This reissue is coming next month and can be preordered at most online retailers, for about $170, except for those that only carry Japanese products, since this is not a Japanese release.
Enjoy the new images!

Also, something I never noticed about the figure's packaging until now is a name discrepency between the Latin script and the Katakana. While the Latin script writes his name as "Destron Laserwave", the specific Katakana characters that correlate with his name write it instead as just "Laserwave". The word "Destron" is included, but not as a part of his name. It is included separately from his name in the usual placement that simply denotes a MP's faction. Therefore, while the Latin script might have had Trademark issues in using just "Laserwave", the Katakana evidently did not.

Only Soundwave, Starscream, Skywarp, Optimus Prime and Autobot Spike.

That's Takara or Hb problem right? And since this is an Asian release, no problem with this TM non issues.

The packaging is the same Takara packaging as the original release. The name difference between the Katakana and Latin script is just something I only just now noticed.fenrir72 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Did Shockwave ever wield Megatron in gun mode? I don't remember his doing so.

I'm really surprised no 3rd party has offered a better-fitting solution to achieve the same goal. Still holding out hope we'll get a toy-accurate repaint of Shockwave at some point that does away with the grotesque lavender plastic and grey matte parts.

One of the things that drives me nuts about Takara-Tomy's Masterpiece Shockwave is the garbage light-pipe eye; while great in theory, 95% of the time the eye just looks like a dull lime green as the yellow mixes with purple and no light passes through the back. So I popped out the eye, and in keeping with the original G1 toy, just found a reflective metallic surface to replace it with. In my case I used the copper end of an old RCA cable. Works great, and now the eye looks great no matter the lighting conditions.

But the back of the head is now left open right? Why not paint over the clear plastic with something like chrome gold or something?

I was thinking and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a new Megatron and a new Grimlock (or an up-scaled MP-8) next year for the TFTM 30th Anniversary.
As prominent characters in the movie and the only pre-MP-10 figures left to re-do.
MP-1 & 4 → MP-10
MP-2 → MP-22
MP-3 → MP-11
MP-5 → X
MP-6 → MP-11SW
MP-7 → MP-11T
MP-8 → X
MP-9 (HR / RP) → MP-28 (HR)
HA!

MP-29 has the single best light-piping gimmick I've ever seen. It's enough to just put him in front of a white wall and the thing lights up.
Even when the room is in darkness and only the TV or computer screen is on, his eye glows..
Do you display him under a low shelf or wall cabinet? That would probably block the light.
Maybe Nonnef will come up with an opaque replacement piece.

True, the back of the head is open, but that doesn't bother me. I wanted a temporary fix in the event a toy-accurate repaint of the Shockwave mold is ever released, in which case i'd sell this version.

Yeah on my shelf, no light enters the eye. Even off the shelf, for me it almost always looks dull lime green (like in the photo) unless I deliberatelty hold him up to the light.

It wouldn't surprise me to see something like this from Takara, because they still haven't used the MP-29 mold for anything else than the original release.
Looks like he's carrying the Astro Magnum / Galactic Man gun.

The source is the official Transformers page over on Takara's website and the Takara Tomy Mall listing for the toy, but what we get are a series of stock images showing off this apparently 'anime accurate' redeco of the Shockwave figure we have already seen released previously. Most interestingly, we get a comparison shot between this figure and its predecessor, showing of the really quite drastic change in hue for the purple used - maybe the lavender refuters will be happier with this darker shade! Check them out below, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub!

However when in group shots standing next to the likes of sound wave and mp megs... I prefer the anime version.
I found shockwave to be perhaps one of the most disappointing figures I own, he's good and fits the part, however there are visible gaps in the gun mode they could've done better to fill, and there are too many screws and screw holes visible...

Maybe it's just a matter of shades: the original MP had its eye inside a smaller square hole, fitted into the hexagonal one.
I can't really be sure just by looking at these shots though, and the new MP variant of Megatron surely got its head retooled quite a bit.

I second that. Masterpiece Shockwave in Astro Magnum colors would be awesome, and would fit in better with anyone’s Diaclone Masterpiece figures too! As for this Shockwave, I am loving these colors! The definitive version of the mold by far. Today has been crazy with all of these Masterpiece figure reveals. BW Megatron, Diaclone Sunstreaker (Cordon Bleu), and the MP+ figures have seriously made my day.

Well now the price is explained, its a TTMall exclusive so Hasbro asia is gonna milk any non japan fan dry. What is pathetic about the way this is advertized by BBTS is that the toy they are selling is NOT limited in the least nor is it exclusive (since if it truly was they would not be able to sell it). It coming with the coing means this is not the TTMall release. This is always the case of course, but I just think its a very BS practice from online retailers.
In reality, the true exclusivity of this figure is that you can get it cheaper at TTMall an no where else.
Anyways, I feel a bit better to be honest, means I wont feel regret for buying the lighter purple version.

I'm good with the original, although color scheme wise, I like MP-29+ better. They say this is the "anime" version? He's the exact same color as G1 Shockwave.
While I'm not getting this one, I'm hoping the price increase isn't due to the Tariff situation...or oil prices going up again, or whatever other worldly nonsense is occurring.

It is expensive for one reason and one reason only. It is because it is not a wide release in Japan, only available at one retailer. So Hasbro Asia will be distributing it elsewhere instead and since they know you can't get the actual takara release, they are charging as much as they can for their release. Same situation as the seekers.

I'm not swallowing the "anime" tag they put on him. This is the G1 toy version. (Speaking of tags and labels, they even got Godfireconvoy's box wrong.....maybe the announcer was OD'd on sakeenergon or something)

The prices for the Seekers and to an extent the coneheads still really burns me... I could *maybe* argue for Screamer because he came with the coronation set. But by the time Thundercracker and Skywarp rolled out.... it was mostly because "they know you'd pay it".
I'm *really* curious to see what the price on BW Megs is going to be considering the price on Dinobot.

At least with the Coneheads there was some pretty extensive and unique retooling to be done for each of the three, justifying some of the higher asking price. Thundercracker and Skywarp were definitely overpriced for Starscream repaints with fewer accessories, though. At least those two weren't plagued with the quality control issues the Conheads suffered. Thrust is a floppy hot mess.
