Another couple before I go have dinner. I've been playing with 2 ways of doing the pre-movie bots:
1) Grab their toy images from the galleries here. Most of the faction symbols are easy to photoshop out, but I ran into a problem with Bluestreak, since he has one on a window.
2) Try and find photos of their real-life alt-modes. So far I've been lucky, but I probably won't be able to find them all
Which would you prefer?

Either works, however as an example, I made jazz (yeah I know I screwed the dropshadows up lol) but I think I may swap him out for a normal Porsche as with the numbers and stripes etc, he's just too distinctive as Jazz to be usable as a generic car.

Your one works far better, even if its a more modern model.

Either will do go wild Remember we need robot modes, weapon and armor graphics also. Find guns and melee weapons. Find armor and stuff too.

Awesome. I agree with Psychout that some of the toy graphics look too distinctive. So I may end up using both ideas, trying to find the oldest possible cars.

And I'm not sure how to portray armor. Do you mean shields, or are you looking for tiles of different colors representing the different levels? (Iron, Duranium, Electum, etc.) Hmm... perhaps I could make some standard graphic of a robot torso/arms and give it the different colors/sheens inherent to each level of armor?

Edit: Oh, and to combat the distinctiveness problem, I'll be doing the other cassettes as well. I may also tweak the colors of the detail sections to get new color combos. ^_^

Looking back over, the Delorean and Supra shadows seem to be messed up, but they should be there *Head scratch*

I've been trying to do one of these, but I've never really worked with a photo program before. I downloaded GIMP, and it seems full-featured and all, but I just don't know how to do certain things. Maybe the terminology is different than PaintShopPro, and that's what's throwing me off from the Tutorial. The video tutorial is just too much for me to follow.

Roadblocks so far: How do I know what the background color is for Seibertron?

How do I "promote" a layer?

How do I set a layer to black and white?

When that image is placed under the car instead of a solid colour, this happens.

I have never used Gimp, but I know some users have you might want to go through the posts and get in touch with someone who has.

I updated the walkthrough with the hexcode for the HMW background color.

Aww, you beat me to the Dolorean! XD

And GL, that paint job looks great! I would think it'd be real time consuming to do that for every car though. Are you only doing it for a few?

Actually you need to fill in the rest of the background. You left some of it transparent. And, you forgot the drop shadows

Oh, neat idea! So there would be commander rank stripes and stuff? It would be way easier to make those custom as needed, since only some bots would get awards.

And I saw you added the hex for the proper background color Mogwai, but I thought it was just plain white. What's so special about the hex code version?

I did the drop shadows. I think they either a didn't show up well or i must have accidently had 'em organized in the wrong spot. As for filling in the background, i've gone back to try and do that, and it doesn't appear i'm able to with Gimp, if any other Gimp users know how to do this, let me know please.

Also, if i knew of a screen capture program like you used, Mogwai, i would be willing to make a vid tutorial of a Gimp walkthrough(provided i figure out the excess background stuff.)

Sorry to be picky Raph, but you've still missed the dropshadows. Its the problem I keep having, forgetting to move the layer above the off-white background befroe saving as an .png - Ive had to redo 2 or 3 of them for that now.

Its just subtly darker and is the difference between just the alt showing and it having a pale box around it. I got it wrong on a few occasions at the start too, at least its usually easy to go back and correct.

Yeah. I knew the drop shadow was still screwed up, i was testing to see if what i did worked with the white background after resizing.
