Wait so Bay wont direct TF2 because paramount wont out TF1 on Blue Ray? What a frakin Retard man. But this could be a good thing. Now we'll get to see if TF1 was good because it was an action movie directed by Bay or if it was because of the giant frakin robots. TF may end up like Star Wars. Look at Empire Strikes Back. Lucas didnt direct it and its one of the best Star War movies ever made.

I think that this is my first post in the movie forum, if not it's certainly my first in a long while. I don't generally like to get involved in a rolling debate where there are such diametricly opposed possitions and nobody is willing to change their points of view and this is how I tend to think of most fan debate over the movie.

Personally I didn't like the film. The novelization was actually better, making the best out of a poor story, but not by a lot. I have yet to see a Bay film that was actually worth my time. Now these are just my opinions and I'm not trying to get a rise out of anyone.

If Bay doesn't come back for TF2, and it is still very much 'if' at this point, my take would be that we would be more likely to get what I would consider a decent film.

Briefly what I would like to see:

Bryan Singer directing, he has a proven track record turning 'kids' franchises into intelligent and watchable movies.

Simon Furman script consulting, yes that's right not writing. He knows his stuff and a lot of his TF work over the years has had a cinematic feel but it probably wouldn't work for the majority of non hardcore fans that will make up the audience. Straczynski on the writing team would be a real treat for me personally but this would never happen anyway so I'm only adding it as an aside.

Don in an art supervisor role. Who wouldn't want this really?

A back to basics approach to the story that has our beloved robots fighting over energy and resources. This would provide a real reason to be on Earth rather than the convoluted script point of the Allspark and allow for mature and intelligent storytelling that is relevant to our own current geopolitical situation. Intelligent action movies are possible, despite their scarcity.

He denied us Welker, so Bay gets denied a Blu-Ray version of his precious film. Sounds fair to me.

Hmmm...is it just me, or does this seem like it could be a good thing? I mean, Paramount will make TF2...they would be foolish not to. And I'll grant you that while Michael Bay did a lot of good by his live-action movie, he also did a lot of things that went against fan interest (and made it appear that he did them b/c it's HIS movie). I think another director could take the groundwork laid by MB and make it flourish into something that all of us would enjoy much more than the first movie.

I don't look at Michael Bay not directing Transformers 2 as being a bad thing. There are many a competent director who could fill his shoes and possibly give us the Transformers movie we were hoping for. I mean, a lot of the fans enjoyed the movie, but many of even the fans who enjoyed it wanted something more from it, and quite frankly, Bay didn't deliver.

Reviewers said that it was quite good for a giant toy commercial based on an Eighties cartoon. I didn't want the entire fandom looked upon by outsiders as a bunch of toy nerds loyal to an Eighties cartoon, which is exactly what the movie made us look like. I wanted people to be able to watch it and say, "Wow, so that's what the appeal is!" not "Well, that's what I expected it to be."

I wanted this to be the definitive movie, like Spider-Man or Batman Begins, and instead Michael Bay gave us Armageddon, Independence Day, and Godzilla. Nothing but big successes that would be forgotten about and possibly even ridiculed not five years from now.

EDIT: Also, could it just be that Paramount is just waiting to see if Blue Ray catches on before they spend the money to release it in that format? Maybe they don't want to jump on it like everyone did for Laserdisc. The equipment is still pricey, so maybe they are just holding off until it's more affordable and more popular before investing in releasing the movie in the format.

Point is, we'll get our Blue Ray, it'll just be once the format becomes more accessible.

Actually, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Before the movie, I had all sorts of coworkers poking fun at me for collecting transformers, etc. Now, after them seeing the movie, they are spouting off "Optimus Prime" this and "Bumbleebee" that. The hard time I use to get has virtually stopped.

Whether or not Bay is completely responsible for the success of the movie, I don't know. I like to think the many people, actors, director, etc. contributed to a decent flick. This movie truly brought transformers mass market/media.

Regarding Blu-Ray, it is not so much the hardware cost for the player that's the issue, now. Costs are nearly identical. It's the cost to manufacture on Paramount's side. Further, Blu-Ray is still an unfinished spec. HD-DVD is finalized. Paramount know what to expect when creating for HD-DVD. Look at Batman Begins. This was released by Warner, a dual-format supporter, but could not and would not release a version for Blu-Ray (technical issues) because BD Java is still a work in progress.

I'm sure some backroom deals are involved, too, but like it's not happening in Sony's camp? yeah, right...

Leave! Take your intelligent and well thoughtout ideas elsewhere! :)

Actually I would agree entirely...except maybe for the director, although I really respect Bryan Singer. Hopefully we can find someone with a passion for the material and if that is Bryan Singer, awesome! Someone who really loves Transformers who could take it to the next level.

I'm not sure what to think of all of this. Either way, TF2 will definitely be a different movie from what we got this time. Whether or not that will be a positive or a negative...is all up in the air.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of this format sh*t. It's ridiculous and things were fine as is. Cashing in on stupidity is disgusting and the companies should be ashamed of themselves.

This will all blow over and they will release it on blu ray. I have seen some of the most crappy movies on blu ray. Transformers was a great movie so why would they be stupid enough to not put it out on blu ray disc. Bay will be back, Because with out him Transformers 2 will suck.

Much as I like the movie you have to admit Bay can't deliver much of a story.

I was hoping he'd co-direct with Spielberg but if Bay isn't in it the only thing we might worry about is the fighting scenes. Which I'll have to admit, that while awesome, seemed to have been pulled off another movie.

...Wait. Why do I like this movie again?

Thank god that Micheal Gay won't directed the second movie. And I don't think that Paramount wouldn't be so stupid not bring a second movie out.

HOORAY!
Time for all of the movie fanboys who couldn't see Bay's lust for cash to take their feet out of their mouths.

"Oh no, Transformers 2 might be different/better than Transformers 1!!!!!!!
Now I can't piss on other peoples negative opinion of this wonderful cinematic masterpiece and these revolutionary designs!!!!!!!"

Don't be afraid of change, right guys?

Paramount's being a cheap like this though. They didn't even include the score in the official album.

That really true maybe we're all wrong and those guys in Paramount are some bunch of assholes and they say them selves no we don't like gain more money with a second movie why we should have more money.
It's really true that it was a completely rip off that the Original score doesn't release immeadiatly, now we can hope again.
I think the hole commercial system in the movie branche goes wrong.
Spider-Man 3 hasn't the original score this time but the soundtrack kick ass. Déjà vu doesn't has even an Soundtrack... :-x :-x :-x

Who cares about a good soundtrack to a crappy movie (spiderman 3 and transformers both)
If transformers movie would have been good, I wouldn't have cared if the soundtrack was done by Styx and the title song was Mr Roboto

Even though the feel of the direction of this next film might be different, we're going to have to accept the idea that the design has been established now and it probably not going to change much just like in X3 and the various Harry Potter movies. Paramount and Hasbro are still running the show and aren't going to go back to the drawing board for all of the established characters. But it's be nice to see more of them and some good new characters. And hopefully, there won't be so much bad humor and shakey camera work.

Don't get me wrong though, I did like this first movie for what it was and thought MB did a decent job. It could have been much, much worse.
