One thing I will say against this movie is that Prime's death just kind of happened. Even though it was mentioned sporadically throughout the film, it had absolutely no gravitas or emotional impact. This is one area where a low-budget, low-profile 1986 animated film commisioned solely to sell toys beat a $200million live-action blockbuster for sure.

Coolyfett wrote:Its funny to read some of the post where people are FORCING themselves to like TF2, when it is not that great of a movie.

I can't speak for others but while it is certainly not that great of a movie, I definitely didn't force myself to like it. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.

Weapon: Dual Laser Cannon
I've seen it twice and I'm still not sure whether I like it or not. I certainly prefer it to the first one but I really dislike all the nameless, bots and cons with no personalities. Fewer robots with more character would have been better.

The robot designs are still dire. I don't want Transformers that look like insect/Terminator crosses. Both films remind me a bit of the Mission: Impossible films. You get the impression that the makers actually want to make a different film but put up with the francise just to sell a few more tickets.

Oh and Megatron subservient to someone else! No, just no! And Soundwave's voice! Frank even did the right voice, they just needed the effect to be added! WTF?

On the plus side it was nice to see Frank is still on form, voicing more than one character!

I think the film would have gotten a 3.5/5 if it had have been 45 minutes shorter, and a 4/5 if there had have been some element of good storytelling.

I'm not a Bay fan, but he did some excellent work here, the script writers were the ones who failed dismally.

Overall 2/5 from me, too long, and the last third really drags, and the Decepticons never feel like much of a threat, they are too 80's Saturday morning Super villain to be taken seriously. I mean come on, Fallen uses the Television networks to hunt for Sam...

I would not advise taking younger children to the film unless they are already crude potty mouths, there is plenty of lowbrow crass "humour" that was really unnecessary. However, there were plenty of good humorous slapstick moments too.

I've read not all but a few of the posts here and by the sounds of it, ROTF was EXACTLY like the first movie. I saw post after post of simular comments basically saying, little screen time and characterization for any of the Transformers. It sound like I'm going to hate this movie.

Now there seems to be one pluse side, alot of people said there were alot Drones used in the movie. Well I can live with little screen time if they're ment to be drones but if they're main characters like Jazz was, I can't accept them not getting screen time.

Can someone clear this up for me, is it just the drones or are all the characters getting little to no screen time?

If your name is Prime, then you get some decent screentime, and some great action sequences.

If you are a Bumblebee or twin you get some one liners.

If you are named anything else and are an autobot you will be lucky to get two lines, (and if you are a blue hybrid you are only a deus ex machina).

if you are a named Decepticon you might get a few lines.

If you are a Constructicon or "drone" (some larger ones are not what I would call drones, just un-altmoded) you get zip, nada nothing.

skids 2.0 wrote:What i liked
.Jetfire, i fell in love with the fella straight away, a Hero in his own right!
.Skids and Mudflap - I really think they were pulled of really well, and looked great.
.OP's Death, what a sad moment, then a joyous moment when he comes back and combines with Jetfire's corpse!
.Meg's New ALT Mode! A tank that then takes of and flies. I loved his new tank mode
.The CGI, truly breathtaking, sometime i actually forgot they weren't really, they really did look impressive.
.The start, much better than the 1st films cheesy, "Before time began, there was the CUBE"
.The end, I loved how they ended with another message from OP!
.Demolisher at the beginning, i loved him at the start tearing through that town!
.Devastator was fab!
.The destruction of the pyramid looked so realistic!
.Ravage was brilliant, i loved him so much what an interesting transformer.
.Seeing Scorponork again, even if he died suddenly, i liked his appearance.
.Frenzy's head, i loved this little homage to the old guy, i loved him in transformers 1 and i liked seeing him again!
.Wheelie in general, found his language HILARIOUS!

