New Weapons and Alts
New Weapons and Alts

The bad news...
Seems the weapons rollout has caused more stress than joy. I am going to hold off on releasing the new weapons system until the next full blown version of HMW is completed. At that point the game will be reset anyway so the pain of the transition will be minimal if at all.
The good news...
Because of these conversations, it appears that the alt rotator is the most important thing to most players right now. I am going to focus on your alt rotator and get it done.

Any reason why it can't be done without reseting everyones exp distribution? I know that there will be configuration issues, but at least then it will be players choice to reset or not, and with the alt rotator working they won't be kept from any alts. Though I suppose all of them could be made availible as well.

I think the main problem is no matter what idea is decided upon for the roll out of the new weapons, someone whinges bitterly.
Still, I was looking foward to the new challenge.

Because some players didn't want to reset their XP. There was no way to make a majority happy.Silverbolt wrote:Pity, having a weapons system that actually worked would have been really nice.

It's going to be better for everyone to have the alt rotator first. And it is going to be better for everyone to release the weapons during the reset when we are all starting fresh anyway.

Just a suggestion if you could find some way to limit the number of certain weapons their team could carry that would help as well. Say instead of 12 BB's they could only have 3. It would bring some variety to the game and space out the weaponary a little more. Something that forced people to be armed should be in there as well.
Just reminds me of when the enduring/avoiders were around at the top of the food chain and used unnaturally weak weapons to do next to no damage to each other to rack up the avoids.

That's a good suggestion. I'm actually coding a limit on the amount of weapons you can hold at one time so the "hoarding" issues will be avoided.Silverbolt wrote:Fair enough, I'm patient enough to wait for it. Been doing just fine so far without any of the uber weapons.

While we are at it, let's make this thread a weapons/alts suggestion thread....

Yup, you can never make everyone happy. I have to confess I'm bitterly disappointed that a small amount of people whining over those stupid, tiny little icons is going to cost us a new weapons system and an amazing amount of fun. I think some players serious fail to have their priorities straight.
That said, you've still got my support, OS, so other than registering my objection now I'll pretty much drop it.

Thanks Deadboy, but it was alot more than a small amount of people. I'd say MOST people that PMed me or chatted in the threads were concerned about it.Deadboy wrote::sad:

This didn't cost you the weapons system, it just placed it at a different release time.

Cause there might become a mistaken factor made to that whereas the limit was really low or something.

Plans were changed because of discussions both here in HMW GD and in the Support Staff forum. OS had an idea, but we, the collective community of HMW and our mass of feedback gave him a whole bunch of new ideas and things have headed in another direction.
So the real reason for the plan changing isn't because of some "oh he doesn't know what he's doing" or some other anti-OS reason, it's because OS is LISTENING to US and taking OUR thoughts and opinions on board.
Dunno about anyone else but I find that highly refreshing. A game built by the community for the community, not a game built by 2 or 3 people with the community expected to accept what they give us

How many, if any, additional weapons will be
able to be stored in a teams weapons cache?

I don't think we really noted any alternative methods.

It wasn't a total reset, it was the necessity of resetting characters to change their stats to try out new configurations, and the worry about being able to afford new weapons and new armour and the risk of losing rare alt modes that got people riled up. Plus the issue of how to handle alts that were given out as tournament prizes and the like.

and i managed to live with a lego tank with 4skill for a year and a half becuase i wouldn't reset it and the mechafangs used to pwn all, but after DT the NR-100% accurate glitch got fixed, i don't remember a backlash then, we'd just got some alts then too, and nobody complained then about those weapons being fixed. except sharpwing, who complained that brawling was too good, and he was right.

Tammuz wrote:well to be fair, if the weapons where truely balanced why would you need to change weapon?
Because the plan was to remove all the current weapons from the database: equipped, stockpiled and for sale alike, and reimburse the purchase costs, then load an entirely new set of weapons into the database. So people would have to change weapons because some of the old ones wouldn't be as effective (BBs and Dols) and others wouldn't exist anymore. It wasn't just tweaking the stats behind the scenes. Some didn't care for being forced to repeatedly reset and having to buy new armour and weapons until they found something they liked, which is where the problems started AFAIK.
