Saw AOU last night. This is the first movie in this cinematic universe I actually really liked. Besides maybe the first Iron Man and second Captain America. Ultron is THE greatest villain of all time. Finally, a character in these movies I can actually get behind. He was perfect. I just wish he survived.

Overall, I disagree.

Too much trying to fit into one film. Too many characters, too many plotlines that are not actually resolved. What it really felt like was a giant set-up for Civil War and Infinity War.

I'm watching it with other friends tomorrow, and will have a chance to re-evaluate my stance. But on the first viewing, I really was not that impressed - especially after The Winter Soldier.

Fun fact! The facility at the end of the film is actually one the buildings at my university in Norwich! :D

See that's the thing: at this point,if you haven't seen the majority of the other films, I bet this would be a terrible movie. But Disney assumes (not incorrectly) that most people have seen them.

To me, the reasons you say you didn't care for it are what made it feel like an actual Marvel Miniseries Event. A lot going on, mostly able to stand on it's own without relying too much on past events outside of Avengers, and seeds for more to com. I know the other films have that', but this one really embraced IMO.

That is very true, and I am up to speed on all the MCU stuff, including Daredevil, Agent Carter, SHIELD and all the films. But it still felt a little meh that it cannot stand by itself as much as the first Avengers did.

To be honest, I was almost disappointed.

That said, there are some very very good parts to it!

The Hulk, again. Almost flipping the relationship that Banner has with the Other Guy compared to the previous film, and the open ending of his storyline. Good fights, good Ruffalo struggle, good team-mate relationship with Widow, and more.

The Twins worked really well, despite the extremely limited screen time. I am coming to admire both Olsen and Taylor-Johnson as actors, and they sold the sibling chemistry to me.

The background scenes for Cap and Widow - Thor's was really just a set-up. But Cap's made me whimper, and Widow's was a true Whedon squirmer.

The cameos. Yes, probably too many, and not really doing much with the plot, but I loved having pretty much everyone we've seen so far in the MCU - minus the SHIELD cast, Happy, Pepper and Jane - show up in the same film.

Ultron is an interesting one: I wasn't too keen on the character as a portrayal of the comics version, but it was an extremely amusing, twisted version of it, and Spader's take was really quite fun.

Although, I didn't like the opening. I wish it had started differently.

Like, instead of just being in the middle of their fight with Hydra, I wish it would have shown them going to the battle, having a briefing or something.
That reads like Sly after any of the Bayverse films. >:oP

I take offense at that statement. I'm offended.

And in any event, Sly sees no fault in the TF films, whereas I explicitly pointed out something I didn't like. And my defenses have reasons that Shadowman hasn't countered yet (other than my feelings towards the twins, but I won't go there ;) ). And also, I thoroughly enjoyed the twins in this one. Although Miss Olsen's accent seemed a bit goofy.

I love how he kind of emulated RDJ, as if Ultron was in fact Tony Stark Gone Wrong. He had that cocky, snarky, playful attitude. Really well done.

I just finished watching it, and I agree with this as well. He did really good. I liked the fight with Stark and Hulk, I just wish it was a bit longer. Also, my favorite moment of the whole film was when Vision picked up Mjolnir. To me that was unexpected and really made me smile. My least favorite part was how they left Banner and Widow's story kind of unfinished. Overall, it was a lot of fun. IMO, not as good as the 1st, but definitely fun.

I think their story continues into the next Hulk movie (if we get one) or Infinity War.

On second viewing, and while all my previous points still stand, I found it more enjoyable as a film.

I still think The Vision is terrifying in its simplicity.

That's why it was my favorite moment. They all argued whether Vision was good or bad, and that was the most clear-cut way of settling it. I loved the look on all their faces afterwards. I did miss 1 thing: Stark didn't play any AC/DC. :-(