What i didn't like
.Blood, did anyone notice that when the Transformers got hit they bled RED blood? Wasn't it blue is the first film.
.Spitting, why did the Decepticons keep spitting when they talked!?
.To many bots, we had way to many bots, and many of whome weren't shown more than once. There was a blue bot that linked OP and Jetfire when they were combined, i don't remember this bot earlier in the film or appearing later.
.Demolisher, i thought he died at the beginning just after he said "The fallen will rise" then is part of devastator.

I could go on, but you are probably bored. None of my Negatives are really anything major, one possible plot hole. This is truly the most amazing film i have ever seen, i loved it so much! Thanks Mr Bay for the wonderful film!

I agree pretty much with everything. I wish the original bots from the first movie had more time in the film. I also was surprised that Soundwave's voice was from Inspector Gadget. I'm glad they left some things opened like Barricade and Soundwave surviving. Also, I think Devestator has people confused...there were both Constructioncs AND Devestator. Devestator being a sinlge robot made of other vehicles and the Constructicons being individual robots with the same alt mode as components of Devestator.

I've just arrived home from the screening, and I'm disappointed with the guys at ILM. Each constructicon was used freakin' twice, even Blackout, Barricade and Bonecrusher was resurrected to have two seconds screentime and die again...

Being that many are not actually allowed to dislike the film, I expect all positive reviews, it is the safe thing to do. Realistically though, the film wasn't all that great. Many of the experts dislike the film. I was a fan of the concept back in 2005, but then things really went down hill. It is sad that honesty must remain muffled for 'our great popcorn movie" People want very badly to reprogram the thoughts on individuals. Subject A likes TF2, Subject B does not, Subject C, D & G gang up on Subject B for not agreeing with them. I remember it happening in 2007, it also seems to be happening now. I know the real Transformer fans are disappointed, but ....s are right, there is nothing that can be done about this disaster.
There is no excuse for TF3 to not be done properly!!!

And yeah dont blame the Writers too much. Remember the writing was halted during the strike so they handed Mr. Bay a rough copy which he expanded. Hence why we have 2 Witwicky dogs humping eachother as well as Wheelie Humping legs, Devastator having balls and some charachters just plain getting forgotten about, reused multiple time or forced in when needed (Wheelie dissappears just like Barricade did, Blackout getting reused (we know its Grindor but the non web based fan wouldnt), and Jolt is mentioned only when needed leaving the entire cinema thinking 'wtf, who is he?')

The movie starts off two years after the events of the first film. You get to see the relationship that the, Autobots have formed with the humans in that time. From the start, the movie kicks it into high gear. The story is longer about, "a boy and his car". Rather it shifts now to show you what it can be like for both the Autobots and Sam and his family adapting to the changes that have occured in those two years.

I really don't want to spoil anything for anyone who has yet to see the film. A good friend of ours let us in last night at our local theater to watch it in a small group.

My only nitpick, and it's a minor one, is that the different types of bots were just thrown together. Not much is explained as far as the, Constructicons, Alice, or even Soundwave (The same goes for the new Autobots, although they do mention Prime's broadcast to the stars at the end of the first film). You can sit there and pick at the plot holes, but it is an action movie and a few things are left to speculation.

The fight scenes are fast paced and you get to see a grittier version of Prime and Bumblebee. They're not as forgiving as their G1 counterparts. But then again, this is war and the survival of their species as well as the humans.

Michael Bay movies tend to run a little long sometimes, but I look at that as a little break in between each intense action scene to give you a break. Some of the humor is goofy, but helps to give you a chuckle here and there. If you're looking for all out action, big bots fighting it out, and a big explosions... Michael Bay delivers making this movie bigger, badder, and crazier than the first.

Run time: 149 minutes

Um... the strike was durring the FIRST movie not the sequil and has nothing to do with why Bay wrote TF2. I belive it has more to do with the fact that the wrighters were working on the Star Trek movie at the same time and basically dumped TF2 on Bay so they could focus on Star Trek.

rodgfx wrote:It's a movie for selling toys and merchandising, that's all

The funny part about that statement is when Bay was first asked to Direct Transformers he didn't want to do it because he thought it was nothing more than a toy commercal. The wrighter's actully changed the original script to make it more appealing to Bay who hated the idea in the first place. If they were really TF fans like they claim to be they would of hired a different director insted of changeing TF so Bay would like it.

