Sabrblade had the following to say about these possible releases:
The leftmost one is based on Fox Kids Transmetal Waspinator (thus making him a dead ringer for Shattered Glass Waspinator).
The second-left one is based on the unreleased Universe (2003) "Halloween Horrorcon Value Pack" Waspinator.
The two on the right, however, have decos that aren't as obvious.
these Waspinators might all be Waruder mechs for the pilots, with the black paint on each of their backs supposedly representing cockpits.
The only counter I can see to this suggestion is that the Diaclone line didn't have any Waruder mech toys in any of these decos, but it's still possible that these could be a new kind of Waruder mech.
EDIT: Now the theory includes the suggestion of the red Waspy being based on this - http://www.robot-japan.com/gallery/item/warudaros-3.html
Also, a closer look at the four reveals that they're missing their robot mode heads (see the empty cavity behind each's beast mode head).

I thought that was more of a deco based on the first Transmetal Wasp from '98?
Posted by Sabrblade on May 19th, 2015 @ 6:58pm CDT
TM Waspy was predominately black, gold, and green with red and blue as secondary colors. This one is predominately red with black and blue as secondary colors and no green or gold.Inaction wrote:Sabrblade wrote:The red Waspy's thought to be a Warudaros homage.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:primalxconvoy wrote:My, my, what's this? - Wargon (from Kronoform, the same line that gave the Dashers their names)
- Siclonoid (from Grandstand's Convertors)

The main body and all its core aspects are black, though, with red only being on extended parts. This new figure is primarily red-bodied.primalxconvoy wrote:For me, the main colour for TM Waspy is red:

If they wanted to do a homage to the Transmetal, then they would have done a more direct homage like they did with the first two homaging the Fox Kids Transmetal and the Universe Halloween Horrorcon Transmetal.

Gold and green are very much important colors on the original Transmetal, while there is none on the red Waspy.

I'd like to see pics in bot mode.
An after thought. I'd also like to see this mold get a Repugnus colorways. Either in the universe colours or G1.

I think it's just case of a best fit, due to the limitations of the paint maps, and the inability to add chrome on just one of several toys (too expensive).
I'm fairly sure it's still a transmetal homage.

What limitations? The Generations mold's bug legs and antennae are on the same sprue, and the robot forearms can seemingly be whatever color they want to be, so those parts could have easily been red. The bug head and body share a sprue, so those could have been black. And the inner body plastic and shoulders could have also been black. The bug abdomen could have been gold (chrome isn't necessary, but these days the Club is using more and more chrome). And the wings could have been green. Not to mention the Club's penchant for elaborate paint apps. If they wanted to make a homage to the Transmetal, there was very little in their way to have stopped them from doing so.primalxconvoy wrote:@Sabrblade

The current theory is that these (or at least the red one) are Waruder mechs operated by pilots made from the Legends Chop Shop mold, with the red one based specifically on the deco of the Diaclone Warudaros figure.MaverickPrime wrote:Huh, these look nice! I wonder what the red one is homaging

Also note that these four are all missing their robot heads.
Looks like those who keep asking for more Diaclone-based CHUGs might be getting much more than they wished for this year.

Too bad the robot arms don't really hide in wasp mode, though. Looks good head on, sure, but turn that swarm 90 degrees and, well...

All four of them are without their robot mode heads, suggesting a head remold for each of them.Rated X wrote:Such a shame they didnt retool the head and make him Venom. We got the other three, and it would be nice to finally finish the set with Venom.
Plus, I thought you said you were compelled to get all Diaclone CHUGs.

That was my immediate thought and I think it's being over-thought by others. Is the execution good? Nope, but these may not be final decos if they're random leaks, and that seemed like the obvious inspiration.
Or these are some crazy (cool, too) lunchtime specials gone wild!
Posted by Sabrblade on May 19th, 2015 @ 10:13pm CDT
It's just, why would they make so faithfully accurate homages to two other Transmetal mold decos that are much more obscure, and yet do so unfaithful a homage to the Transmetal mold deco that many more people remember far more prominently? It just seems like it would be such a disservice to the original Transmetal deco if that's what it was supposed to homage.ScottyP wrote:Inaction wrote:I thought that was more of a deco based on the first Transmetal Wasp from '98?

Now, on the other hand, compare the deco of the red Waspinator to that of Diaclone Warudaros:

Red overall body
Black on the upper torso surrounding dark blue details
Gray/silver shoulders, hands, and lower torso
Striped thighs (Waspinator's thighs are formed by his striped bug abdomen)
Teal/blue forearms
Dark blue translucent plastic
Sure seems like a much stronger match, especially with the prospect of the blue Chop Shop being a Waruder pilot:

Not necessarily, I just drew a rather funny analog between Waspinator and a certain Animatronic from Five Nights at Freddy's 2 called Mangle today (page is not for the weak of heart, be warned):
- Waspinator is blown to bits and rebuilt on a regular basis, Mangle gets torn apart by kids and reassembled as part of his/her gimmick
- They're both pink and white, while the original incarnations had more realistic colors
- Disputed genders for obvious reasons

In no way does it serve as a theory for the inspiration, just a funny coincidence at best.

Left: based on Fox Kids Transmetal Waspinator.

Wazzpinator be good guy for once?
2nd from left: based on canceled Universe 2003 Halloween Horrorcon

Wazzpinator can't say boo to kidzz, Wazzpinator getzz no candy!
2nd from the right: deco origin unknown, but I've personally nicknamed it "Mangle".
Right: Seemingly based on Diaclone Warudaros, aka Convertors Sicolonoid, aka Kronoform Wargon

An ant, mosquito and scorpion form this?

The Fox kids repaint of TM waspy could proxy as a TM Buzzsaw. Buzzsaw was just a yellow an purple repaint of the original waspinator. However the fox kids TM color scheme and mapping was used on the club's SG Beast Wars Waspinator. So effectively it's one big cyclical system of waspinator, repaints and repurposing there of.

Actually "him" is a gender neutral pronoun, it's meaning has been misconstrued over who knows how long. It's similar to "moot" even though people think it means finality, it actually means debatable.

*giggles* It's best to consider me gender-neutral, so both "his" and "hers" are fine, whatever you feel like. Less headaches that way.

Back to the Waspies, here's an image of the Shatted Glass BW Predacons, with a yellow Waspinator:

Posted by Sabrblade on May 26th, 2015 @ 9:40am CDT
It looks a LOT like her Combiner Hunters deco:

Though, if that is what this is meant to be, then it can't be a BotCon figure since BotCon doesn't do toys for things to come in future non-BotCon/non-TCC fiction.
Posted by MartianSpyGirl1996 on May 26th, 2015 @ 9:45am CDT
That may not be completely accurate, as people are guessing the Club will do a Nexus Prime from a CW combiner in the future, but due to Hasbro's rules it would have to be used in mass fiction (so IDW).
That's pure speculation, however.
As for Arcee, probably not a BotCon figure, but I can't see this getting a retail release either... maybe she'll come in a 3-pack with the other two fembots repainted for SDCC?

True true. Either way, GIMME TEN
