MP Rodimus Proto Pics (And some other stuff too)

Going off DM's helpful little scale guide, I estimated Rodimus Prime mode to be about a head and a half shorter than MP01. I'm happy with that.

Re: MP Rodimus Proto Pics (And some other stuff too)
This is all kinds of awesome.
I respect Fansproject immensely for everything they've done but for me Protector is irrelevant due to this fantastic figure.
He'll be a bit big for classics but I don't care. He's the perfect size in my opinion - not as big as Masterpiece Optimus (too big, heavy) and looks easy to Transform Like Masterpiece Grimlock was (and the perfect G1 tribute).
I don't like those strange black legs but I'll get my friend to repaint those in the same pinky red colour that the rest of him is.
Put up those pre-orders soon please!!!

Actually, Hot Rod/Rodimus had the darker greyish/black legs in the 86 Movie and Cartoon. So the toy is actually more show accurate than the G1 toy.
Also, most of the online retailers now have preorders up for this figure.

It is worthy of note that the scale image posted on the previous page by Dead Metal shows Rodimus Prime in Hot Rod mode (the image alongside the G1 Rodimus Prime toy)-- his legs aren't fully extended as they appear in later images of the Rodimus Prime mode.
Therefore I, redoing the comparison I did earlier using classics Hot Rod (who measures in at approximately half of MP Hot Rod's height), I guestimate MP Rodimus Prime to actually measure in at MP-01's height, more or less. This makes me quite excited.
But I'd still take it with a big pinch of salt, until we have a better comparison image.

Re: MP Rodimus Proto Pics (And some other stuff too)
Those are good points about the legs you guys made.
I actually just prefer the G1 toy's legs, dunno but think the black looks a bit out of place with the rest of him being so colourful.
I'll display him as Hot Rod because he was one of my favourites.
I know that BBTS etc have pre-orders up but I live here in Japan and the pre-orders aren't up for him yet. I hope he's available at Toys R'Us Japan because they'll probably have him at the best price.

It's really hard to tell the difference between the Hot Rod and Rodimus bot modes aside from the face. He's obviously taller, but it looks like the extension is in the ankles?
I'm still getting both this and Protector. MP Rodimus is an MP and worthy centerpiece of the collection. Protector will take his rightful place with Classics.

He's not that tall. Here's a comparison I put together based on the images we have. I took the picture of G1 Rodimus and MP Grimlock myself (trying to get the angle right).

That's all well and good, but personally I'd take the comparison of 3 dimensional figures in front of me over a comparison of two similar pictures.

I think that once someone has this wondrous figure in their collection they should post pic of it and either G1 Roddy or MP Grimmy. Then we can all have a true sense of scale. or even a "mug shot" style photo would be nice, with MP Roddy against a ruler.

Re: MP Rodimus Proto Pics (And some other stuff too)
I fail to see how this somehow negates the need for Protector. When Classics prime came out, did we say, "There is no need for that. We already have Masterpiece Prime."? When Masterpiece Starscream was first released, did we say, "There is no need for that. We already have classics Starscream."?
I think this Roddy will hurt the initial sale of Protector, but I think most of us will try to get both.

Me too, the only reason Protector isn't preordered yet is I haven't seen it on any online stores yet. I would prefer bbts since I didn't have to pay straight away of course
2010 is proving expensive. So many great new releases. 2011 is going to start with a bang if MP Rodimus Prime is the first release of the year.

Watch the first of my youtube series, Friends Transform.

Considering school, I'm sadly gonna hafta hold on any new TF purchases unless they be in the $20 or less price range. But I so want a MP Roddy.

Oh man... this toy... is amazing. I only have one problem... When is it going to hit shelves in North America, and furthermore, I would love to know the price. I'm almost broke now, so I know it'll definitely take me a few extra grass-cuttings to save up for this baby. Still, haha, I'm gonna feel horrible buying it one day, but Hotrod is just too cool. (plus I like the fact that he's a little more red-ish instead of pink)

I wouldn't put too much stock in that yet. It makes sense that they wouldn't include the trailer, but isn't it too early in the game to be hearing these things? Somehow I can't see Hasbro making up a completely new accessory either.

Thats why they kept the hot rod mode a secret. It's just MP hot rod, which with a couple of twists can make a Rodimus, and the trailer is more a sheel that covers up 90% of hot rods car mode, just the back wheel arches are on show. If they were less bothered about accuracy they could of used hot rods car mode as the front of the cab and literally have it docked in the trailer as it is meant to. If they showed us hot rod first, it wouldnt of lloked so amzing, as we would see how easily they have actualy done this. This way, we have been fooled to think they have done something amazing.

this proves that the hot rod car mode goes in front first leaving the back exposed, the exhaust pipes rotate round rvealing the wheel more.

If Hasbro just adds a Targetmaster and nixes the trailer I'll be sooooo pissed off. Why do that? Nix the trailer if you must, but give the full release everything!
Honestly, it's just like Grimlock's crown.
Anyhow, I really like MP Hot Rod so far. The leg articulation is something to worry about, but this seems like the best iteration of the Hot Rod character to date. I'm not the biggest Roddy fan (IMHO it was a step down for the character), but I love that it can turn into him.

Nope, at this stage the grey shots are the prototypes of the final figure. Size accurate. I'm hoping he'll be as tall as Optimus Prime