What an effing joke. I bought tickets at noon, got there an hour early and there was probably 15,000 people crammed into every hallway of each theater. I was so excited because I don't have to work tomorrow, but I guess the other 15,000 people don't have to either. Left the theater with a full refund. It's at least 100 degrees in every hallway and I'm not waiting in that for any movie. EFFING PEOPLE SUCK!!!!! I'll wait a few weeks. :-x

You people are really confused.

1. That isnt Blackout it is Grindor he just looks like Blackout

2. They are several seperate Constructicons - Mixmaster, Scrapper, Longhaul, Overload, Demolisher

3. They are 3 female autobots - Arcee, Chromia and Moonracer not Elita-1 they get shot but it isnt confirmed that they have meet the end sort of like how it seemed with Barricade in the 1st movie.

3. The Insecticon like robot that tortures same is called the Doctor

4. Soundwave is voice bye Frank Welker he is older now so he dosent sound like G1 anymore
people do age and there voices also change

5. The Twins - Mudflap and Skids combine into the Ice Cream Truck one is smart and the other is hyper

6. Sidways gets killed early in the movie bye Sideswipe he sliced right through him

7. Optimus does die but is brough back thanks to Jetfire's sacrifice he powerlinks also help of another little robot possibly wheelie

8. Megatron and Scream make a tactical retreat

9. The Fallen is the Ultimate Leader, Megatron is the Sub-Commander they got there logo from the Fallen he is the father of the Decipticons.

10. They are a total of 46 robots many are un named these are just cameo appearances such as with the 360, Nokiaformer and Steering Wheel in the original film.

11. Generation 1 refrences abound in this movie such as the tension between humans and the formers, the Sun Harverster and the Space Bride also the Nemesis all from Generation 1 and also Animated.

12. Devestator gets destroyed bye a Naval Ship's Rail Gun.

13. Two of the Females get shot in the Face but unkown if they died or not

14. The Matrix is in but just a short glimpse it is destroyed

Only Deaths are Devestator and Jet Fire and Sideways

The Nemesis is on Mars or the Moon

Micheal Bay will return for TF 3 he is just taking a short break from transformers thus making TF 3 a 2011 release date.

Well, I just saw it and

DAMN!!!

That movie was f**king awesome!!! So much better than the 1st! It was a lot more thrilling. The story went much faster, the action was a lot better, and it was even funnier.

The Twins were hilarious.

Prime vs. 3 Cons was amazing.

The Nemesis was not on the moon or Mars, but one of the moons of Saturn. That's why that planet was shown in the background.

Sam's mom high was fuuuunny! So was Wheelie.

This was much more action packed than the first, i don't even care about the random Decepticons. Ravage was great, and Bumblebee was a true badass in this one. Ravage also died.

Honestly, my only complaint, if you can call it that, was that Prime's resurrection and combining with jetfire was a bit hurried. But the subsequent ass-whoopin' Prime put on megatron and the Fallen more than made up for it.

Funniest line was "It's supposed to hurt, it's an asskicking!" said by one of the Twins.

Or "That's 'cause you're a pussy!" also said by one of the Twins.

All in all, 6 out of 5 stars, it will obliterate the Dark knight, and Coolyfett can kiss my ass.

We actually had to wait in line for 30 mins. even though we got there an hour early. Both showings were packed and sold out.

Anyway, here's me after the movie was over. I just had to have a pic with the poster:

Just got out of the movie and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Was it perfect? No, but still a hell of a lot of fun. Then again, I only have a house full of Transformer toys, I have all the G1 DVD's,a shelf for three of Transformers Comics, I even have Transformer Tattoos up and down my arm...but I'm not a True Fan or anything.

