MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

^^ Shadow Weaver looks like she was drawn by Don Bluth.

Meanwhile, Kapow have got this for sale:

Masters Of The Universe Eternia Minis Wave 2 Full Case of 18 - £107.82 to £69.95

Now I don't know how anyone else feels on the subject, but I thought this was a good deal. Until I read this line...

The case features 18 blind boxed figures

If this had been a complete set of 18 minis on sale. That would have been fine. But I loathe blind boxes. Spending £70 and getting potentially half (or more) of that set being duplicates would really aggravate me.

Blind bags aren't that bad. I'd have to look more into those but you probably get 2-3 full sets per box of say 6 figures with one or more being replaced as a variant/chase. Always better to go halves with some one on a case and fight to the death over the chase or just sell on the duplicates.

Speaking of blind, Amazon UK has some blind listings. I noticed one myself for a figure/playset at £20 when searching for origins stuff but Toynewsi is saying one of the listings is for Megaconstrux snake mountain!
I never picked up Megaconstrux Grayskull which replicated the old toy in brick form, however the prototype for megaconstrux snake mountain seems to replicate Classics Snake Mountain. I dont want it to be good but unfortunately it will be awesome :(

https://toynewsi.com/241-42640

Fingers crossed for an Origins version soon.

I feel like if they were going to do more playsets they would have done them by now unfortunately. Seems like the focus is more for vehicles. I'm honestly surprised they haven't done the Talon Fighter yet. Considering how many vehicles they've done with bits of ground meant to expand Castle Grayskull included it's weird that they didn't do the OG one with Point Dread.

No sooner as I bought series Orco he is now £3 at smyths along with sorceress. Origins jitsu is £10 and the real kicker is origins stridor at £15.not sure if it's worth picking up another incase they never do the evil version but compared to classics price it's a why not.

Sadly Kevin Smith is still being paid. More Revelations on the way.

Meanwhile the speed at which Revelations figures crashed and burned price wise seems to have stopped Smyths from stocking MOTU in general - or it could be Mattel pulling stores orders of Origins to give one american retailer Sun Man exclusivity window...or literally anthing else. Sad days for my toy shopping.

Picked up another Stridor just incase Night Stalker never gets made. If it does, Kane might just get a red and black horsey.

Collectors fair today and I ended up buying some figures that oddly had been customised and sold by a friend in the first place.

Skeletor does look a bit noticeable with the armor hacked away to be able to have his arms in a resting position, it's not as noticeable on the others though and some it works really well. I'm still not sure on new adventures twelve episodes in but hey, think it kind of loses the plot by not sticking to one.

I won't feel bad about customising skeletors eyes to be toon accurate tho :)

I liked Revelations, but that's probably because I didn't grow up with the cartoon, just the toys so I don't care the slightest bit about it being a continuation or not, bring on more! The only figures that I've seen on shelves long enough to go on sale are Battle Cat and the deluxe sets, the regular figures sell out in days around here.

Wasn't Sun Man a set to special pre-order date rather than timed exclusive? I remember Mattel making a big deal about Sun Man's big roll out at all the major retailers on a specific date. Thankfully BBTS didn't cancel my pre-order.

Incidentally I've never even seen series Orko in stores and assumed he was a big seller, I'm surprised you were able to get him on clearance.

If they had maybe sold it/not overblown any connection to the original more like Netflix She-ra did then it might have come across better. I'd only have watched it with out Kevin Smiths involvement anyway. Not a bad thing their is more of them if it keeps the merchandise and franchise current.

The figures dropped drastically from to half price here within moths and were at discounts before half pricve and continued below half price. We don't tend to get the deluxes on shelves (or any at all now) other than Skelegod. The exception being a toy retailer has Merman instock yet not the rest of the wave. Import stores and online retail is the only place to get them at the mo.

yep, but most places took down their preorders for Sunmans entire wave with Target then only listing Sunman. Online retialers held the Wave preorders already taken and then put preorders back up for the wave some time after sunman had dropped. Our biggest toy retailer Smyths doesnt do pre-orders but had the wave listed/in their database, pulled the listings and never relisted them & are now deep discounting most MOTU (hence Orco) wiht no retial space for them with Buzz Lightyear replacing them.

One thing I'm more aprreciative of with new adventures is each figure being it's own mold. Same with series and I think this lady will fitt in with them pretty well as a masterverse figure

I'm giving up on spelling her name tho, famale mosquito is pretty fitting with only tthe females biting for bloood. Would have liked a blood chest gimmick but she still looks cool.

Hopefully Kevin Smith just got confused as he doesnt seem to know how a sequel or series numeration works :P CGI Series confirmed for an actual third season. If snakemen was second season I'm guessing third will be horde.

Looking at the prices on new adventures classics Quakke and that's a big nope. Might class my evil mutants as finished with a Slush Head seeing as they never did the full range anyways. Depends howmuch screen time the female mutant gets.

another conmpany naming a motu inspired toy line lords of power was never going to be a thing, surprised they even tried. Fortunately the rename and sadly deviation from the Mark Taylor designs in some of the figures to avoid further problems has left them with this...

Photos out of Leech and snout spoutin packaging are out and looking great. Purchasing two snout spouts makes sense, purchasing a second leech to have him stuck on a window like Garfield for an eternity also makes sense.

