, I suppose its stemming from numerous let downs in he past..
most everyone thought they would just be the same thing that Hasbro released, but look what they have done now...!!! it's possible.. I would love a seeker 3 pack gift set!! and a seeker conehead 3-pack gift set!! Or a 2-pack with Rodimus and Ultra Magnus..
I hope they remold Optimus Prime's shoulder to include an autobot symbol to make him more g-1-ish, I wonder if they are modifying the paint to match the animation version a bit better???
Only time will tell...

Hate to burst your bubble Sunstar but there won't be a Classics Thrust and Dirge made. Hasbro already said that won't happen so that the value of the exclusives aren't tarnished. You'll just have to kitbash ones or pay through the nose on ebay.

I've tried to be helpful by saying things like that too.
Now it's just open flame, because no one apparently believes words that come straight from Hasbro anyway.

Yup. Just about every day someone, usually the same couple of people have to bring up the 2007 Botcon set.

If Takara desides to repaint Ramjet I cant see why its not posible for Dirge. As long as they use a different paint job then the Bot-con I dont think Hasbro would object much.

I very rarely ever bring this up. I just though if they are doing some stuff, that they could get away with doing it for Japan.

That is okay Sunstar, we all know I continually bring it up!! that's my job, be upfront, let ya'll know when i'm pissed about something.. and Botcon 2007 for me will live in infamy!! But lets get a few things straight...
1. I like the Botcon figures from previous releases, and think the majority of them are wonderful..
2. Botcon 2007 was the only time I got upset, because of the characters produced and sold, which I firmly believe should have ended up in a mass release..
3. If Takara Tomy does them, I will forever be a TakTom fan!! I will then finally buy classics for my collection..and ease up on the Botcon 07 issue..
4. I have no hatred for those who went or support Botcon..
5. those who jump on others who say one little bad thing about funpub and Botcon toys and exclusives or scalping, they will always defend their purchase, so if the Takara Tomy classics run steps on their toes, Oh well.. I don't think we should be as gentle about it as they were to us who complained about the exclusives.. so only time will tell if we will get them..
6. I like to bitch about Botcon..
just kidding with that last one...

I don't think it's impossible for Takara to release the other seekers. As long as they're not a 100% match of the BotCon set (I.E. repainted a different shade, Kanji symbols, etc) I think they'd be well within their rights to release those figures. Besides, we've seen that Japan reissues all six seekers in the past...there's nothing to stop them from making their own if they wanted to.
Will they? I have no idea, so don't bank anything on my words here.
Can they? Yes, with certain changes, but yes.
So keep your fingers crossed.
There's nothing wrong with having a little bit of hope, about something.

It's shocking how many people continue to think that because *they* think it could or should happen, that it will... even though Hasbro themselves have expressly said it won't.
Yeah it sucks that some people missed out on these figures while some of us others have multiple sets, but it's nevertheless annoying to see EVERY SINGLE thread about Classics get worn down by the constant harping about Thundercracker, Thrust & Dirge. It's not going to happen. If it did, it would immediately make the entire point of BotCon convention exclusives moot, thus turning off MANY potential return customers, attendees & fanclub members.
Deal with it and move on already.

these are just people's musings, opinions and wishful thinking. there's nothing wrong with that, and if you read most of the posts regarding exclusives here (most recently Autobot032's) none of them sounded like they were trying to rant or something. just a little (ok, maybe a lot) wishful thinking on their parts. ain't nothing wrong with a little dream (even impossible ones) - the world would be worse off without dreamers.
if you don't want to hear about people WISHING that this time around Takara would produce the rest of the seekers, then you always have the option of not reading this thread and not posting here.
what's more annoying than people wishing about Takara Botcon exclusives are people telling off these dreamers to move on because they were unfortunate enough to miss out on these.

It wouldnt be the first time that Hasbro has disapointed their collector fans.........and I doubt that many fans would give up on buying TF just cause Takara made a few Botcon exclusive characters.
And by the way the figures may have been exclusive toys but they were not exclusive characters. They were all G1 characters and from what I understand about the agrement between Hasbro and Takara there is no G1 character that is completly off limits. They may not be able to you the same modifide mold for Thrust of the same paint app on Dirge or Thundercracker but they should be able to use the characters.

Hehe, if the thread was titled "Wave 1 Japanese Classics Getting G1 Repaints... Plus More Tired Ranting & Raving About The BotCon 2007 Seekers", then I would have chosen not to read it. The problem is that not all of us are psychics, and therefore don't know what we're going to read until it's already happened.
what's more annoying than people wishing about Takara Botcon exclusives are people telling off these dreamers to move on because they were unfortunate enough to miss out on these.
No, trust me, the whiners are far more annoying, especially when they start going off about bunches of possible future repaints based on news of only 4 confirmed figures that still aren't even out yet. Add to that, it's been about 5-6 months since we found out what the BotCon exclusives were going to be, yet people are *still* throwing tantrums about it.
I fully realize it was a dirty move not to release those figures via mas retail, but the fact still remains that people *did* have the opportunity to buy them even if they didn't go to the convention - something that could have just as easily never happened. What's worse, keeping them as exclusives for attendee's only or allowing any Joe Somebody to also order them from anywhere in the world MONTHS before the convention ever actually happened?
The only realistic "new Seeker" possibility I see coming from Japan's release of the Classics is that we *might* get a Sunstorm repaint out of them alongside more G1 styled paint jobs of the existing figures already released by Hasbro, but that's it. But at this stage, with the confirmation of only 4 characters - each of which happen to be movie characters - I'm not speculating or holding my breath. For all we know, these could be the *only* Classics they release.
