I agree with you that there's entirely too much flipping out going on all across the internet because of this one image. The only thing that's going to tell me whether the upcoming show is good or bad is the pilot episode. Even then, Beast Wars' pilot wasn't that great and look how it turned out.

OK so the new design is jarring since it's hitting us cold. But like others have said, this has an air of Samurai Jack/Clone Wars to it - and frankly, those are two of the most well written, beautifully animated series ever concieved in the West. I have my fingers crossed that Gendy Tarkovsky is at the helm - everything he touches turns to gold.

Ah hullo! Hauzit gaun? :p I'll have a wee look in there too, thanks!
To be honest, i was never a BW fan until last year i bought a DVD on impulse in Woolworths. It was one of the Transmetal ones with Optimal Situation and 'Deep Metal' on it. I absolutely loved it and got the first series right away...and i didn't like it at all! Weird...
But off topic: Back to how this one image is completely teh gayzorz:

if you just accept everything as cool then crap like this will keep rolling out. My older brother said that it happened with season three and that head masters stuff the ideas were bad and the animation got really bad and transformers lost a huge mass appeal. even if you see the animated movie with the fan commentary the one guy says when galvatron stepped on the crown he realized that the franchise was moving in a direction that didnt appeal to him and my bro said the same thing...if you mess with the formula to much you lose your fans and its even harder to get non fans into it as well.. the live action movie is one thing that has huge mass appeal but the series and toy line they walk a different path I really think they should have reconsidered the style they chose....that style burns out extremely fast...G1 had its problems with animation but look its still around they sell a lot dvds and vcds here in the philippines its iconic...I was really looking forward to a nice new cartoon but i just cant watch that style it just smacks of laziness and bad design to me.

I agree totally. I'll watch it and give it a shot. I always do with all Transformers series. If is boring or mediocre I don't watch it, period.
Happened with Armada. Energon on the other hand I don't know why but I enjoyed it especially the episode Megatron comes back from the dead and kick all sorts of metal ass. Plus I saw it in japanese same with Galaxy Force.

I was kind of expecting something like this, but wasn't quite sure exactly where it was going to head. I'm actually okay with the weird proportions, given the style it's going for I think it kind of fits. It's the strange shape of the arm that throws me off, with the super-large shoulders and tiny elbows, topped off with the flared 'gloves'. I have a feeling it may work better in context with the animation (live in hope and all).
I'll be interested to see what the've done with the other characters.

what do you want to bet this turns out to be decent? Just because it looks completely different -- even extremely odd proportion-wise -- shall we dismiss? Remember, this is targeted to little kids. If each episode is a standalone good vs. evil tale, how is that bad for the little ones? I predict this will be a winner.

Exactly what I was saying.
And I meant every word I said about Anime crap. RID, Armada, Energon, and Cybertron (Galaxy Force) were all crap. crap. I respect your right to disagree, but I have hated every single series and they never tried to reach above a five year old's entertainment level.
So that's why I'm probably more open to this change than many others here. It's shockingly different but if it is the same style as Samurai Jack or Clone Wars we will probably get a more grown up show. I'll take a great story over pretty animatics (which, frankly, the recent shows have not had either of) any day.

ya know, when I heard that they were going to make a new Transformers cartoon, I was expecting new designs, possibly akin to the movie, and a new story, but no, i'm stuck with this. I don't see how in the world they'll be able to make a transforming figure out of this version of OP. it gets me thinking something terrible, what if we get non-transforming action figures for this series? that would just be a nightmare

Gimme back my anime Transformers plz. >_>;
EDIT: And in hindsight I can't help but laugh in the general direction of all those folks who constantly glitched and moaned for a TF series made in a Western country because they couldn't stand the Japanese series'... Well, you guys got what you wanted. Happy now?
took the words right outta my mouth. unless the storyline (being that its BW writers supposedly **SUPPOSEDLY**) is fantastic, i dont expect to be seeing this ridiculous rendition of TF's.

Okay, i said myself that i didn't like the image that much....
I didn't accept it as cool, what i'm saying is...how can people judge an entire series based on ONE character design...and ONE picture of that design? Absolutely madness!
SPARE ME THIS MOCKERY OF JUSTICE!
Also, the 'proportions' are off because Prime is in a 'running towards the camera' gesture, meaning of course certain parts are out of sync. Perhaps it's all in proportion! Who knows? Anyone? Probably not.

I will give the series a chance. I really will.
I am not a fan of the cartoon style they are going for however.

Quite frankly, I turned those shows on and saw how FUGLY they were and never watched them again. How can you watch something and get into the story when you can't even get past the innitial appearence? I mean seriously, would you ever approach a women you were not attracted to so you could as her out on a date? I mean If it doesn't appeal to your eye at first, how are you supposed to ever get into the deep stuff?
Samurai Jack and Clone Wars were pure garbage. I couldn't sit through five minutes of that ugly pre-school papar miche animation style. And so what if they had great stories. How are you ever supposed to SEE the story if the look doesn't appeal enough to you that you stick around long enough to see the plot?
But I agree with the guy who said at this point after seeing the Bayformers which sucked the life and enthusiasm I had for Transformers these day right out from under me, that I simply just don't care as much. Really, 2 years ago I might have been writing plea letters to Hasbro to change their direction and would have been infuriated about this. But now after all the crap in the last year, I just looked at it and rolled my eyes. I'm begginning to expect nothing but pure garbage from Hasbro and it's all because of the Appologists within this very fandom that talk themselves into being OK with it and feel they need to just accept everything thrown at them because someone Stamps the Transformers name on it.
As for the discussion of children today being dumb of not having attention spans, It's all because of what is being put in front of them. For any of you who have the Season 2 part 1 DVD, watch the bonus interview with Michael McConnohie on the final disk. He makes some VERY good comments about this very subject and how todays animation talks DOWN to its audiencee and how these days studios don't even try to take the effort to put content in their stories.
That's the beauty of G1 and even Beast Wars. It never talked down to it's audiences. They always had some deeper toen in the plot of the story that made a kid want to learn about it. You had religoun and politics and so much more in a kids show. I made you think deeper about what was going on. And I can't tell you how many new words I learned just from watching the Transformers alone.
Exactly

I agree with everything you said except for the "Bayformers" part. I think the movie is actually what Transformers needs right now. I got people in their 30s, 40s and 50s telling me how they want to see this movie. The hardcore fans really need to get over the differences in design.

Yeah, I can't see myself coming around to this... The movie designs were a radical departure from what came before, but they work as giant ***ing robots from another planet, and once I got my hands on the protoforms I started really digging the level of detail involved. They bent over backwards to find a style that was different but still worked on the level they needed.
This? This just doesn't work. They slapped on the clone wars aesthetic without thinking, and if they toys look like this, they probably won't sell anywhere near as well as the movie toys do. Get your head back in the game, people.