Also, for all you jagholes screaming racism and sterotypes against Skids and Mudflap, seriously, get over yourselves! If you think these two 'bots are offensive watch any Wayans Brothers movie EVER. Or better yet, go back and watch your G1 DVD's;

Jazz: Jive talkin' bot that likes to bust a move
Ironhide: Gun toating redneck with a southern accent

Hmmm...Looks like Transformers has been all racist and sterotypical for quite sometime. Pfft.

This movie is gonna get a lot of hate but it will still have a proud spot on my DVD shelf when it comes out. Gotta get to bed now...I have tickets for the 11:50 show later today. Hell, I'll probably put in Season 1 of G1 to fall asleep to. Again, not that I'm a "true fan" or anything.

I just watched the movie, very first showing made available mind you. And let me tell you the whole theatre was loving it! The movie is intense w/ a whole lot more fighting than the first one. I'm am very pleased w/ one particular aspect: Prime kicks tailpipe a lot more than in the first one and doesn't bother taking names. I saw the regular showing first time around so the next time I have to see the IMAX to see what isn't in the regular.
As for the movie being just a big ad to sell toys...well, I don't care. I'll buy the toys anyways (just not all of them). Seeing the movie did inspire me even more to get the toys since I had already made up my mind to get them.

Just got back from the midnight showing, and mang o mang. It was everything I could hope for in a movie featuring robots.
Sure Michael Bay isn't a favorite among critics, and if I wanted to watch some super well developed story with a deep message, I'd watch something else. But this is Transformers, not to say it can't have a deep story and whatnot, but for a movie about robots, it does its job in spades.

Some of the "humor" was a little much, maybe forced, but I found myself laughing at most of the jokes, even the ones by the twins. I actually found myself liking the twins, and was relieved to see Mudflap survive, and see him and his brother fight as a team. Regarding all the penis and balls jokes, some of it seemed a bit much, but I did enjoy the fact that Devesator had a pair of balls, makes perfect sense since Hightower had wrecking balls. It would've been nice to see some more of Jolt, and the Arcee bikes. I really liked the designs of the robot forms of the bikes and Demolisher. Its nice to see something other than a bipedal Transformer robot mode.

I've read some complaints about reused alt forms, how there are several Long Hauls, Demolishers, and even "Bone Crusher," but it makes sense, since having an Alt form is all about blending in, so why go out looking for something you can change into that's your size, when one of your comrades who's the same build as you already has one that works for him and can work for you. Even we have our own doppelgangers.

As for the fight sequences, ooooo wweeee!!! They were so amazing. Gone are the days of barely watchable Barricade vs Bumblebee fight type scenes. You could actually see who was hitting who, etc etc. And Optimus must have been training hard; the forest fight sequence was face melting, and gut wrenching. The final fight with the Fallen did seem a bit short, but you can't have every fight be a full 5 round, to the score card UFC title fight, some have to end in the first round. I loved seeing Megatron screaming for Starscream like a little Bee-otch, and when Optimus Prime ripped off the Fallen's face... "Give me your FACE!" Classic. And as far as the unnamed Cybertronian form Decepticons are concerned, it made sense to me. Sure its cool to look like you transformerd from another vehicle, but when you're being sent straight into the middle of an offensive push, whats the point of disguising yourself, its not like you can hide yourself after meteoring into the middle of the desert. Every war movie has countless, nameless soldiers who are killed off. This is no different.

All in all, it was what I had hoped for. An action packed mech movie that kept me laughing and saying "oh sh*t oh sh*t" to myself as the ... well, sh*t hit the fan. All in all, I give it a 5/5.

P.S. Wow, I wrote a lot more than I was intending to. Also, Soundwave doesn't transform, in case you're wondering as I had been, but he was done justice in that his form had purpose as an intelligence officer. It would have been cool to see him in robot form and kicking some ass, but seeing him in space was satisfying enough. He'd probably do better fighting in space anyways.
