Like it wasn't bad enough that a super-high speed connection (ADSL2+) is only available in capital cities, with most regional centres only having ADSL, but the cost is stupid. $20 a month with a 5gb limit? I do that in a week, more so if it's ratings season in the US.

And "mobile broadband" ... ugh. $50/month with a 1gb limit.

But then I suppose it won't be that bad, considering we won't be permitted to download any large files or even read the news if the government gets their way.

I'm moving to the West Indies.

nah, it's just a case of people to stupid to run a country being in charge (bush?)

in euroland an unlimited mobile connection is about 20 euros. fixed lines are basically per MB/Month (20 euro = 20 meg, 50 euro = 50 meg DL.

Try this.

Telstra, (which was basically the telecommunications arm of the government before it was privatised, which as such owns the phone lines in and out of the country and then "rents" them out to their competitors) who basically own the bandwidth that's rented out to their competitors, are the worst priced when it comes to the internet.

Our connection at work, 1.5mbps with a 10gb/month limit ... $90AU/month.

Suffice to say it's why we're told not to download large files and why the internet is monitored when there's about a dozen computers that can access it.

I heard about that blocked wiki page, and whilst I dont like the idea of anything on the internet being censored, I really cant fualt the ptb for wanting to censor something that is, afterall, borderline child pornography.

And seriously, I know Austrailia is a large country, with feck all population, and large distences between everybody, but wow, that's some crap net providing services!

Well, with so many disgusting, perverted, weird, obtrusive, intrusive, elusive, irrational, focal, foray, intervening, interdependent, corrupted, so on and so on, you can not blame those few good voices, (that are very few mind you) that have gone through life saying to themselves how will I make a difference in this world?
Can I? Will I? How shall I accomplish such a feat? It all boils down to the fact if you paid attention too that one teacher in school who tried reaching out in his or her own way to their students to go out there and do something amazing. It is never too late. As for that blocked page idk what it is and i do not want to look, but for it to be censored? there must be a good reason. Someone did a good thing.

Thing is, they're probably hiding behind the whole "we have to protect the children" thing, because it seems more and more parents can't be arsed to set up their own damn filters on their computers, or even understand how a computer works and to keep an eye on their kids when they're online.

Anyone who gives their kids a computer to use privately and then just leaves them to it is both asking for trouble and neglecting their duty as a parent, and expecting an ISP to do it for them is criminally lazy.

If they want to make a difference in this world, they can piss off to Africa and help the starving there, where its actually needed.

In my line of work I deal with both the kids and the parents weekly and sometimes on a daily basis. Sometimes I just wanna grab the parents by the collar and say "Hey dumb ass, quit enabling your kids!" When they do something wrong let em sit in jail and do their time don't come in here and say "Oh, my little Johnny would never do that."
"Lady, we've got him on tape."
"You guys are mistaken, it must be someone else."

I would agree there would be repeated failure, AND OH WOULD I BELT THEIR FACES, your kids are in jail? WHO'S FAULT IS THAT? not being on top of your kids leads to that, c'mon what friends do they have? what do they do on their free time? do you stimulate their brains with books and exploring musical capabilities(means exercising the left side of the brain where the critical thinking is) or were the children being stimulated with violent television programs, video games so on and so forth, all boils down to the fact if the parents instilled good moral values or not. Did the child not have a parent, they did not have a father figure, or a mother to yell at them every second of the day. I do not want propaganda. but if the parents will not do it, who will? Hey filters are on here all the time LOL. Oh for the children, oh the agony, will someone please think of the children.

Someone has to watch out for the kids whose parents have abandoned them because they are either too lazy(foster homes, sadly enough there are people out there just for the money and the kids are thrown into an even deeper world of hurt and depression), were not ready, or simply just do not care and that is sad to me because those kids a part of them, a piece of their own body. The Love of all will continue to diminish, with one another as time continues, as technology continues to rise and that is the truth. There was a study in Washington done with Ipods and cell phones, the more in tune the children were with THEIR OWN WORLD, they have lost the ability to interact with other people in real life, because of text messaging, hardly anyone calls, and the kids had lost some of their social skills and their confidence levels had dropped significantly to the point that they had lost some of their personal assurance on things. Finding a people person is now a little harder to find nowadays.

So I sympathize with those parents who are doing a great job, and I am sure the dudes and dude-ets with families here do take proper care of their children.

This was not directed at anyone, just a little upset on my behalf.
