who knows, maybe the toys will look nothing like the cartoon, just like gen 1!! Admittedly its not quite equivalent as gen 1 toys came before the cartoon (hence megatrons infamous (but by default completely understandable)'nothing like the cartoon' look). If the toys do have a ben 10 type chunky bright look then they could be way more fun than the rather dull movie toys, and they are a bit dull, be honest. I have bought jazz/barricade/speed dial/camera so i do like some of the movie toys. (actually the real gear are totally differentiated from the core movie toys as far as im concerned. very cool.)

Starscreams bad comedy wrote:Is it just me or does it seem that cartoon here in the states have regressed? I mean back when I was a kid in the 80's we had stuff like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, MASK, Robotech, Voltron, Star Blazers, He-Man, etc etc. and while these show had their animation problems they were still a lot more realistic/complex than what we got these days. I turn on cartoon network, hell any station for that matter showing cartoons, and all I see are shows that feature simplistic drawings, bright colors, child like characters, or some kind of animal creature. Where is the complexity to the animation? is it really that hard to draw a decently proportioned human or robot character? Why are kids these days getting flooded with all this overly simple stuff?

And never mind the stories to these shows. Seems like all these shows have no connecting stories or plots. Its nothing but stand alone episodes involving cookie cutter characters with poor/simple animation. Are kids these days somehow dumber to the point that they cant follow a continuous story over a few episodes? Are we asking too much of kids to focus on something for 30 min, or maybe everyone really does have ADD.

:?

I agree with you 100% on this. I'm already starting to believe that some of these studios just flat out don't care anymore and that they don't want to spend the money on artist and animators.

I disagree with people saying that this art style is like X-Men evolutions and even Clone Wars. Those cartoons had better body proportions than the Prime drawing we got. I do not think that they are in the same league.

This style is more like Dexter's lab, Fairly odd parents and Powerpuff Girls.

So:

Optimus!, commander and the leader
Bumblebee, he is the joy and the laughter
Ironhide, he's the toughest fighter
Autobots save the day...
Fighting 'cons, trying to save the world
Here they come just in time, the Powerpuff Bots
Fighting crime, trying to save the world
Here they come just in time, the Powerpuff Bots
Powerpuff!!

Not to mention that Prime is the youngest Autobot (or one of the youngest).

Hopefully that's a rumour but who knows.

As to all those who feel RiD, Armada, Energon and Cybertron are miles better: I personally don't think so.

This is just another shade of crap for me (assuming it turns out to be as bad as everyone thinks it is.)

The humour that was incorporated in the Japanese Transformer shows just didn't work with me very much like the design of this show isn't working with almost everyone here.

One last final thought (this may have been mentioned before, but I'm not going through 40 odd pages to find out) the TFs in this show transform via looney toons tazmanian devil whirl wind. In short, we get one mode, a bluring tornado of sorts and the alt mode is the result.

I also hope that last part is a rumour.... :?

total crap.

the reason american animation is so simple is that you have less people doing more drawings to keep costs down because american labor is so expensive. Like Guitars you can buy a fender stratocaster made in mexico and its like $299.99 buy the one made in the US and it's $1,300.00. With the same parts. The Only deferance is one is assembled here, and the other assembled in Mexico.

Cartoons drawn by japanese animatiors are more complex and have more labor put into them because japanese animators work for peanuts. There is a team of them working on it instead of like three guys doing the whole thing like here. The downside there is that they think different than english speaking countries, so to americans the shows always seem a little wierd or off because something gets lost in the translation. Armada, Energon, Ext... all had this problem. They were made for both markets at the same time. you watch them and your like "huh?" this is goofy.

The old G1 cartoon worked the best because it was written for the american public, by american writers, and then animated in Japan.

Why have they done this? How can anyone think this is a good idea? I'm tired if our (America's) cheap television standards. First it started with reality television, and now we've gotten so lazy we can't even make a proper cartoon! I thought the 3D models in Energon and Cybertron were bad compared to Beast Wars and Beast Machines, but this just takes the cake.

I just want the old poopy style I'm used to. There was nothing wrong with it other than the constant color mistakes.

Lets hope they take a cue from the new TMNT cartoon and have animation that is not all ANIME looking. Also No Computer Animation Please.

Is there no more talent out there that can draw a good cartoon anymore ? Almost every cartoon on tv these days looks F**ked up like the artist was smoking crack or dropping acid.. And then we wonder why the kids of today are so screwed up in the mind , i mean look at what we keep trowing at them for entertainment.. Its pretty bad when PBS cartoons start looking better then normal tv cartoons man... Thank god for Anime , at least i can pop in gundam or full metal panic and flush this 3rd grade wanna be transformer image out of my mind.. Its sickening, and sad looking , really is ..........

I could go on and on why I didn't like Beast Machines I just point out some of the things that I remember I disliked. Just as you can go on and on, on how much you liked it.

I believe it was to much of a drastic change. Maybe that's why it didn't work that much to me. Plus the atmosphere of the series was dark and depressing I would watch it and it would bored the heck out of me. Nothing with being all dark and depressing but it wasn't MADMAX dark and depressing. It was more like Hawkthorne Heights-spoiled-emo-whinners-depress thing going on.

The visuals didn't bother me but it didn't meant I like them.

Nightscream is by far in my opinion one of the worst Transformers designs ever. Especially with that lame uncool kind of emo flop of hair in his face. The fact that his attitude was whinning most of the time didn't help.

However I do have to mention I love how Cheetor was being this mature calm leader type character. Plus I enjoyed Jetstorm until they turn him into Silverbolt.

The Rhinox Tankor thing I thought it was so out of character. Shocking true, but that didn't meant it was good or well explained.

I was dissapointed because It could have been much better. They had all the tools instead the writer had no knowledge and did exactly what he wanted without caring about what came before unlike Ditillo or Forward. I guess that's why I never forget the name of Bob Skir is being 8 years and I still dislike his work on Transformers.

Let's face it the toys didn't sell like hot fresh cupcakes either. Sad, some of those vehicons toys are cool I got a few myself.

Something I like to point out, I have read some would have lot Transtech to come out and I look at the movie designs and Draxhall's and well is not much different. As an art student myself I saw how similar they look. Is funny because I read a bunch of people against the movie designs but they would love that Transtech would come out. Go figure.

Well put. I'll even grant that the Rhinox change was a big leap. Rhinox is like the Hal Jordan of Transformers, which I guess would make Nightscream Kyle Rayner. I could go along with the changes because the dark, brooding tone worked for me, and I liked Nightscream for the most part. The hair was a bad move and the leg wings didn't really make sense, a point the toy designers corrected.

Good point about Transtech. Incidentally, what the TF:A Optimus scan that started all this hub-bub most reminds me in the present line is Classics Optimus. Wish they'd kept his head.

I just read 42 pages. It took me about an hour and a half. *Cackles like a madman*

As for the one little image, I gotta say this looks like it's completely for kids. And I don't mean like eight, nine and ten. I'm talking like three and four. It looks like the type of cartoon you sit them in front of so they'll sit down and shut up. Giant 22 minute PSA's that are going to be going to be POS's.

But like I said, that's from one little image. We'll see.

This doesn't look like a SD Transformers show to me. The Robot Heroes figures that are out now: those are what I consider SD Transformers.

From this one image, I feel like G1 Optimus Prime is being molded as a Headmaster and that Death's Head is Prime's "Master component".

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.
