He was broadsided by a drunk driver and taken to the emergancy room. I know he has a couple of broken ribs and I think his knee is messed up too (the doctors are running tests on it today to see if he needs surgery). He was in a coma for a while afterwards and kept fading in and out of it. But now he's awake and we're all hoping he recovers quickly.

Ugh, I just looked at the date on this thread and realized my GRE is now officially "tomorrow" (the 26th).

I need a drink.

What;s GRE?

It's like the SAT but for getting into Grad School instead of Undergraduate University. I took it once before I applied last year and sucked it up on the math portion, so I'm retaking it before applying this year.

It has two writing sections - analyze an argument and construct an argument. I got a 5.5/6 last time (~90th Percentile).

A "verbal section" to assess your vocabulary with antonyms, analogies, sentence completion, etc. 30 questions in 30 minutes I got a 580/800 last time (~80th percentile - I can't believe most people do worse than me on that part).

And a Math section which reviews everything up through Algebra II and Statistics, w/out the use of a calculator. 28 questions in 45 minutes. I got a 630/800 (~50th percentile).

I spent the week before last studying for the verbal portion, and then the rest of the time practicing for the math. Hopefully a few months out of college won't have caused my writing abilities to atrophy. One upside to the thing is it's all on computer instead of paper - and I write a lot better on a computer.

If I bomb this thing tomorrow, I either have to spend $150 to take it again next month, or rethink my life.

Thanks Hawk

Didn't go so well. ETS decided to test some new math questions on me and make me take the Quant part twice, without telling me which one counted. Since stamina is a huge part of the GRE, needless to say, I didn't do so well on the second part, which I took after 2.5hrs of testing as opposed to a 1.25hrs. I don't know for certain which one counted (they don't tell you even afterwards), but given my low percentile score, I'd guess the second one. :?

So basically, I may have been randomly selected to take the test with a significant handicap. If they want to test crap like that, they need to pay people to pilot-test their exams, not randomly screw over a percentage of the people that take the test. The people taking it have way to much riding on the results to have ETS dick with them like that. :-x

Plus I shouldn't be paying them $150 to test their exams for them.

Sorry, I'm ranting. That's why I was gone all day yesterday and most of today. I was angry and depressed and that's not a good way to be on here. And that's just one of the crummy things that have happened in the past two days.

In the end I got a 1360 (650 Verbal/710 Quant); not bad, but I wanted a 1400 at least. As it was, I didn't even get my GRE average over 1300. :-(

Make sure you save the GRE by folowing all the instructions before you log out... When I took it 6 years ago, I got through the test and hit submit; However I evidentially missed a step because it deleted the test and they couldn't recover it. $150 clams down the hole...

You can't delete the test now if you want to. AFAIK, even if you quit out of the test w/out finishing it it still records it to your permanent record. :?