Also the upcoming origins wave out in malaysia the 200x heman and skeletor look really good in their packaging but I still think I'm going to pass just to get duplicates of stuff I want multiples of. I'm in for at least two king randor because I need a Jerry the king to go with my wwe.

IMG_20220519_092958.jpg

Speaking of which fakor Cena looks as smug as can be :) Roddys heads a bit of a let down and could have turned up the smugness, still really glad of the BA heman and skeletor having rotating chests. The battle damage plates were fine for classics but really don't work on origins. As for Chyna, means my Figure in Illinois goes to a better place (mainly to be submerged in Bath water and dismembered by a six year old).

The pricing for the Classics line on the secondary market is the reason I chose to stick with just the Space Mutants and no one else from NA.
Crita, becomes quite a big deal by the tail end of the show.

Looks like she will be a must then, weirdly it's one of the few figures my friend didnt customise when he is all about cloth capes and letting them move their arms around.

Mantennas packaging sneak peek artwork...snakemen. Would be nice if the snake face card was a reversed situation -but thne again Mattels art dept has probably already done it that way :)

Ohh I like the detail on Mantenna's face sculpt. Almost a Predator-type mouth. Which is not how I remember him...

Image

I will say, I don't know what they were thinking with Crita's hard plastic cape? Weirdly enough she has full articulation without it.

In total, there were four main Space Mutants (and Disk of Doom Skeletor) that didn't make it into the Classics line: Hoove, BH, Staghorn and Lizorr. At a guess, I'd say it is likely because each would have required either a new mold or extensive retooling. It is a shame, as the Classics line really did the futuristic designs of NA justice. In spite of the buck reuse throughout.

Mantenna is probably my all time favorite MOTU toy. I even dressed up as him for Halloween in 1985! I was really disappointed at how goofy they made him in PoP cartoon though... The new Origins toy looks amazing. I'm sorely tempted to get this one, but alas, I must resist.

Gotta say, as much as the Transformers line could improve on distribution at times, the distribution for MOTU origins and MOTU CG Netflix toyline is utter garbage at brick and mortar retail. I get that americans can rely on BBTS, congrats on that, but I don't have that luxury in Canada. I can only rely on retail and it is abysmal. The main characters of MOTU were in the first 2 waves of Origins and I never got those. Unlike with general audience TF lines, like RID and Cyberverse, Mattel has not rereleased main characters in subsequent waves. So no Manefaces, or Man at Arms or Teela or Trap Jaw or Beast Man for me. I know that was a whole issue in the US too but at least there was a second run through BBTS ( I think). So that was off on the wrong foot.
But after that, the distribution is still hap hazard. I thought I could get Beast man with the LOP version in the later wave, but that was skipped in my stores too. It's like I get every second wave. We got those deluxe sets in drones though, along with the playsets and vehicles and cats. Seriously, for the first year of MOTU origins, all we had in Canada was Battlecat. And no He Man. What a fail.

So yeah, glad I am not collecting the origins line religiously, or else I would be PISSED!

What I did hope to collect though was the new Netflix line for kids. I figured it being just for kids, there could be a better chance at distribution (lower price point and all that). BUT NO. For some reason, the wave system is really messed up with there being different versions of the same wave. So wave 1 had skeletor and He Man and Man at Arms OR Trap Jaw. Some places got just the wave with trap jaw, and some just the wave with man at arms. We are seeing it again with the recent wave of Man E Faces and Ram M'am, where some also come with prince adam and some also come with the yellow clear plastic he man.

And the wave with Orco and Evil Lynn was blink and you'll miss it with stores never getting any. And we are talking Canada wide. That wave never appeared on Amazon.ca or at Toysrus, just in a few select Walmarts.

This is all just freaken ridiculous.

It's crap when distribution is bad :( with Smyths no longer stocking the lines I'm going to be dependant on amazon UK by the looks of things. On the brightside at least teela, Trapjaw (green or Kronis,) and man at arms (eternian palace guard) have other releases and much like transformers most of the figures gets a repaint - even if the reuse might be just as hard or harder to get.

It's even worse when entire releases are store exclusives that never make it across the border or the pond like the masters of wee (and looking to be origins based wwe superstars too) but I think a lot of it is devotion to collecting something. My masters of wwe is just missing three pricey figures now all considering a line that wasn't available here. But I'm not sure a kids line like the Netflix toys should need devotion just to get them (or vast price descrepencies $8 figures at £16).

Really not a fan of the repaints, they can't replace me not getting the original just like a Nenesis Prime wouldn't work for me if I couldn't get Optimus Prime.

If Mattel needs releases to be unique to oneanother, why not just rerelease the early molds in filmation colours and headsculpts.

Speaking of bad distribution, I had to import my Origin He-Man and Skeletor from BBTS. Then some months later, my local Toys R Us ONLY had He-Man and Skeletor on the pegs.

Also, the Ram-Man and Clamp-Champ scourge is far from over around here.

Not much of a repaint with the Teela & Zoar set (admittedly it would be a pain to scrape the green paint off green goddess) or with Eternian guard Man at Arms being toy accurate with out the mustache with extra bits as a bonus -Sharpie not included.

They might do filmation eventually, Origins pretty much interupted and cancelled Super7s TV filmation range so it depends if enough time has passed to make it worth revisiting over getting out different characters.
