Woooooohoooo! YEAH!

Honestly he does make a valid point, Paramount are basically preventing a movie he made being released on all formats therefore restricting the level/choice of quality in which it can be seen by the home audience.

however it pleases me greatly that this new found integrity of his may prevent him from making another abysmal TF film (I say may because I wouldn't be surprised if he or they change their minds). I only wish he had as much respect for the subject matter of his movies as he has the quality/choice/number of formats they can be seen in.

Eh.. whatever. IMO, Bay is a hack. It will take more than TFMOVIE, for me to consider him a competent director. I certainly didn't go to see the TFMOVIE because he directed it. I would say I saw the movie inspite of him directing. I approached it with the same mind frame I would with any movie... let's see if it's any good.

I'm not a big fan of his choices of wordsm, either. I would think a professional in his situation and pubic standing, would avoid using the word "sucks." You wouldn't catch Spielberg prattling off such childish language. All the more reasoning why I consider him a hack. What a shallow, arrogant, whiner... sheesh...

TF2 will be just fine without him.

Who does he think he is ?!?!

Postby thefallen07 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:19 am

Like Micheal Bay has any pull with studio Execs, let alone Steven Speilberg.

I for one will not be missing that no talent punk. The guy did a good job on TF, but there are a ton of other directors that have twice the talent .

MB is a no-talent egomaniac that should be happy to have been given the fortunate opportunity to do the first TF.

TF 2 wil happen and it will be tons better than this one. Especially since Bay won't be doing the film.

Good Ridding Micheal Bay !!!!

He's probably just trying to rattle some cages. Bay likes to blow things out of proportion(no pun intended). Paramount will cut him a big fat cheque for the next movie and he'll be on board again...

Either way, it's an incredibly stupid thing to quit a multi-million dollar franchise over...

Oh well, Conceptron will be happy... for once.

You know, I am not into all of this high tech blu ray hd dvd stuff, all I know is I have an X-Box 360 to play DVD's on, so am I good or what?

As for Bay, come on. What is so bad? He's gonna give up possibly DOUBLE the profits of a (?) sequal just because it's gonna be released on a different format? Please.

HD DVD

Postby riogrande100 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:26 am

Looks like HD DVD covered the cost to make Tranformers to get exclusive rights!

Paramount and Dreamworks went HD DVD exclusive today. Then, a Hollywood news blog reported that the HD DVD camp paid Paramount $50 million and DreamWorks Animation $100 million for "promotional consideration." We asked Paramount and the HD DVD camp about this, and received a quick albeit vague reply: "Whenever we conduct co-marketing, production deals or other agreements, we never discuss business terms."

I take that as a confirmation of sorts—certainly it isn't a denial—but is it bad, or even out of the ordinary? Let's get some context. First, here's a fuller version of what transpired today:
When reporting the Paramount/DreamWorks Animation announcement, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily wrote this:

Note how there's no mention of the money Paramount (I'm told $50 million) and DreamWorks Animation (I'm told $100 million) is receiving for "promotional consideration" from the HD DVD side to continue with what is widely recognized as the losing high-def format.

We're sure Nikki's a good person and a fine reporter, but we needed to check on such a serious claim. We asked the HD DVD group, who relayed the request to Paramount, and heard back in the form of this reply:

The reason we made this decision is simple. After a year of fully experiencing and exploring both formats, we decided to exclusively support HD DVD because of the quality, value and potential the format offers. Beyond that, whenever we conduct co-marketing, production deals or other agreements, we never discuss business terms.

Like I said, there is no flat-out denial here, but there has not been a flat-out denial from anyone about these so-called "promotional" expenses. Poking around, I hear a lot of similar grumbles about Sony and Team Blu-ray, and how they might have swayed Target and Blockbuster with help of some little green friends, just like Universal's exclusive deal with HD DVD may be the result of some excellent "promoting." The only thing that's different here is that some actual numbers have wafted out of the smoke-filled backroom, but even those cannot be trusted 100%.

The essence of Finke's story, that this move will be profitable for Paramount and DreamWorks in the short term, can be trusted, however, as can be the general assumption that the Blu-ray camp is making it worthwhile to support its format, too. That's just business, right? [Deadline Hollywood Daily]

You're good to go. DVD player is all you need. HD is only for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray (techinally downloadable movies may also be available in High definition).

TF 2 is gonna suq if Bay doesnt direct it. this is the one thing that screws up sequels: when they don't get the original ppl from the first movie. please, Paramount, make TF on Blue-Ray so Mike will direct it, it'll just be better that way

Sometimes, but sometimes not. Jurrassic Park 3 wasn't directed by Spielberg and Superman II wasn't (completely) directed by Richard donner, and both turned out fine.

While I love this TransFormers movie, there were artistic issues that really bugged me. I think a different director will be a welcome change from this last film.

I mean... is Mike the ONLY director that can make an action movie?

And before someone points this out.. Yes, I KNOW that he has the military in his back pocket. But for a sequel, I think the military aspect can take a back seat and noone would notice.

well Jurassic Park 3 really was totally anal.

Bay has to make TF2... it would rly suck if the differences between TF1 & a possible TF2 was huge, the acting etc etc. Bay makes a difference.

The last thing i want, is to see TF movies becoming B-movies, due to some director punk f'ing up the sequels, while the first movie totally rocked.

I'm with Bay on this one. I bought a PS3 earlier this year and was waiting for the announcement it would be released on Blu-Ray only to hear the recent news.

Somebody should take a stand to stop companies taking money to give preferential treatment to one format and I applaud Bay for actually having the guts to stand up and say it's wrong.

Having someone else direct TF2, with or without Bay co-directing is a refreshing idea.

But denying consumers the freedom to choose their preferred format is way out of line.

The designs won't change because Bay directed the movie, not the art. IIRC the choice to avoid using mass shifting was made before Michael came along, possibly in the first few drafts of the script. The major change is going to be in directing style.

Someone should take a stand? That's rich. Sony is giving preferential treatment to IT'S own technology, isn't that somewhat skewed?

The only reason that Bay is standing up, as you so put it, is because it cuts into his royalties. By eliminating a format for the film, that means he can't reap of the sales of said format. The only thing motivating him is his desire to stay, as the cool kids say these days, "phat paid."

Pure and simple. It all boils down to the dollar.

Word.
