Break down:
N_V : 282% damage
Darq: 89% damage
Gauntlet: 11% damage
Tantrum: He showed up and acted as a shield

Heals:
Gauntlet: 10% healed.

10% heals is better than 0%. Gauntlet might not like his black magic... He might be going back to battle blades.

Its not a problem with the Black Magic. It has to do with the damage dealt minus the damage mitigated. N_V's con had much higher End/Rnk than what your Str+Black Magic can do. Since Battle blades hit with more incredible damage strikes than the raw heavy Damage of Black Magic, it appears to do more frequent attacks. If you were to do it against a similar con of the same level or lower level (Say Phaze) you would see more consistent strikes with the BM.

No, it's because some idiot neutered Black Magic a few years back because it was THE weapon to have.

Of course said idiot didn't count on another weapon just taking it's place.

I'll take your word on it, but using Anshin (battle blade) and Warblade (Black Magic) as tests, I see more frequent hits with the BB on higher opponents and more frequent attacks on similar or lower opponents with Warblade's BM. Swapping the opponents around I end up with less frequent weapon attacks.

That and with the data that AZ helped me with in terms or realizing residual fade I made the assumption and put two and two together. At least I cross that off now and start with a new formula if that is the case.
