If I were heavy into G2, I wouldn't open that Bruticus, either. He looks so much better in the package.
$60 PE Bruticus + $110 MBC Onslaught doesn't seem like an awful deal for me personally. It's less than half what I paid for FP's M3, and for a suitably poseable Bruticus, I can't complain.
What I can't understand is why you two have all those other versions of the mold! Takara's shiny-ness besides.

Same here. I got takara and G2. Fruit and SDCC versions blow. Wish they would throw in a set of takara shoes with this set.

Why that version? because it's on sale and is the cheapest. If TFC ever makes their own take I can see myself replacing this, so there's little use in getting the best version. I was really torn on whether I wanted it at all because I'm still happy with FP's add on set, but I think the added height pushed me over the edge on it. Just not enough to go for the best version.

That's exactly why I jumped on the Platinum Edition on Black Friday. I knew I'd be having the same deliberations you're having down the line.

The Platinum edition was available for a long, long time, but I had one more complication on that front - Grimlock. I already bought the standard Grimmy, not knowing that the Platinum one was coming out. And I just don't like that mould enough to want to double dip. I could still have bought it from BBTS for the price it was at Toys R Us (after taxes and shipping and all), but with two figures from the set being redundant it seemed like a bad buy. Just everything about the moulds seemed to edge out the platinum set in terms of what I wanted VS what I already had (and was fine with).
I'm sure the fruticus colours will grow on me. MP Greenscream's colours did. I've stared at him so long now that his colours look natural, especially with the crown add-on set.

For $60 shipped, Grimlock was never a factor for me - I supposed I was getting a great deal at $12 per deluxe.

Well, the pictures they're showing of the set on Fruticus looks really good to me. The grey Onslaught really serves to tone down the loudness of all the colours.

I'm still hoping my TRU will discount that set again, it has lots of them, and they aren't moving.
I'm not terribly interested to buy the whole thing for over $200, but if I can get it for under that, the platinum color version interests me.

(opened is OK, to be used for customs)

in a couple days ill probably pull the trigger. like i said, i dont want to discard my onslaughts altogether, and if microblaze wanted to take out the competition theyd have announced four versions from the get-go. or at least said they plan on making other versions.

If you want to get Boosticus sets, go right ahead, but I'm not sure I understand your aversion to replacing Onslaught. That guy is a chump.

Indeed! Upon learning this Onslaught figure's size and specs (after mistaking it for an upgrade to the original Onslaught figure
) I knew I had to have him. He looks a hell of a lot more like his in-game model than ever before. I decided to buy him so I could display him leading the Combaticons, more than because I wanted to improve the combined mode. The PE/SDCC parts were just icing on the cake for me.

what you say is true. but if youre replacing one, why not replace all? its not like FOC bruticus fails only because of onslaught. to make microblaze work you have to throw one figure aside, and pull apart two others. whereas boosticus utilizes all the original figures.
dont get me wrong, i love the look of microblaze... but when i weigh out everything i think i lean towards boosticus. in fact i just made up my mind...

Your "if you replace one, why not replace them all" logic is dangerously close to X's "the figure is too good and makes the others look like crap in comparison" argument. (It doesn't make much sense.)
Boosticus utilizing all the original figures isn't a plus in my book. You may have to take apart a couple figures and parts-form with the Microblaze set, but Boosticus' panoply of parts is the same problem at the end of the day. Sure, the gestalt looks better with than without the Boosticus upgrade, but Bruticus still appears woefully disproportioned, flawed, and awkward. Not so with MBC.
I dunno - go with Boosticus if you think it's actually better, but my logic processors just don't understand folks who acknowledge Microblaze's product as superior, yet still go with Boosticus. Meh.

well... when youre right youre right...
ill admit my logic is flawed. maybe its just because boosticus is available right now. and the price of both sets i need cost the same as one MBC, which matches neither of them.
but i would argue that bruticus with boosticus doesnt look disproportionate.

Okey dokey. I obviously disagree, but if that's the worse that happens, we're in good shape

However, concept art and game footage gave us this intimidating, bulky war machine that did not have spindly-looking appendages. And I tend to subscribe to needing the main/torso figure being larger than the limbs so the combined mode looks proportionate.
So, I feel that there's a solution for most people by having a choice of either. Would love to see the Frankenstein combination of this Onslaught and Boosticus add-on for limbs that some people are going on about.
